This is a must try! The pork hotdogs are great. If you are in Canada you must try it. The stands are on the side of the street. They also expanded into Los Angeles(Santa Monica) as well according to the guy that served us.

Totally over hype! The cart I went to open 20 minutes late. I waited in the cold, but since I cab there I didn’t want to leave. Once open, I was told that they will not have any fries. The hot oil machine was broken. It was not a good experience.

The flavoured fries might be better than the hot dogs(which are pretty great themselves)

I literally could not wait to try this spot out on my 4 day trip to Vancouver but after eating one I got EXTREMELY sick! I feel like my dog was not cooked all the way? Was up all night trying to get this thing to pass through my system.

Oh you know… JUSTMYFAVORITEHOTDOGPLACEEVER! I would consider becoming Canadian just to get my Japadog fix whenever I want! Known for their unique hot dogs — both the hot dogs themselves and the toppings. And you can find them almost anywhere in the downtown Vancouver area. You can never go wrong with the kurobuta(«black pig» if my translation is correct… my japanese is a little rusty) Terimayo — topped with nori(seaweed), Japanese mayo, and onions — both sweet and savory. However, having grown up around Japanese food, my favorite is the ume(sour pickled plum) which I believe you can only get in certain locations. But sadly, I wasn’t able to partake in this variety during my last visit :(. I have nothing negative to say about this place… except maybe that I’m mad that I can’t get it in the States. Go get some now… you won’t regret it!(man, I want some now… I hate you Unilocal for reminding me about Japadogs!)

Japadog is a hot dog chain that uses unique, non-standard meats as the sausage for the hot dogs. It’s brilliant and amazing. Because I wanted a unique hot dog, I ended up getting a spicy chili shrimp hot dog, despite my squeamishness about the tiny little shrimp covering the hot dog. My American tastebuds weren’t sure what to expect. So I got it half with the shrimp and asked for the other half dry(onions only) so that I can try their range of sauces that they have at the cart(thai spicy sauce and wasabi mayo). I’m SUPER happy that I got it. The hot dog doesn’t weigh you down and tastes surprisingly light and refreshing(albeit with a good amount of mayo). The bun is not a thick baguette, but rather one of those cheaper fluffy buns — but it honestly works well with the shrimp hot dog because it’s a very delicate taste. Also don’t forget to try the wasabi mayo. I’m going to start mixing mayo with wasabi and spreading it on everything now. Brilliant.

You can’t make this stuff up. I had the croquette, it made my ballz sweat a little it was that good. I had the Macha age ice too. Fried hot dog bun with ice cream. Tingled my toes a lil’.

good dog for all the hype! The vendor doesn’t matter either, at least I don’t think. They all tasted the same. Same vendor for each locations.

Awesome hotdogs. A must if visiting Vancouver. The wasabi mayo taste awesome. Wish these made their way farther south along the coast.

This place is worth the hype! It blends western and eastern flavors perfectly in a multitude of tube meat combinations. I really enjoyed the beef terimayo. The beef hot dog itself is very flavorful, but the terimayo and seaweed take it to a whole other level! I also enjoyed the Okonomi; however, I wish the cabbage was a little more sauteed as it was was a bit pungent and took away from the overall flavor. That being said, the kurobata sausage was amazing! It had a great porky flavor and a nice snap as you bit into it. I really like how they cut slits into the meat, as it makes it a lot easier to eat! Caution: These dogs are messy, so if you’re stopping by for grab and go, make sure to lean forward as you eat and grab plenty of napkins!

The only reason why I trek all the way out to this location is because of their amazing fries. I’m seriously obsessed with their aonori(green seaweed) fries and I love how I have unlimited access to their wasabi mayo for dipping! The butter and shoyu(soy sauce) flavoured flavours are great as well but I actually haven’t tried any of the other flavours. Anyways, I’ve been eating Japadog for years(I’ve tried most of their locations) and I would say that Oroshi is probably my favourite flavour since it’s something that I probably couldn’t make myself at home. Terimayo and Okonomi are also great but I only come to Japadog when I feel like splurging since spending more than $ 1.50(Costco) on a hot dog is a bit hard for me to do!

