A nice place for a quick weekend lunch. A delicious roast beef sandwich with horseradish, a tender fried chicken wing, and an order of french fries will fuel you up for the rest of the day.

This place is always clean, the food is always hot and the employees are always polite. I only buy two things– either the cheese burger meal or the fried chicken dinner. The fixings bar is clean and well stocked with fresh toppings. They have the best fried chicken in the area and I like the thick cut fries.

Five stars for a fast food joint? Yes. What other place can you get a fantastic croissant sandwich meal with sliced potatoes for $ 4 and unlimited pancakes or unlimited biscuits and great for $ 2? They apparently just remodeled. The place is nice and clean. The staff is so friendly. John is fantastic… always helpful and provides better service than a lot of sit down restaurants in the area… not to name names. He sees what customers need before they even realize it. They do a great retiree business in the mornings mmm, and I think he’s the main reason why. I watched him run the register, wipe down trays when he had a second, bring food to customers and check in on them to make sure they had what they needed. He makes this place feel like your local diner. Roy Rogers needs to take care of this guy. If I had a restaurant, I’d be trying to hire him away. He’s a hard worker and treats customers like family. That being said, all the workers here have great customer service. Roy Rogers on south Route 1 and all the other restaurants in the area could learn from this place. They are all so cheerful, kind and helpful. Thought I was at Chick-Fil-A…but with pancakes and biscuits and gravy. Keep up the great work! Thanks for being here!

I’m so glad that they are still around. Food is always hot and delicious. My children and I love coming here for lunch or dinner. I haven’t had a chance to take pictures of the food because I am usually ready to eat it as soon as I get it. They have remolded recently and it looks great. Try the gold Rush chicken sandwich with your own fixins. The fried chicken bucket is so much better than other chicken places(not saying any names) and the fries are addicting. They have cherry coke!

I have been coming here off and on for many years. The options and food here are rustic, but in a good way. The burgers are large, juicy and fresh. The fries are a little on the bland side. The food is pretty good, and fresh. Their breakfasts are the only fast food option around that actually sells biscuits and sausage gravy, or chipped beef, and proportions are huge. The staff is very friendly. The décor looks like it has not been updated since the ‘80s. However, in a weird way it is all a part of the charm. It is a local fast food establishment that seems to cater to the locals and families. I will keep doing business here.

Ugh. It’s getting to be a death by a thousand cuts here at Roy’s. First they got rid of the nine Hershey’s ice creams and replaced them with four lousy Edy’s ice creams which taste like nothing. Not a big deal because I hardly get the stuff, but then they started«refurbishing» the place: replacing the comfy two-person booths with awkward, tall, uncomfortable three-person tables and stools. Whatever, I can still get a four-person booth. They got rid of another couple of two-person booths and replaced it with a fountain soda dispenser, I guess to speed things along in food prep, but I don’t drink soda. Worst part is that they how have a heat lamp terrarium to hold the fried food and biscuits, which defeats the purpose of having fresh fried chicken delivered hot. They’ve got a pre-made salad cooler for water and cold items, which I guess is fine if you eat salad. This refurbishing is also taking forever and they haven’t finished the mens room yet(you still have to share a ladies room). Whatever. But then I go to the fixins bar and they’ve stopped carrying Texas Pete Hot Sauce? Why? Would it kill them to have some packets of hot sauce? So long as the fried chicken and roast beef haven’t changed, I’ll keep coming here, but definitely not as often. I might end up hitting the Fort Belvoir shop at this rate.

