Captive market for poor service. I do order from here a lot, being so close to Granville Island, funnily enough, limits your lunch choices when you’re busy and don’t have time to wade through the island visitors. Their prices are high, almost $ 12 for a sashimi box; and their grasp of English is really bad. Just spent far too much time trying to order the Gyoza from their menu. They just couldn’t get that, as per the menu description, I wanted pork & vegetable, all together, in one dumpling; not an order of pork and a separate order of veg. It’s on their menu. I clearly told them where on the menu. I ended up hanging up and will be eating my homemade corn chowder instead. When in Vancouver, eating overpriced sushi with poor service, just isn’t necessary.

What’s more important to a business: repeat customers on a semi-regular basis or not paying Interac service fees? I’ve gone here from my work on occasion because it’s the nearest sushi place. I rarely if ever carry cash on me, and whenever I’ve gone here the girl would make me aware that their preferred minimum for Interac is $ 5, however I only buy a single roll which is 25 cents under, so she would just add 25 cents to the bill. This is what most places do. However today the woman there seemed like management and when I apologized for only having one method of payment she huffed and grimaced for 5 minutes after insisting that it’s strictly $ 5 minimum. After paying I explained what usually happens and she looked appalled and gestured briskly at the sign. I in turn replied that if it’s too much inconvenience for them then I don’t have to come back ever again, she just picked up the sign and waved it at me. Thus I said fine, I will not return, thank you, and left. I should not be forced to buy more food or else walk 10 minutes to an ATM where I’ll be charged twice for a withdrawal from a bank that is not mine. I guess next time I’ll just walk those 10 minutes to another(better) sushi place. Because the sushi here isn’t even very good. That’s my rant.

Found their website and used the menu posted to place an order over the phone. When I arrived I found out that their prices had increased. I pointed this out to the cashier and all she had to say was that the website hasn’t been updated. No apology or reduction of price was offered. The second thing is that it took double the time quoted on the phone for my order to be ready. Bottom of the line is that this is poor customer service. Vancouver is a city full of great sushi places with good customer service so look elsewhere.

The management is very honest. I have accidentally keyed and paid a big amount of tips(150% of the purchase). I came back to the store with the receipt and enquired about it. The lady told me that she has to talked to her boss who was not around at that time and asked me to leave my phone number. A couple hours later, I received a message to go back any time. I went back the next day, the boss has already left at the cashier the total amount of the tips on the bill for my return. I am very pleased with the honesty of the boss, friendly and helpful attitude of the staff. I always like the food there especially the dynamite roll.

So I really am not picky about what I eat and how good things taste unless I am paying multiple bills for a meal. Even if it’s food court level or just not good, I’ll still eat it and find it somewhat delicious. I have come here twice but always gotten sushi and it was good, at least for it’s price. This time I asked my friend to get me some sort of seafood udon, and she got the bento. But seriously, this is the first time I have found udon soup so … off. Udon is pretty simple. Most places sell it for cheap because they can just purchase pre made and packaged udon noodles and add it into some msg based broth, add some cheap ingredients and call it a day. That’s fine by me since it’s edible and I don’t consider it bad. However, I have to say that this udon was way off. WAY off. When I opened the take out udon, my friend told me she could SMELL the fishy smell, and she was a meter away. I had a stuffy nose so I didn’t really realise, until I put it right to my nose and I realised she was right. I didn’t really mind because I was starving, so I starting eating the noodles; just your average store bought udon noodles in some broth. I tried the ingredients inside: there were mussels, oysters, TINY bits of shrimp, octopus and squid. I ate these ingredients, the mussel was fine, and the shrimp was so tiny but fishy, and the octopus, ugh just cheap shit. That’s fine who cares. BUTTHEOYSTERS. What the hell. Sometimes you see seashells on rocks and they grow things on their shells and random seaweed bits, that was what was on my oysters, and their innards were peeking out and just looked SO horrible. What the hell was I eating… My friend could not even look at my food anymore. I don’t know why in my right mind I decided to eat most of it, but I did anyways. Yes, I was a complete idiot, but I was starving. Finally, the broth… how can anything be so fishy??? It was like cheap and bad quality seafood, not washed nothing at all and just thrown into the pot and put into the bowl and served. I knew that when I ate it I would probably feel sick later… … And I was right. Which is why I decided I had to revise my old review. . Ugh.

Sushigo serves Basic Sushi but there’s Art on the Walls. The business is based on combo specials. Today half of the rice seemed just too warm to be served next to raw fish. But it not all average news here. If you dine-in the sushi is nicely presented and served on ceramic dishes. As I was waiting for my food I looked on the walls and noticed Modern Art Paintings. After reading the Artists descriptions I realized the Young Woman behind the counter was the Artist. The Sushi at this restaurant is A-OK. The Art Work on the walls and Artist in Residence is something special. I would rate 3.5 starts if I could

Sushi go? How about Sushi No? While being stuck on the forsaken Granville Island as an Emily Carr student I get sushi cravings. Unfortunately, there is the market«sushi», or Sushi Go. Sushi Go, is more acceptable than the market sushi. Hmm, maybe I should call it Sushi Acceptable instead of Sushi No. Firstly, the sushi is pretty expensive considering all the places in Vancouver I can get sushi for half the price is costs at Sushi Go. Secondly, their fish is awful Third, the sushi is not good enough to justify it’s prices Lastly, the ONLY good thing is there chicken, and their yam tempura rolls the rest is just whatever. I will admit though, the people who work here are super super nice. You get good service which bumps this place to probaby 2.5 stars for me.

It’s cheap. The gomaae is pretty good here. This is the only place I’ve found chicken dynamite rolls so far.