Hit or miss here. The wait time was decent at 12:45pm. They only had a single person making the hot dogs. The Kurobuta Teriyaki dog(topped off with seawood) was awesome. I loved the teriyaki flavors mixed with mayo. The Meat Love dog was also great. It’s a dog topped off with Chili sauce, cheese, and they toast it with a blow torch. Watch out though! It’s easy to burn your mouth on this one. Don’t get the oroshi dog(topped with radishes). It has a weird taste to it of soy sauce and radishes. Don’t get the Okonomi either unless you really like fish sauce. Both of these hot dogs left a bad taste in our mouths. For the price I’m not sure I would ever get this again. It was ok to try but I’m not a huge fan since some of the dogs were not good.

So SO good. I don’t even know what else to say. It was THAT good. Giant hot dogs/smokies with crazy toppings. I had the Spicy Terimayo which included 3 types of cheese and spice in the sausage and toppings were mayo, teriyaki sauce and seaweed. Just typing this up I want to go back to Vancouver for another. JapaDog, bring your wonderful hot dog creations to Edmonton!

Must try in Vancouver! I was at a conference at the convention center, and this location is just a few blocks away and wasn’t too crowded, even during peak lunch hours. Love that they have veggie options available. I had the veggie terimayo with some sort of garlic fries, and everything was tasty! Staff was very friendly and great at explaining all of the options for the newbies like me! :)

JapaDog has become a well known gourmet weiner pervayor for some time. From one cart run by the owner himself on Burrard and Smithe to multiple locations as well as a brick and mortar location on Robson between Seymour and Richards, JapaDog has become a hot dog juggernaut. This location boasts 10 different dogs as well as shake fries with cool flavours like butter miso. We were needing a snackie, so we came by to get a JapaDoggie fix. I’ve loved the oroshi since forever but I wanted to try a new dog, so I chose the meat lover, with meat sauce and melted cheese. Verdict: Very good. Meatie and Cheesy! Not as flavorful as I would have imagined, so I had to add ketchup, mustard and relish. But really the real Japanese dogs like Teri Mayo, oroshi and Kurobta pork are the ones that rate 5 stars. Japadog has come a long way from it’s humble beginnings. They’re worh a try! g

They call it Japa-Japa-Japa-Japa-Japa-Japa-Japa-Dog! The most futuristic Hot Dog you ever saw! It can walk, and talk, and LOOK, It’s even BREATHIN’ ! It’s so sharp the things it does are UNBELIEVIN’ ! OK, I admit I am referencing an obscure cartoon series from the early 80’s, but I can’t stop trying to adapt the Jabberjaw lyrics to this unique and creative hot dog stand. If Japadog were converted to a superhero, he would have a down theme song like Jabberjaw. The signature Kurobuta terimayo dog was effin cray!!! Kurobuta Pork is the most highly prized pork in Japan and comes from the ancient breed of pig known as Black Berkshire. The meat from the pure strains of Black Berkshire, is regarded as the highest quality pork in the world. The dog was super juicy, flavorful and it was a good sized portion for the price: 5 Stars. On the other hand, the tonkatsu dog was OK. It really didn’t do much for me: 3 Stars. The shimichi fries were pretty good and nice and crispy. In addition, there was a nice spicy kick to them from the seven ingredients in shimichi that includes red chili pepper: 4 Stars. This was a must stop after I read Grace C.‘s, Elysse P.‘s and Steve S.‘s reviews. Word to Japadog: Open outlets in SF, LA&OC. You’ll make a killing!!!

Can never go wrong with japadog and this was the closest one to the hotel. Took a few minutes but well worth the wait, and the portion was perfect. My favorite is the oroshi cos I love the daikon. I haven’t tried the fries yet that seems to be a new thing, will have to try it next time! Seems that they have also added many new varieties, etc.