Today I ordered the grilled chicken sandwich which I have been ordering for years. This sandwich always came plain since they have the«Fixins Bar». I always requested ranch dip for the sandwich and always received it. Recently guacamole, bacon & cheese were added, of course, with a price increase. None of these toppings appeal to me so I order without. So basically costing me more but getting nothing more. I was told today that ranch dip would be 35 cents. Seriously? The manager said«everyone» charges extra for sauce. Okay… name one??? This place gets worse every time i go there. Prices keep going up, portions are shrinking. 5 stars up until about 2 years ago. Would get 0 now if I could choose 0. Hey Roy… when you run a promotion list an ending date or at least say«we reserve the right to end this promotion at any time». I suppose, as a customer I should just know when it’s over… Washington Capitals score in the 1st period promo is over for anyone that was wondering. No mention anywhere that it’s over, it’s still listed on the Capitals website, and the no expiration date coupon is still available for printing. Roy’s manager blamed the Capitals for it. I’m sure the Capitals didn’t just run this promotion without approval of Roy’s. Roy… did you not check the details of your own promotion? It’s the Capitals promotion AND your promotion. Don’t pass the buck.

It’s good fast food! The double cheese burger is delicious and the fries are always hot and crispy. The restaurant itself could probably use a little updating. The seat cushions have seen better days and the restrooms are rough.

As others have said, this is a fast food joint but it definitely fills a niche. When you do need fast food, this is a good place to go. I don’t eat at most big chain fast food places but I do eat here. I wouldn’t eat here all the time but in a pinch, sure. I don’t eat at McD’s or Hardee’s, etc, but I do still eat here from time to time. Yes, I know that Hardee’s owns Roy’s but I have eaten at both and Roy’s is way better. Roy’s also has its own menu that is very different than Hardee’s. It is a local institution and it’s true that it very much has its own nostalgic vibe. The people who said that there are a lot of elderly/retired people here are correct. There’s definitely a crowd of old people who seem like they will keep coming here until they are wheeled out in their coffins. They are here because it is decent and affordable and it does have a taste of yesteryear. I’d say it is a slice of Americana — benign, wholesome Americana. It harkens back to a time that existed before the 24 hr news cycle.(There are no TVs there). Now onto the food, I did say that I eat here when I need something to hit the spot on a time crunch but it is definitely still fast food. It’s better than a lot of fast food places in my opinion. It has an interesting menu with a Western/American theme. But it’s still fast food. It’s not what I consider to be a proper meal. It’s not the healthiest thing in the world and it doesn’t serve the best food in town. It serves its purpose though and I still think it is worth going to. It’s just not something that I’d want to make a staple of my diet. I haven’t had the roast beef in a while but I should. I remember liking it but it was a long time ago. The biscuits and gravy are good, they are in the guilty pleasure category. They are really cheap, served hot and very popular. I’ve liked the Gold Rush Chicken Sandwich and I do like the Spicy Chicken Sandwich. I did try the new Steak and Cheese recently but I was not impressed. The meat was dry and it just wasn’t that great. I think that I should try a Roast Beef again and see how that is. I’m not a fan of processed cheese/American cheese which is probably what I don’t like about some of their sandwiches. Their better sandwiches either don’t have it or douse the cheese in sauce. I will say that I really like their fries. It will sound weird but their iodized salt is really good too and tastes great on their fries. I definitely think this is a good place to patronize. I am happy that it is still in business and I hope it stays that way. It feels like a great part of the community, a very warm and welcoming place. It also has good service and provides good job opportunities as well as charity fundraisers as others have mentioned. The food is decent though won’t necessarily blow you away. I’m giving it a 3 but that isn’t a bad grade from me. Most major fast food places would get a 1 or 2 from me but this is a solid 3. As the Unilocal ranking says, this place is A-OK especially for the price.

Who doesn’t love Roy? I mean it is hard to hate on a singing cowboy and his tricky horse, but when it is all said and done this just your basic fast food burger joint. However, there a few things about this place that are rather nice. First, the horseradish sauce is pretty awesome, and even more awesome, it is self serve, so no need judge me as I slather it on my burger and fries. Secondly, if you’ve a mind to do so, you pretty much can camp out all day; look closely, and you will see several of the old time regulars holding court all day long. Finally, this store seems to work with a few charities which is very cool. All in all, I guess I’d give this chuck wagon a 3.5, Partner.

Its a fast food joint what more can be said beside the fact that it is well managed, clean, and service is super fast. The fried chicken here is really good. I like it as much as Popeye’s and that’s quite a compliment.

