Ho Hum food, $$$/4 pricewise, service ok prompt, décor fancy upscale metropolitan Had the salmon skin roll– good crispy salmon skin, bagel bro — OK, shrimp tempura roll — OK, Georgia crunch roll-we didn’t like the combo I guess, volcano roll — OK, calamari tempura roll — good, Scottish roll-OK, California roll — good, spicy tuna roll — good Overall everything is OK the palm was that it was extremely expensive for what it was. Spent $ 150 for all of the above plus green tea and no dessert. Can see why it closed. Thinking Upscale Décor at NewNew York Manhattan prices pretty much did it in All in all it was an OK sushi plus restaurant Would recommend sort of but definitely won’t be going back

This place served amazing food! Came by after work tonight, But they are now closed down. Seems like the location and lack of business did it. This location is no longer open. :(

This is a truly amazing restaurant! Daniel the owner took care of us at the bar and the experience was Over the Top! I’m really fussy w/my sushi and do a lot of research before trying a new place — especially when traveling. The Oyster Rockefeller was one of the best sushi dishes I’ve ever eaten! If you try this restaurant and do not order it, then you’ve just cheated yourself out of the best item on the menu. My home is northern CA where fresh seafood abounds daily. Daniel clearly buys and imports the freshest ingredients and it shows. This is a fantastic restaurant and I cannot wait to come back. Bravo!

This place repeatedly has very poor service later in the evening. Went in last night just shy of 9pm and bar tender told us to have a seat anywhere we would like. We sat in a booth and waited. My five minute rule had me leave after sitting in booth for 5 minutes without anyone even bringing us a menu. There was only one other table so it wasn’t like they were too busy. I’m giving up on this place.

One of my friends frequents here at least 3 times a week and she posts her food on Facebook. So when I was meeting her for lunch, it was no brainer that I had to experience Kickshaw. Kickshaw is located in the same shopping center as Campania which has kind of become the pseudo«Antico» of Alpharetta, that is before the second Antico location opened in the Avalons. Either way, it’s kind of a shopping center away from most businesses, so it probably doesn’t attract many people for that reason. I had the Volcano Roll and the Dyno-mite Roll. What you see is what you get. The food is THAT good from the pictures. The Volcano Roll is a baked roll so it takes a little bit longer for it to arrive to the table, but it’s worth it. The Dyno-mite roll was spicy just the way I like my food. This was a great deal too because rolls are ½ price for lunch during the week day. The restaurant décor is very dark, but clean and modern. It’s confusing because with a name like«Kickshaw» you kind of think of some Western Cowboy theme or something. Or that it’s called a Tavern or Grill? There’s some serious identity crisis going on with this restaurant and I think it kind of shows with the menu where you can still get kobe/wagyu beef sliders. And yet the website says they serve izakaya style. I hardly see how things are«fusion» on the menu despite how others call it that. Is it because there’s a beef slider? I really hope this restaurant does well because the chef/owner is kind, but it’s poorly located and suffers that identity crisis. The fish is fresh, the rolls are excellent, so it’s definitely a good choice if you’re in the Alpharetta area and wanting sushi.

The sushi«rolls» were just finger thick sushi, It was not a roll. The bim bop was not served with stoneware. The tuna in the salad was paper thin. For the price not a good value and not that good. The decoration and cleanliness is superb. They need to decide what they are.

Ok, understand my background… I live only 45 minutes from San Francisco. I ONLY frequent an establishment called«Live» sushi-San Francisco for a one single reason… it is the very best! While vacationing in Atlanta, Ga last week i had a hankering for some sushi. I felt bad at first for the chef/owner of this restaurant only because this establishment had to measure up to «Live» sushi SF. WOW… I am blown away at this fusion-asian-sushi restaurant. We sat at the sushi bar and had the chef/owner make us whatever he wanted. We enjoyed 6 courses of fresh, delectable gems of the sea… ALL perfectly prepared and presented(which is very important). The last course was the oyster Rockefeller. I reside in the land of fresh Pacific oysters… and would NEVER have order this menu item. I am so happy the chef added this in. I am blown away at the layers of flavor with this dish. You simply must go for the oyster Rockefeller. The next time we visit family in Georgia… Kickshaw will be our first lunch and/or dinner. So amazing. The service was amazing and I truly expected this lunch would run us $ 200…No way, way under $ 80 for this experience. Just go kick it up at the Kickshaw.

Never been to this type of «Fusion» restaurant. Love going to a place with such a diverse menu. They are definitely Asian inspired in most of the menu and the sushi bar, but you can avoid all of that and get a steak. Décor rocks, great staff, and David the GM is first class.

We originally found this establishment on Scoutmob(50% off your meal up to $ 20) so we decided to give it a try on a Wednesday evening. The restaurant was beautifully decorated but didn’t have many customers inside at all. We choose a booth on the left side of the restaurant and were immediately greeted by our server. He was quite knowledge on the menu and even recommended a roll for us to try which we ordered. We each got an appetizer before the main course, a house salad and miso soup. The salad had an amazing dressing that tasted like a creamy miso dressing. It was not too much and not too overwhelming, just perfect! The main entrée was the Chicken Pad Thai. It was delicious! The flavor was good but the quality of the white meat chicken had me wondering if it was really white meat. My only complaint was that it looked and tasted processed. The noodles and sauce were on point though. The dining area is well decorated and the bar area had TVs to watch sports in a nice environment as well. I’d definitely come back!