My boyfriend and I were looking for a place to eat in Vancouver and Japadog popped up on Unilocal.Japanese… hot dogs?! With teriyaki sauce and shredded seaweed?! We’re in! We ordered the: Terimayo Kurobuta Dog — Delicious! The Kurobuta pork sausage was seasoned to perfection. Like with most«links», the skin on the outside was crispy, and the meat inside was soft and juicy. The teriyaki sauce and shredded seaweed on the dog was an awesome combination — sweet and salty. SOGOOD. Okonomi Kurobuta Dog — In comparison, the Terimayo and Okonomi are very similar. The only difference is Okonomi included bonito flakes. This was also delicious. I really wanted to try their Ice Age — fried hot dog buns with ice cream in it, but they didn’t have it. Boo! :( OVERVIEW: The lady at the stand really took her time with every order. I’m not complaining, I actually appreciated this because you can tell she put in a lot of effort. Our hot dogs were delicious and the wait was totally worth it. Yum!

31 Unilocal Review Challenge #1 of 31 Without a doubt, I had the best hot dog in my life here. Maybe I’m a bit biased because I’m Japanese, but I have had all kinds of hot dogs in my life. I’ve tried many kinds of hot dogs all over the United States from California to New York and have had many Bratwursts in Germany. I’ve never had a hot dog quite this good! Japadog was one of the biggest reasons that I came to Vancouver! Of course, I was officially in Vancouver for a convention, but no one needed to know that I cared more about Japanese hot dogs than my convention. After seeing so many of these things on my Facebook feed, I just had to try them! Admittedly, when I first heard about Japadog, I thought that it was a strange concept. Placing Japanese toppings on a hot dog did not seem that appetizing or correct at first. I’m so used to ketchup, mustard, relish, sauerkraut, and mayo. This is so different. Their toppings include seaweed, dried fish flakes, and more! I stopped here 3 times during my 5 day stay and had the Terimayo twice and the Okonomi once. I loved the Terimayo! One thing that’s different about the meat they use in their dogs is that they use the finest pork. According to their signs, it is called Kurobuta. Kurbobuta pork is made from a rare pig breed called Berkshire. Neat stuff. The Okonomi dog featured dried fish flakes and mayo on top. I love dried fish flakes and the hot dog was good, but I enjoyed the Terimayo dog more. In addition to their wonderful dogs, there are also shake fries made with five different toppings, and soda available. The toppings include Butter and Shoyu, Shichimi and Garlic, Curry, Aonori, and Teriyaki,. I got a combo and settled on Shichimi and Garlic fries(I loooove Garlic!) and orange soda. I chose the orange soda because it was a brand that I had never seen before. I’ve had tried every other soda that they offered. If you were not aware, this place is a food stand on the side of the road and there are no tables or chairs. You have to take your food with you to enjoy rather than sitting down and enjoying on the spot. If you’re really sneaky like me, you might be able to get away with eating close by. There’s an office building about 20 feet away with lots of benches outside. I just sat there and consumed my food.

I did it. I tried Japa Dog. There were nine flavours to choose from and I chose the Okonomi flavour because it contained bonito flakes. Bonito is a type of tuna fish. I like fish. The bonito fish smelled and tasted somewhat fishy, but it’s also a sign that it’s made of real fish. The flakes had a melt in your mouth texture. Interestingly, the flakes looked like wood chippings to me. I wish they added some lemon, garlic, or ginger to mask the fishy taste. The sausage itself is made of Kurobuta pork which is really a somewhat less common type of pig from the Berkshire breed. The Kurobuta pork was tasty, but it was also fatty. I’m not used to eating sausages with visible pieces of mushed up chunks of fat. On another note, the pork sausage itself tasted like something from the Chinese butcher shop, so it didn’t taste too Japanese to me. The special Japanese sauce looked like some sort of thick brown soy sauce and it tasted a little sweet and savoury. It taste good, but it wasn’t like, «man, I’m addicted to this stuff good» To be honest, the Japanese mayo, well, there wasn’t enough. I like to add a lot of condiments on a hot dog, and it would be cool if there was an option to add your own mayo or special Japanese sauce. The bun was super soft, slightly toasted and crispy on the outside. I really liked it. It was the best tasting hot dog bun I’ve ever tasted. At the end, I just felt that the Japa Dog was a little too small and priced a little too high, but the overall quality is better than your Ikea or Costco hot dog.
