Just wanted to update for anyone looking that ABQ Playroom has sadly shut it’s doors for good as of 8÷9÷2013. I don’t know of a similar play space in the area but I’ll keep looking. We will miss ABQ Playroom very much — it was great while it lasted.

I’m not a big fan of parents these days. Everywhere I go I’m disappointed with us. Sitting around in our cars staring at our phones, completely disconnected from our children who aimlessly wander around the playground looking for something to do. This goes for the dads and the moms in equal measure, those status updates don’t fool me. Placing your kid in a kid-friendly environment and then staring at Facebook will not crown you Parent of the Year. Communication used to be a two-way street, people spoke to one another, they understood the art of listening, and they interacted with their children. You, too, can develop these antiquated skills by meeting a fellow parent at the ABQ Playroom. Spend all morning enriching kiddo lives with slides and cubbyholes galore, dressing them in costumes, letting them grocery shop and cook up plastic yummies, all the while laughing and sharing your life with a fellow human nurturer. This whole communal/village aspect of life may not be a modern necessity, but it’s mighty fun at this little strip mall spot in the Heights. The Playroom is precisely that, only a room. This came as a surprise, since I’d been led to imagine so much more. The cost, even with a membership, is steep enough to warrant only our casual visit. That said, there’s a lot to this place. Toddler-specific activities, various classes, daycare options and private party options make this a really useful resource for busy ‘rents. And if you have to, it’s a good place to drop the kid, take a breather and read the latest status update from your online«friends» who desperately need you to know that they just finished cleaning the toilet. Just keep that stuff to a minimum, please. You’ll never get these years back.

This is a clean, safe place to take children for a play date, classes, or a party. They also have unique classes for younger children taught by some impressive instructors. They have SPANISH, Art, Kindermusik, and other fun classes like ROBOTICS and American Girl. I take my 4 and 7 year old to meet up with friends. They both really enjoy it. I like that they make a mess with their friends in a neutral ground while I chat with my friends in the parent lounge. I receive the monthly newsletter. They do some neat events like during Balloon Fiesta or Christmas. We had our soccer party there for 4⁄5 year olds. There were older and younger siblings and parents. Everyone had a good time. I liked that it was private so that our players felt comfortable and could just enjoy time together outside of soccer. We used the party room for pizza and cake. It is the best and easiest soccer party I have had yet!
