We went with a small group of friends during ‘Dine Out’ on a busy Friday night. I had the Kunafa Wrapped Prawns with Sweet Chili Glaze and this was a great starter, and aside from the great company was the highlight of the night. We didn’t see any food across our table for another 35 – 40 minutes. I had the Halibut Fish & Chips and it had a nice crispy outer and not overly battered. The only option for dessert was the Crispy Peanut Butter Bar which was very underwhelming. We were allotted 2 hours for our dining experience but we were given the courtesy of extra time because the food took a long time. Overall, just OK.

Ambiance is fantastic and the service is wonderful. Their food is eclectic and you can get everything from typical fish and chips to more elaborate seafood dishes. The clam chowder was brilliant and the rest of their food was top notch. They have a bit of a club vibe which is fun but may not be for everyone. However, if it is, go to this place and get your fish on! Really well done!

Went there for dine out Vancouver 2016. Started off with delicious casear with a pickle and a prawn skewer. I got the prawns for appy which was delicious. The small catch for entrée was quite interesting. I got really excited and it tasted good until half of the crab tasted like rock salt. It was so salty I couldn’t eat it. Nice dessert though.

Got the new years special and was impressed by the large catch. The crab cakes are delicious too. The whole meal was 80 bucks so id say it was a really good meal. Service was a bit slow but it was new years eve and the food was worth the wait.

My brother and I were looking for seafood places and we came upon this one which was closer to where we lived. We were very disappointed. We ordered 2 small catch and everything came in a bowl with a mediocre portion of food. Most of the content consisted of potatoes, beans and shrimps and for a total of $ 45! Taste was very bland as well as if they boiled the food and sprinkled it later on with a huge amount of butter. We also waited for more than 30 mins to be served the food even though the restaurant was less than half empty.

This place deserves a five stars rating for many factors. 1. They were willing to accommodate their customers by rearranged their tables to better suit the number of customers. 2. The host and the waiters and waitresses were friendly and patience toward us, since we are from out of town and trying to figure out what to eat and what best for us. 3. They constantly ask their customers if the food are ok and if there are anything else they could offer. Tourists want and like something like that. They want to come into a place where they would be able to know what they are about to eat and how would the business treat their customers. As far as the food go, we walked out happy and full. Price can be expected since this is pretty much a tourist sector of the city.

Holiday party time. Drink and passed hors d’oeuvres for the night with a DJ up front for entertainment. Everyone seemed to really enjoy the evening. Beer selection could have been better. Food was generally good but why some of the food was thought to be a good idea for being passed around in a crowded party(think meatballs dripping with sauce that when looking at them you really could not tell if they or your mouth would win the diameter contest) remains a mystery to me.

Came here for the first time yesterday for lunch with two friends. We had caesars and oysters, and we also shared a plate of crab with calamari and all assorted fish. It was awesome but I didn’t give 5 stars because for $ 46 I found the share plate to be lacking in size. Other than that, the food was good, the service was good, and we had an overall good experience.

I’ve only begun working here a month ago. I’ll be honest with you, I had no knowledge on the Glowbal Restaurant Group, and when I applied at The Fish Shack, I did because I knew I wasn’t going to eat the food(I’m not a huge fish eater.) Boy was I wrong. After only my first day, the staff(my coworkers) amazed me. The friendliest and funniest people you’ll meet! Watching them connect with guests and watching those guests be thoroughly pleased with their service was astounding. And the food! It’s mouth watering GOODNESS. I am definitely a seafood person now. I eat there everyday. The fish and chips are the best in town! Get the halibut. Cajun fries are bursting with flavour, and it comes with your choice of coleslaw — kimichi, Asian vinaigrette, and traditional.(The Asian vinaigrette is my choice.) Overall, along with the exciting and lively atmosphere, the attention to detail the managers and servers provide, and the food flavour and quality, a visit to the Fish Shack is one you won’t forget. In fact, it’s one you’ll continuing wanting.

Visited The Fish Shack on a lively Halloween night. Granville is a great spot on weekends for dinner. I’m familiar with the Glowbal restaurants and this joint is certainty different than the others. It’s the more hip, cool and laid back sibling. The staff were extremely upbeat and friendly, they were genuine and professional! Ambiance was rustic and lively with large screen TVs featuring sports. A nice place to relax and have a drink. Unfortunately, I had to take one star off because I didn’t enjoy my taco. :(I love a good fish taco, but I didn’t find this specific one meaty enough with chunks of fish. I did try their other item, the fish & Chips, which I enjoyed much better. Would love to return again to give their menu another go!

