Local coffee shop where youth speak about religion, government, and everyday life! It was like a scene out of a movie. A very small, hole in the wall, coffee shop. that serves delicious caffeinated concoctions and a very small assortment of confectioneries. Grab a seat to converse, or enjoy a board game, take your chances at the foosball table, or just sit there and enjoy time standing still. The drinks are great. Had my «usge» Chai Latte and it was perfect! Oh and it’s a nonprofit! All work is done by volunteers on solely contributions. ANDALLPROFITSAREDONATED!

Cozy place, nice atmosphere and extremely cheap drinks, especially if you take your student card! Will go back for sure.

Pretty cool place. The interior is that of «wood cabin on top of a mountain.» I definitely get a feeling of the classic Norwegian after-ski when I enter. Even though it is located in Denmark. Far away from any mountain. First of all, golden prices. If you’re a student, you should check this out straight away. We paid 25dkk for a beer and only 15dkk for a glass filled with olives. Me and my company found a place in front of the fire place and it filled us with a warm cozy sweater feeling as we sipped on our cold Finnish beer. Yes, they got Finnish beer on tap. How awesome is that. They could’ve removed the olive liquids from the bottom of the glass as I found myself dipping my fingers into a sticky mess to reach the last few. But in this otherwise cold night, in front of a fireplace, I don’t mind the slightest.

Very cute and cozy café /bar with a retro flair. They had live music when I was there which just made the place even nicer :-) I will definitely come back.

Super mellow and cosy café/bar near city center. Café retro is a not for profit student bar so their prices are very low compared to nearby places. Café retro has limited food options but is a great place to grab a coffee and study during the day and grab a cheap beer at night. They feature some great free concerts and events at night so be sure to check online for a schedule :)

The atmosphere of Café Retro is exactly what I imagine when I think of the Danish hygge. With tons of couches, there’s plenty of room to gather friends and chat for hours. The coffee is awesome, and the normal coffee has a student discount! Café Retro is also a non-profit café, so there’s no possible way to hate this establishment. It’s definitely a place that should be on everyone’s list of places to go during their stay in Copenhagen.

I liked this place when we visited for a few drinks. It sort of reminded me of student type bar back home in Scotland, but not in a particularly bad way. We went on Halloween night so everyone was dressed up and there was a live band playing a mixture of their own music and some covers. It all made for a really good atmosphere. Drinks wise I had a Brooklyn IPA’s which were nice, so no complaints there. All in a decent, large pub and good for a few beers. Decent crowd and atmosphere.

Fantastic place. I really love the atmosphere here. They truly captured what the Danish word«hygge» is all about. Been here a couple of times with lovely live reggae music. And to top it off, they have student discount! I would encourage everyone to come here, relax, enjoy a beer and some casual conversation.

This is one of the first places I went to as a student. I guess it is highly appreciated by students as they have lower prices if you have your student id with you. There is a foosball table and upstairs there are some cosy strange funny different small areas to sit. This place seems kind of forgotten by time and that’s why it has this cosy strange atmosphere. You can find some good events and concerts here. The cool thing is that all the money goes to some good causes they raise the money for and the people working there do it for free. Actually it is so popular to become a volunteer there that it is hard to get the job! Especially on cold winter days it is a nice hangout place. I definitely recommend it for a beer or two. Just check the opening hours as they tend to close quite early on weekdays(I think around 24:00) and on weekends maybe at 02:00 but not sure.

Favorite bar I went to in Copenhagen! This is a two story café/bar that has live music, foosball, free wifi and lots of young people. Perfect chill place to start your night and people watch. I also loved that the bartender asked me if I was a student, so I could receive the student discount for beer! Gotta take opportunities to save money in Copenhagen when you can

I really like this place: I was brought there by my roommate that confessed to me that he is used to bring people there during the first date… and I really understand why: the Café Retro is the perfect mix of coziness and the kind of feeling you have, when your love hugs you. I had two hot cups of masala chair tea, with a piece of chocolate cake. The taste of that and the mood of the people around, let you really forget about your problems and cozy furniture around the café makes you feeling home. I really enjoy this place, It is not expensive and there are a lot of things to do: they have a nice board where you can know more about activities in Copenhagen and if you want just to spend some time there, you can take some games they have. I really suggest to come here if you want to chat with other friends and spend some good time. 4 stars just because they can improve it with a faster service, but the place is amazing.

Cool place for drinks or a beer before hitting another bar or a club. The music is not too loud so you can sit and talk, and the prices are very reasonable(30 Kr for beer on keg, 50 for a drink and 40 for special beer). A lot of different types are coming here so you have something to watch ;)

This café tickles my fancies. I love the cozy atmosphere, it’s like living room but you can actually get work done cause you can actually see. It’s not too dark here. Coffee prices are okay, cappuccino and a small café latte runs around 25 dkk. If you get the regular coffee, it comes with a student discount. Out of all the places on Sunday night, this was the only café I found that was open till 23:00. Thumbs up for that! They have seating upstairs as well, great place whether you come with company or you’re flying solo. I also love the vintage décor, They had old school telephones and books lying around. Lastly, this place is a non profit, can’t go wrong with that! I prefer this over studenterhusset!

Great place to eat while in Copenhagen with a decent variety of food. I’ve never been a big fan of Danish food(sorry Mom) but this place has a bit of everything to enjoy. It’s close to Stroget as well so after your meal you can stroll around and watch the local natives party… and join in whenever possible!!!

Very cosy café close to «Strøget» with a nice atmosphere and volunteer workers in the bar. Sometimes they’ll pass around a bowl of free popcorn or nachos, which is pretty unique and makes you feel at home. Worth a visit and student friendly prices, and a good place to bring your homework and just chill.

What a fantastic little location in the heart of Copenhagen. Non-profit employees ensures that little extra enthusiasm behind the bar, on the stage or when mingling around with the customers. The café is perfect for a cosy afternoon session of homework or just meeting up with friends at student affordable prices. Every now and then live bands or open mic sessions will entertain in the two floor hippie home.

Ein sehr gemütliches Café mit angenehmen Preisen und freundlichen Mitarbeitern. Das beste daran ist natürlich, dass es nicht gewinnorientiert geführt wird. Es gibt einen Wuzzler und manchmal Live-Musik.

I adore this little café(actually not so little since it has two floors, plenty of soft couches and a foosball table). Everything here has a slightly old and worn-through feel from the mismatched coffee cup sets, to the old furniture, to the soft music over the sound system. They will substitute soymilk into any drink so us lactose intolerant folks can enjoy cappuccinos and lattes. Most cafes will if you ask. Cup of coffee will run you Kr25, but for a better deal you can get a whole French press of coffee for Kr40 which then you can share among your friends =) Plus, their women’s toilet sign is Wonder Woman. I like it.

I was introduced to Retro by a friend who volunteered at the Norrebro location, but this one quickly became one of my favorite places in the entire city. Its location, first – sublime. The area just adjacent to Gammel Strand quickly became one of my favorite parts of the city, with quiet windy streets and none of the touristy flavor of Stroget nearby. Retro itself is unlike any café I’ve ever been to – I have a feeling I’ll be looking for something like it in the US for a long, long time. The coffee, and especially the chai, is great, and fairly reasonable for deeply expensive kbh. But the real selling point is the atmosphere – hygge is almost a cliché to explain over here, but Retro embodies it, from the hammocks to the benches. I didn’t think I’d ever miss ‘finals’, but I do miss doing them here. The popcorn is also fantastic. But you really do have to stake out a spot and stay all day – shouldn’t be a problem, though.