Yes… it is fast food. And it looks like a fast food joint. But there is such a feeling of community in the place. Locals inhabits it walls on the weekends. Sitting adn talking while eating. My oldest daughter loved the chicken strips here as do I on occasion. I have never had an issue here with the food and the frieds have always been hot adn fresh. I couldn’t do 5 starts as the floor seems to be eternally greasy, of course that could just be the times I have been in there.

This hidden gem brought back so many childhood memories, growing up in DC and eating there with my dad or my aunt. Roast beef was still as good as it gets and the strawberry shortcake was so simple, but sooo good.

I like this particular Roy’s. The staff is always friendly and the restaurant is always clean. They seam to have a lot of regulars from the surrounding neighborhood who just hangout and socialize. If you come at breakfast time and you really want a burger they will make it for you with a smile. Nice. Fixins bar is a staple and they have hand dipped ice cream !

If I am not mistaken, Roy Rogers is pretty much the same as Hardee’s? Nostalgia reigns supreme here, as this feels like a step back to twenty years ago, only without the cigarette smoke. A solid burger, mediocre fries, and a whole lot of memories flooded back to me on a recent visit. If this really is a Hardee’s by another name, I will mos def be back for the fried chicken. Hardee’s was always my favorite fried chicken as a kid, well except Moseberth’s in P-town, and of course… my Mama’s.

I’ve never been to Roy Rogers before, so I was pretty excited that I was finally able to try them out. I like how the company named their restaurant after Roy Rogers, an all-American cowboy. I tried out the Roast Beef Sandwich and the Kid’s Meal that came with 1 fried chicken drumstick. The Roast Beef Sandwich had a nice amount of thinly-sliced roast beef in a kaiser bun — a little dash of salt and pepper and their horseradish sauce made the sandwich pretty solid. The drumstick was also pretty good with its thick breading — I’m sure it would have been even better if it was right out of the fryer! Great peppery flavoring throughout. The side of fries, I was not a fan, but I’m interested in checking out their other side items(like the cole slaw, mac and cheese, and the baked potato). Service was friendly, and it seems as if a lot of families come in here to grab lunch. +super crunchy and battered fried chicken(ask for the drumstick!) +Roast Beef Sandwich +plenty of parking +located in the CVS plaza

Highlights: Fried Chicken! Great price! Delicious! Cons: Wanting more!!! This is my first time to go to Roy Rogers! Thank you to my fellow Unilocalers for helping me find this place. My mouth was watering the whole time driving here and waiting to sink my teeth into some crispy juicy friend chicken! Well Roy Rogers did not disappoint. The chicken was so crispy on the outside and moist and juicy on the inside. The flavor of the chicken was just perfect with just a hint of spicy at the end. I’m a fan! We also ordered the mashed potatoes and gravy and some biscuits. The biscuits tasted really fresh and the mashed potatoes and gravy was just perfect. I haven’t a complaint in the world about this fast food joint and don’t usually give 5 stars for any fast food joints but for friend chicken this good I’m going there. Col Sanders eat your heart out!

Walking into this place almost brought me back to my childhood when my family used to buy buckets of fried chicken and take them to the park to enjoy the weather. It was strange at first partially because Roy Rogers is such a nostalgic place for me. Fairfax VA used to have a Roy Rogers until it was gone. When I head that the Belle View Shopping Center had one I knew I had to go. I arrived sometime around noon which is an early lunch and it wasn’t very busy just some elderly folk enjoying their food and reading the newspaper. The cashier was a very nice lady she was friendly and had a very nice sweet tone to her voice. I decide on a roast beef sandwich with mash potatoes(strange I know) but it was a craving. Overall my food was good… thats it nothing more and nothing wasn’t bad but it didn’t satisfy my childhood craving either. Maybe it was because the toppings bar wasn’t what it used to be. Either or Roy Rogers will always be a nostalgic place for me and if I’m in Alexandria I will most likely stop by again this time for fried chicken.

Mmm yummy fried chicken with crunchy skin ever after being refrigerated overnight. Plus really courteous staff!