Ate here last night, very nice. Sat at bar, was professionally served by bartender/GM. Sushi and sashimi were excellent, fresh and beautifully presented. Chicken teriyaki appetizer was tasty. The edamame was fresh and steamed correctly but had no seasoning. Overall very good experience, will return.

Pretty good sushi. It was half-price on Tuesday. Had a spicy tuna roll. Also had the Bulgogi Bi Bim Bap. It was fine. Never had it before, so nothing to compare it to. Service was good. I’ll go there again.

Tasty sushi, nice Ahi Poke. The staff is lovely. Great for a date night, business lunch or dinner, or a group. Cool swanky interior out weighs the strip mall location.

Stumbled upon this gem by way of a Groupon, and I’m so glad that we did! The Hawaiian poke appetizer was the perfect combination of fresh sushi and a delicious spicy kick. Honestly, it is one of my favorite dishes ever! The pad Thai small plate was anything but small and had an authentic taste. The rib eye had great flavor; however, the accompanying vegetables lacked pizazz. Lastly, the fried cheesecake was so wonderful. As stuffed as we were, there was not a bite of cheesecake left over. What impressed us most was the attentive waiter and GM coming over to talk to us about the restaurant and its history. He recommended trying the She Crab soup next time. I have already recommended this place to family and friends and I figured I should pass this along to Unilocalers as well.

Ordered the California tempura roll and Georgia crunch roll. I’m very picky when it comes to sushi and this is by far the best sushi I’ve ever had. Sushis are also half off on Mondays-Thursdays! Thank you Groupon for bringing us here! The chef and the workers are really nice. Will definitely come back!

Saw this place in Groupon. The place is so beautiful, fancy and just right. Coming from someone that lives in NYC, the sushi was excellent. Fresh and flavorful. The waitress and staff are very customer service oriented and joyful to interact with. I would recommend this place for a date,! They played live music. They didn’t make a fuss about combining groupon into two checks, which I found to be amazing guest service.

The food is good– really good, the atmosphere is nice, the staff is capable. But it all feels like a surprise. The front door says Kickshaw Japanese Tavern and Grill; after you look over the menu you will not be sure if you are at a Japanese, Korean or Thai restaurant. In hind sight, if I had to describe it, I would label the place an «American/Pan-Asian Bistro Sports and Sushi Bar». Roll with it. The two asians chefs(one sushi and the other behind the grill) are willing to work hard to deliver some good food. For lunch, I had the Sea Bass. The fish was fried and seasoned in something like a teriyaki sauce– lots of veggies and served over rice. It was good. Wifey had one of the rolls. These rolls are much longer than most. In fact, I’d say it was a roll and a half. She also got the sashimi bim bop and it too was very good and very fresh. It was served with a hot sauce you pour over the fish. It is a little pricey but not completely out of line with the rest of the area. I can see how people struggle with the menu but if you can get past trying to figure out where you are and just order something, I think you will be impressed. If I was the chef, to keep everyone happy, I’d add a chicken and steak teriyaki dish to your lunch menu– this will keep more domesticated diners happy. Check Groupon, this restaurant participates every now and then with a good offer. They are listed as: Kickshaw Japanese Style Tavern

Amazing she crab soup! Service was great and décor was very nice. Only item that was lacking was the burger. Other than that it would have gotten 5 stars.

Although we frequent nearby Campania and had seen that Kickshaw had recently opened, this was our first chance to try it. The décor is beautiful, great space with a sizable and well-tended sushi bar along one wall, and a central bar opposite the sushi bar and dividing the bar areas from additional seating. Even the bathrooms are pretty. The sushi menu(see pic) includes lots of cooked items and cream cheese, which was an immediate turn-off for me, but the sushi chef recommended the ahi carpaccio and it was really quite good. The Caesar salad is good and unusual because it includes teriyaki anchovies, of which I became an immediate fan. The house salad didn’t appeal with the honey mustard house dressing, but they happily replaced it with a Caesar, no worries. The mussels in green curry were very good(if small and few in number for the price) and the broth itself was very nicely prepared with little slivers of lemongrass. The staff were all very nice, especially Tyler(our waiter). The sushi chef even presented us with a little post-meal oyster treat, a very kind gesture. The only thing to add here is that the prices are fairly steep for what you get(see the pics of their menu and judge for yourself) so it’s good, but not necessarily a good value for the money. The prices are Cabernet prices, and we never mind paying for a fabulous meal, but the food & experience here(while very pleasant) simply doesn’t warrant Cabernet prices, especially when you consider that you just dropped $ 50(early day tomorrow, so no alcohol this time, either — that’s $ 50 just for some light snacks) and leave, well… hungry. Now I’m not a proponent of stuffing during any meal, but for $ 50 I feel I should leave with at least some sensation that I’ve eaten something. The conclusion? I’m happy they’re here, I hope they fare well. The food is good, but not fabulous. Their prices warrant much more than just good, so I may revisit, but I’m not likely to be a regular. 3.5 stars is exactly what I would have given if I could have, and the extra half star would have been for service and atmosphere and effort. As it is, though, I had to give 3 or 4, and I can’t in good conscience give 4 in light of cost compared to value, even given the nice environment & the A for effort.
