In the beautiful neighbourhood of the newbuilds after the Copenhagen fire of 1728(«ildebrandshusene», the fire houses) you will find the mother of the Danish steak house tradition. A Hereford Beefstouw opened for business in 1971 and has spawned more than ten branches in DK, Greenland, China and Sweden. When entering the original restaurant in Aabenraa, it becomes clear that this is a house of tradition. Not much has changed since the opening. You order by checking the foods of your choice on a note which you pass to the waiter — it turns out that the layout of this note has not been updated since the seventies, so some add-on choices are not available for checking and must be added manually. This aside, the restaurant does deliver a more than decent quality of meat and accompanies, with a kind and laid back attitude. And this is why I would probably prefer A-H-B to other(newer) steak houses i CPH on a casual day: You can go there after a busy day of working and shopping, with messy hair and a Suicidal Tendencies hoodie, without feeling like a castaway. This restaurant does not pretend to be anything but a nice and welcoming restaurant which serves great steaks. And kudos for that!