Caesars! Caesars! Caesars! Every item I’ve had on the menu is great but I truly come for the caesars. The clamato mix is made in house(and right in front of you if you sit at the bar). Each Shack’s very own Caesar is decorated with 5 prawns. Awesome, right? Prices aren’t too outrageous either. I’ve always had wonderful service the times I’ve spent in Vancouver and I will always return here. Thank you!

Definitely won’t rush back here. I met a former coworker for dinner. We had the prawn cocktail(really pricy for 3 prawns) and the calamari — both acceptable, quality wise. We were halfway through a bottle of wine when we got our entrées. We both ordered the Fish Shack salad, the one with«sashimi grade» salmon and tuna. It. Was. Awful. I have never before returned a meal but I wasn’t going to mess around with consuming raw fish. I only ate one piece of salmon and decided that was it. It was warm and mushy and tasted fishy. My friend said it reminded her of a slab of fish that you get at a grocery store, on the Styrofoam tray. Eek! I didn’t even try the tuna but my friend thought it tasted better than the salmon. The salad itself was spicy in a too much onion way. It was barely edible so we only managed a few bites. Our waitress was very apologetic and the manager came over as well. He assured us that the fish was safe to eat and although it isn’t kept on ice, as is the case with sashimi at a Japanese restaurant, it is kept in the fridge. Personally, that is tough for me to believe because it was absolutely room temperature. It wasn’t even fridge cold. A while later the waitress offered us a complimentary dessert, which was appreciated. I couldn’t figure out how the place was so busy. Aside from our experience, it wasn’t anything special. A very average restaurant — surprising for Glowbal Group.

After trying a number of Sunday brunch spots, all of which had 60+ minute lines, we happened on Fish Shack, which was bewilderingly empty. Our hotel concierge had recommended it as a place for dinner, so we took a chance and grabbed a table near the patio. The food was nothing memorable but still fine and service was friendly and fast. Their menu is seafood oriented(duh!) but there are some dishes for land lubbers too. Compared to other offerings in Vancouver, I wouldn’t go out of my way but it suited the purposes on that Sunday morning.

If you have kids, it’s really hard to find a place down Grandville road to eat that isn’t too greasy or not a bar, but we’re glad we found this place because the food was awesome as well as the service: Halibut –4 stars — for around $ 23 we got a fresh piece of halibut with a tint of horseradish sauce with long grain rice and coleslaw. grilled salmon — 4 stars — for $ 21, the salmon was grilled perfectly with a smoked flavor. Salmon fish and chips — 3 stars — for around $ 13, I knew I should have ordered something else because it’s all fried, but it was pretty good fried with tempura batter. kids menu alfredo — 3.5 stars — for about $ 8, a good sized alfredo with bacon that my son loved. clam chowder — for about $ 8, we read how good the clam chowder was, we ordered it and it was not your usual clam chowder — a totally different chowder with a sweeter and totally nice flavor taste that I can’t describe that blended with the bread bowl. calamari salad — 5 stars — for $ 13, This salad was really good mixed with fried calamari and shrimp. Toffee dessert — this free dessert topped everything we ate, and totally made it a perfectly more than satisfactory meal. It was one of the best desserts we’ve eaten with a syrupy warm toffee over pound cake, or something like that, that totally hit the spot to end our meal. Service — 5 stars — even when the waitress was really busy she served us with a smile and was very pleasant. When I checked in Unilocal, nothing popped up about free dessert, but I saw the comments about a free sticky toffee, and asked her about it, so she awarded us with it with a smile. We had a totally great experience at this restaurant amongst all the bars and going ons outside of it.

Unfortunately this place didn’t live up to my expectations. I miss Sanafir! Lol I ordered the fish and chips which were pretty good but not fabulous for a place called The Fish shack. Lol. I suppose if you’re craving seafood and are in the area, you could stop by. I think I’d rather go to Stevenson to be honest. I don’t see myself going back here. My friend didn’t like his food and didn’t think it was that great. The cod was made well, the fries were ok but the tartar sauce could have been way better. It was nothing great. I honestly prefer McDonald’s tartar sauce to this one! Lol. The ambiance was very casual and blah. There are tvs so you can watch sports etc. Our service was really good. Our waitress was attentive and friendly which was appreciated as we couldn’t make up our minds. Without the good service this place would have gotten 2 stars.

