I remember when The á la Menthe was situated in sweet basement premises at Staedet, in order to use the loo you had to go upstairs and use the above hairdresser’s amenities. It was something so Danishly bohemian compared to how cafes worked in Sweden at that time. That said, the not-so-new-anymore premises nearby is probably more practical and the resaturant is lovely decorated, light and colourful with a hippie chic blend of Morocco and Denmark. The food is great with lots of flavourful vegetarian options, sallads, sauces and textures. And if you only have room for cake and coffee that’s really good too. Prices are affordable and good value for money. Lots of the things used for decoration can also be bought, so you can bring a little piece of the sweet The á la Menthe ambiance with you home. A café well worth a visit when in Copenhagen, for a tasty, vegetarian meal or fika.

We walked in to get breakfast on a Saturday morning in late February, no one else was inthere, except for the waitress. We asked her if we should just seat ourselves, to which she nodded yes in reply. We sat and waited for her to come and provide us with a menu but she had turned to her phone and lost all interest in us. We waited for about five minutes and just couldn’t be bothered anymore. Instead we went to a cute little café across the street. One star because I couldn’t give none!

I read about The á la Menthe in a book and wanted to come here as a tea drinker. We visited on a cold and rainy day, and the place offered just the right feeling. It was warm and cozy, colorful and bold. We each had a chai; it was expensive but delicious. We also shared a falafel plate; it was expensive and mediocre, though did offer multiple tastes. Should I be lucky enough to visit Copenhagen again, I would happily come back here. I would also happily recommend it to most anyone. Stop in for a tea(versus the food), especially if it’s a little chilly outside.
