John Wiley Construction has been operating here for over 30 years. John personally managed our remodel that later revealed extensive structural damage. He gave us detailed information and options so that we could make the most appropriate, cost effective repairs. Also, he represents and oversees professional subcontractors including painters and roofers. They were experienced craftsmen who have worked with John for several years. We are so grateful to have found this ethical and reliable contractor. We trust him fully and look forward to future projects.

I had a kitchen project I have been thinking about for some time. I finally decided to move forward and got bids from several contractors for a kitchen island. Each came in over my budget and taking longer than I wanted to give up my kitchen. I was talking to a friend and she recommended John Wiley. I was about to give up on my project and he was going to be my last call. John, was very flexible with my schedule, we talked for a bit and he suggested a different way to approach my project that would save me 40% on the cost and take 3 days less than any other contractor. A simple minor change to my idea made a world of difference. My plans were just one single inch different than the standard size of things and required a lot of custom work. If I was happy with changing 1 inch he could same me time and money. John was honest, helpful and professional. He helped me save money instead of pushing me towards more expensive options. His crew were professional, punctual, friendly, courteous, careful, and quick. The result is beautiful. If you are looking for a contractor that is more interested in doing an amazing job and keeping customers happy than making money, John is your guy. Thank you very much John. I get a ton of complements on my new island. You did a beautiful job.

My experience with this company doesn’t even rate one star, but this system won’t let me award zero stars. Trust me: the name«Wiley» pretty much says it all. I contacted John and asked him when he could come out to give me an estimate. It was Saturday, and my schedule was open on Monday, so we agreed on a time. I then told him I just needed to receive the estimate for my kitchen tile job as well as the repainting of my condo within a couple of days of his visit.(My condo is one bed/bath in 740 square feet, and the job exclusively involved painting and tile replacement – nothing else. I mean, it’s not like an experienced professional wouldn’t be able to sum the job up pretty quickly.) He stated that that wouldn’t be possible because he had to get his tile guy and painter out to see the job after my meeting with him. As I know virtually nothing about construction, I said, «I don’t mean to be offensive at all – it’s just my ignorance – but if you’re hiring a tile guy and a grout guy, then where do you figure into the scenario here?» He responded that that’s just how contractors work. I didn’t understand this, so I reiterated my desire not to offend and then asked, «Well, why would I not want to just go directly to them? I mean, exactly what work does a person in your position do himself besides hire sub-contractors?»(Because all that needed to be done was to have the tile countertop replaced and the painting). He responded that a contractor does«other work» while the sub-contractors are doing their thing. But in my particular case, there IS no other work that needs to be done. He continued on that I was welcome to hire sub-contractors myself to do the work. Perhaps I was naïve in thinking that he had my best interests in mind, because when I asked him for the names and phone numbers of his tile guy and his painter, he said that he didn’t «give away HISGUYS» and then, with a tremendous amount of attitude in his voice, went on to say that, to be frank, he didn’t want to be «wasting his time» with me. And as he continued on his little hissy fit of telling me off, I interjected and said, «Well, I don’t want you wasting your time, either» and hung up on him. When you first meet someone, whether it’s for personal or professional reasons, it is my experience that everyone is on their best behavior at the outset. This means that the best one can hope for is for that behavior to remain a constant – although not being perfect, we all tend to slip a couple of notches(at least). What I experienced was apparently Mr. Wiley’s best behavior. You want to hire him? Well, he’ll be available Monday morning, because he ain’t coming anywhere NEAR me. (By the way, regarding the heading below entitled«Are these photos helpful?»: I couldn’t care less what his(well, they’re allegedly his) photos look like. He saved me time on that one. Thanks, John!)

I am going to echo everything the previous reviewer said and add the following: 1. John Wiley is the most ethical businessman with whom I have ever done business. 2. John Wiley is the most competent and skilled contractor I have ever known. 3. Over the past 25 years John Wiley has constructed for me: A. Two beautiful redwood decks. B. Two sheds(wired and with foundations). C. Completely wrapped the home in redwood 1×6 boards and boxed in the eaves. D. Re-plumbed the home in copper. E. Installed all-heart clear redwood 1×6 in several rooms of the home. F. Built a large redwood room for recreational use. G. Installed a significant amount of track lighting. H. Built a garage. I. Remodeled my wife’s 1930’s kitchen. J. Constructed a walk-in pantry with period tiled work counter. K. Dealt faster than promptly with various emergency plumbing and electrical issues over the years. I will close by simply stating that John Wiley is the Very Best!

John Wiley Construction is one of the rarest finds in the construction business these days. This is a father-son team that puts quality, service and satisfaction above all else. I’ve never met such an organized, punctual and hard-working crew that really take pride in their work. Even better, they’re funny and friendly. They make you feel comfortable about having men in heavy work boots coming in and out of your home. My parents have been using John Wiley Construction for years, and I recently hired them to do a project at my house. My parent’s house caught fire and practically burned down to the ground in 2001. Our insurance company hired contractors that ended up doing sloppy work and abandoning the job, so through a neighbor’s reference we called John Wiley Construction to complete work needed — Everything from finishing the roof, drywall, painting, God who knows what else but they completed the job and the house looked better than it ever did. From that point on, my parents have been using them for as much as they possibly can. A few years ago they replaced 2 decks in my parent’s backyard that is hard to access and also built on a very steep hill. They did a FANTASTIC job with their decks. Their deck work is the reason why I recently hired them, as I needed to replace a fairly large single deck in my yard which is also built on a hill like my parents have. Needless to say my deck came out great. :) I’m very happy with their work and I’ll never use any other company to work on my home.