Being from Hawaii, Vancouver is a place where there are so many restaurants to choose from it will make your head spin, so we were in search of some Oysters and Fish & Chips to chow down on while we were here for such a short time. The Fish Shack was a place close to our Hotel last year during our one night stay here after our Alaskan Boat Cruise, we thought we would gamble on this place and let me tell you, it didn’t disappoint. I really don’t understand all the negative reviews about this place because the service we had here both times were great and let me tell you, after spending almost a week in Toronto where the service in most dining establishment’s there were somewhat stoic and cold if you ask me, the service here in Vancouver is like a breath of fresh air and people actually greet you with a smile and are full of the Aloha spirit unlike those zombie servers we had in Toronto. We were on a six hour layover on our way back to Hawaii, we thought we would take the Skytrain from the Airport and come back here again because we liked it so much the last time. Now it wasn’t Happy Hour quite yet at The Fish Shack, but our server made my eyes light up when she said that they had a special on Goose Point Oysters for just $ 1.10 a piece. i hadn’t had any oysters on this trip and after hearing our server making that announcement i immediately asked her to give me twenty four of those babies ASAP. Let me tell you, the Oysters didn’t disappoint. The Oyster’s came with five different types of sauces and they were all very good, but all i really needed was some cocktail sauce and horseradish and i was in Oyster Heaven. My other half ordered The Fish & Chips which were light, flaky, and very mild and just the right amount of Fish & Chips for her. I had the Fish Taco’s which were also very tasty but nothing to get me all excited about. The Clam Chowder that came with my entrée was also very good. I really don’t know what people’s expectations are when they come to a place like this, but i thought our dining experiences both times were both remarkable in terms of food and service. I was just shocked that the both times we came here that the place was quite empty but we came in the early afternoon so maybe people were still at work or maybe come here during Happy Hour. I was just so happy that i got my Oyster fix before heading back to Honolulu and all i can say is that if i ever come back to Vancouver another time, i will definitely make this place one of my places to eat again, especially for those Oyster Specials.

Disappointed. But at the same time not, Glowbal restaurants in general cease to impress me. Most Glowbal restaurants are merely a representation of the vanity and opulence far too many Vancouverites(except Hipsters) aim to portray. The quality of Food was noticeably disappointing from their bland fish tacos, which is so amazing they would be so uninteresting, to their burger buns that probably came out of a No Name bag. Perhaps their entrees were something to behold or even their popularity might be attributed to a Happy Hour offering that appears reasonable, between 3:00 — 5:30. I will not be returning to the Fish Shack, after spending $ 100 and being unimpressed with various dishes it was beginning to feel like I was at Society in Yaletown, s**t food * beauteous surroundings * Wishing I was eating somewhere else.

Why don’t we have more crab-bake type restaurants in Vancouver? One of my favourite types of dinners(or lunches) to have! The Fish Shack has a fun environment. When you order the Big Catch, they ring a bell and start screaming(I’m assuming” «Big Catch!». Or something else entirely different — I’m never sitting close enough to the kitchen to hear clearly. The food is usually good. Only had 1 experience where the seafood wasn’t completely cooked. The seasoning is OK however I always find myself drenching the bowl with the seasoning shaker that they provide. On a colder day, I would totally suggest their chowder. An improvement? Bigger tables. It always feels like there isn’t quite enough table space to properly smash my crab legs with the mallet.

Oh Boy… This restaurant was good. Don’t you love it when you go somewhere with low expectations, and walk out of there absolutely socks knocked off? Well this was one of those kinda places. We had a fresh boiled crab/seafood bag of crab, clams, shrimp, corn, and all the trimmings and sauce. Roll up your sleeves to get down and dirty to take full advantage of the experience! Me? I had 1 dozen of the oysters which were incredibly flavorful all the while being large in size. A nice touch is that they give you freshly shaved horseradish instead of the concocted horseradish sauce. Very nice. Good craft beer selection and the staff was super friendly to us tourists. Definitely a must-try if craving roll-up-your-sleeves-and-get-down type of seafood eating in Vancouver!
