Visiting from California. Discovered this great pub… surrounded by old cobblestones and near the steam clock. Great pub food, atmosphere, music, local draft beers and the service was very good too.

Oilers bar in Canucks town?! I was only there for the oilers season opening game and only ordered drinks, therefore I can’t really comment on their food. All I have to say that the staff are super fast and friendly. All our drinks were served very fast, even-though it was a really busy night. It is not just an Oilers bar, there were other team stuff hanging on their wall, I think I would go back for a soccer game when it is soccer season!

Great food, throughly enjoyed the environment. My steak was done to perfection, and it was reasonably priced. We didn’t have to wait very long for our food to arrive either. Would visit again.

Okay, so food-wise, I would rate this place a 2 star. I had the poutine(to go) and it was not that great. The fries were pretty soggy, most likely because they were sitting in the container in the heat. They just came with the gravy and cheese — nothing special. The service here was good though. They came up to me right away. I spoke with one of the bartenders for a while and he was super nice. I love Canadians, seriously. Why can’t Americans be just as awesome?! Well, some of us are, especially us foodies: D

If you can stomach the idea of an Edmonton Oilers bar, this place is pretty great. Nestled into the busy Gastown a stone’s throw away from the historic steam clock, this place has arcade video games for free, a great offering of drinks and a friendly staff. I have never had a «kidney wash» before but if you’re in the area, check it out. It’s basically cranberry juice, vodka and love mixed into a mason jar. goes down really smoothly and is a pretty sweet deal! I have gone here on two occasions, both times have been in good company and a lively night. Perhaps this has added to my overall experience but I would recommend you give them a try. get there early enough and you’ll be one of the lucky few to claim the free games and comfy group seating area near the back. don’t wear your canucks jerseys. or do, just expect some dirty looks.

I am so glad we found this great place just a block off the beaten path! Great food, great service, and awesome food! They have a very interesting menu and very reasonable prices. Great drink specials and prices as well! Their house liquor brands would be considered premium at most places. They also have a beautiful view of the harbor with inside and covered outside seating.

I had the reuben and he had the pork shnitzel burger, he said it was a bit greasy. Tasty food and nice atmosphere. The restaurant is tucked in off the Main Street so you have to look for it but well worth the find. Seating area at the back corner is a bit funny with wood blocks and leather benches that took up quite a bit of room. He played the arcade game while we waited to order. Good spot in Gastown.

Excellent! The place has everything! Ambiance, food, drinks, friendly wait staff! I had the rueben and it was great. My girlfriend had the club and she commented it was the best one she ever had. I would definitely come back next time I visit.

I had supper this evening at the Black Frog … I took a left at Cambie Street/Water Street by the steam clock in Gastown and there is was! The beer selection was excellent. I had Monday’s daily special … a saison from Four Winds in Delta. I ordered chicken wings with honey garlic sauce. They were delicious! Though they were loaded with lots of yummy sauce, the skin was still a bit crispy. I also ordered a side of roast potatoes and they were delicious too. Catherine and Tricia were my servers and they took good care of me. I’d go back! I wish this pub was in Toronto!

Food was incredible, wasn’t too busy and the soccer game was on. Awesome views from the outdoor area.

I went there for lunch and got the Veggie burger and asked for it to be vegan. they accidentally put mayo on it. They were extremely apologetic. They fixed the problem right away and they didn’t charge me for it. As a vegan, my food gets mixed up a lot, but people don’t normally take it off the bill. The fact that they did this was super awesome and honourable and it was delicious too.

Very bad service. Ordered food after one hr they are saying there is no food in kitchen. If you can’t handle please tell before so customer won’t wait.

One bartender + Friday night = horrible service, but then again, who’s idea was that anyway?

This small eatery is tucked around a corner and easy to miss; and that would be too bad for a simple reason… yam fries! These orange tubers are easy to mess up, so finding a place that has figured out how to cook them just right deserves a special mention. Finally cut and perfectly fried, these crisp masterpieces arrive with a crush of rock salt and a side of curried mayo. Washed down with a local brew, it’s a perfect match.

One of the best pubs in town. Excelent service and great food. Try the yorkies with roastbeef. Delicious!

A nice place to sit down to have a drink and just hang out with good food. Located in Gastown, we were able to see the port and the steam clock on the street from the patio. Service was friendly and food was decent. I got the veggie bowl due to deprivation of fruits and vegetables during my Canadian trip, but tried the lasagna which I have no complaints about taste-wise plus it came in a good portion. I give it 4 stars because of the ambiance. If I ever revisit Vancouver, I would definitely stop by again.

I wish Black Frog was in the United States. We stumbled upon it while walking through Gastown. It is definitely not as pricey as the other restaurants in the neighborhood, but it is still tasty if you like pub fare. The waitresses were really cool and liked to hear stores of how life is in the southern region of the United States. It is also a cool place to sit on the patio and watch the clock blow steam.

I guess the Black Frog Eatery is pretty good. Nice location and ambiance, okay food. I liked how Black Frog is a half block off Water Street in Gastown, Vancouver BC. So you weren’t right in the middle of the Gastown noise, but still had good people watching and port watching. Our seats on the enclosed patio were excellent for that. For food, I got the Schnitzel burger, which came with a side of the house salad. Schnitzel was pretty standard — basically a breaded pork cutlet. Hard to do it wrong, and they kept it tender — which is the main thing that can get messed up. The salad was okay: lettuce, mandarin orange wedges, sunflower seeds, and a sweet vinaigrette dressing. The wife got the soup & salad combo. She said the soup was pretty good — fresh and homemade tasting. The salad was the Black Frog salad — which I suppose is just how they describe it, but didn’t sound too great to me: green cabbage, bean sprouts, parmesan and toasted almonds, tossed with an asian style dressing. I tell ya, though, it just looked like a huge pile of cabbage to me.

Well I didn’t come here for the Oilers. I came here for the doorman(one that I guess gives this place«a chance to be cool»), and stayed for the Spinach and Artichoke dip, the cheap cocktails and the good company from everyone else as well. It’s unfair of me to say that the food is 5 stars. I’ve only ever had the dip. That said, I like it enough that it would be very hard for me to order something else instead. I’ve heard great things about the burgers and I’ll put it on my to-do list to try. The 5 stars really comes from the environment and it being a really nice, comfortable spot to be. The owner and his wife are active in the business and I appreciate that a lot. I’ve only been there twice and they made me feel like I was family. The bartender remembered me too, by name, and my drink. How could I not go back?! I’ll be back soon and you should too.

Full disclosure: I did not eat at the black frog, I just had beers. So stars are based on beer and service. Read the other ones about the food, but looked like usual bar type things. Wondering around town as a tourist can be mighty thirsty. What to do when you are tired of walking around and figuring out you made a mistake going east on Hastings by china town? quench your thirst with a pint or two at the black frog. A small selection of beers on tap(8? yes that is small now a days) but some flavorful and interesting ones. Bar tender and waiters were helpful with suggestions and friendly. Even to two hot and sweaty tourists that just needed a pint while they figure out which bus to catch to get to the next interesting thing to check out. I’ll go back. I might even eat next time.
