Axis Hair Salon

I’ve been a regular of Josh’s for about 2 years now at Axis, and I wouldn’t trust my hair with anyone else because of his knowledge and impeccable cutting and colouring skills– he does my hair exactly the way I want, or even better than I’ve imagined. I can completely trust him with suggestions and styling, and because of that, I’ve never felt so good with my hair.
Furthermore, the service from all staff members and the products they use on your hair at Axis makes the pricing worth it. Then again, I’m the type of person that is willing to spend a pretty penny on premium service and quality products (my hair colour has been growing out beautifully and hasn’t faded at all). Also, I have an undercut and they do free clean-​ups whenever I need them.
Another great thing that they do: when you call them to make an appointment, they’ll send a text of your appointment so you don’t forget. This is something I’ve personally never experienced at a salon (or any other type of aesthetic service). I will gladly recommend them to anyone who wants to have anything done to their hair.

This was the best hair experience I’ve had in Vancouver! Tara was amazing and knew exactly what I wanted. She took the time to explain the techniques she was using and how to style it myself at home. She’s also just a delightful person in general, so that’s a bonus!
I highly recommend this salon. They were on time, don’t push products at you, and super affordable!

I just wanted to post an update since my hair has faded out.
I want to start off by saying that this update is not to be taken personally by anyone at Axis, because the staff there are amazing and friendly and talented. But, I probably will not be returning.
Over the few months that I had gone to Axis I spent around $ 600 and was mostly unhappy with the way my hair turned out. They had no problem having me back several times to correct it, but it still wasn’t the best. My hair turned out really awesome last time (purple) but it faded so horribly that I had to fix it myself and it cost me about $ 20 to do myself using professional products from Sally Beauty. Needless to say, I look back on the amount of money I spent at Axis to only be left unsatisfied and having to fix my hair on my own and I want to cry!
Brianna is so cool and accommodating, but I’m not sure if we vibed on a hair level. I’m usually not picky like this and have never had a problem with a salon or colouring.

I come for blow outs. Fast in & out appointments.
Been here on 3 different occasions. All blow outs. Haven’t really found anyone here yet that is a blow out god. But they are good on time and they get the job done. I must say all of the stylists had amazing hair washing skills. I pretty much just come here for the good wash and cuz I’m lazy to style my own hair. It’s on the pricy side for a blowout, but no different from majority of the salons in downtown Vancouver.
There are Jr. Hairstylists which cost less, and Sr. hairstylists which are like $ 10 bucks more in price for blowouts. If you want to save money on services that are not life changing, Ask for a Jr.

Love this salon. And Andrew… Artistic genius, Miracle worker, AND Nicest guy ever! I make a point of trekking down to Vancouver from the North just for his colour and cut abilities. He’s simply the BEST!

I go to Axis Salon for their senior stylist, Dawn. For nearly ten years, Dawn has been my go-​to person for any significant change to my hair. My hair is hard to manage and I saught long and hard for a stylist who could restore my hair and make it work for me. Finding Dawn was a breath of fresh air, and a great relief. I’ve recommended her to friends who have all diverse hair types and they each swear it’s the best decision they’ve ever made for their appearance. Dawn is up-​to-​date on trends and has a great eye for change and fashion, so if you’re looking for a change, she’s your woman. A side bonus, she’s deep, intellectual and a great conversationalist. To quote my friend, «everyone needs a little Dawn in their life.»

Great stylists. I’ve gone to Bernice for the last three years. She’s always accommodating with my schedule and cleanups are always free. A bit pricier but it’s worth it.

Andrew rocks! Great cuts and colours. My bill is always very reasonable and it’s the first time I have been charged what I have been quoted (or less). Best all round hairdresser in vancouver.

I can totally see why Axis has been voted the #1 salon in Vancouver over and over again. I went in for a quick hair cut today, and not only was I happy with the price ($ 15 cheaper than where I was getting it done before) but I really enjoyed the experience. All the staff were friendly and nice. The hair cut I got was rather simple, but I discovered once you are in their database you can receive bang trims in the future FOR FREE. Since I like to grow out my hair and only really need my bangs cut from time to time this was like music to my ears.
They also answered all my questions about the style and color I am planning on going with in the future, and I certainly know where i’ll be getting that done!

I’ve been going to Billie-​Jean for over a year. She’s the best hairdresser I’ve ever had, I recommend her to friends and sent my other half to her to get his hair sorted too. She always does a fabulous job and takes pride in her work.
She’s also a bargain at $ 45, and it helps she’s also interesting and incredibly funny.

Just ask for Takashi. He is amazing and can cut any style. I had a long hair but I wanted it shorter. After looking at a few potential styles, we agreed on one, and he went to work. The result is even better than I thought.

I had some good experiences and others not so good after moving to Vancouver.
Until… Until I found Andrew!
I had long hair and decided to cut it really really short. Of course such a «drastic» decision required an awesome hairstylist. I spent almost one month researching the subject ( Unilocal was very helpful) and I found Axis and Andrew.
If you need a competent, cheerful and creative hairstylist do yourself a favor: book an appointment with Andrew and you will be hearing compliments of all your friends after you leave the salon!

I’ve been seeing Katie for over two years now because she is fantastic. She really takes the time to listen to what your looking for, and has the experience and knowledge to make your hair look fantastic. After countless hair stylists over the years I’m happy to say I won’t need to jump around from salon to salon any more!
Everyone is the salon seems super friendly and approachable. All around great place.

She’s a wonderful stylist that works with you to get the desired look! Come in with a vision and work with her step by step to get it. I went in with ratty Vancouver hair, and came out looking like I came from the beaches of California. Feel 100% in 90 mins You would too after a scalp massage, shampoo, and this magic they call Sea Salt spray.

I’ve just recently gone back, and am happy to say that I had the same positive experience as last time; this time with a different stylist (Brittany). They accommodated a last-​minute same day appointment, they were on time, I was happy with the friendly service and the hair cut itself, and the price was right.
The salon was extremely busy, which I take as a sign that they have a happy and thriving client base.

I’m new to van and was in need of a simple trim and partial highlight. I live pretty close to this salon and pass it every day going to and from work and it’s always busy. I figured it would be a safe bet and after looking at reviews, I called and booked an appointment.
I’m really picky about my hair and Josh was absolutely incredible. He knew what I wanted pretty much before I said it. It was great. I will def be back and would recommend him to anyone!
The reason for four stars and not five is mainly price — tbh I’m not sure what the average price for a partial highlight and simple cut is in Vancouver, but $ 200 seemed a bit steep.
Even still, it’s worth it for great hair. Josh will make sure you walk out of there looking and feeling fabulous.

I was going to this salon for years, very nice staff and results were good. What I don’t like about this salon is that there are no colour specialists. The stylists do colour as well and half the time I’d get unsatisfactory results and had to go back to correct the mistakes, and then my hair would be left soooo so dry. Another thing is that the stylists that I had would not recommend anything, they don’t take initiative to correct the look that much, I had to come up with my own suggestions and they then would follow, which at least was very nice. As I said, friendly and nice staff but I’m not going back after my last hair colour and how dry it got.

Katie looks young but you can tell she knows what she’s doing! My mom is a Sasoon trained stylist that has been doing hair for years and is the only person that touches my hair. In a moment of insanity I tried to dye it myself and ended up looking like a crazy-​pants Elvira. I was able to get an end of day appontment and Katie really took the time to listen and explain solutions and alternatives, along with associated costs.
Three hours later, my hair is still darker, but it is a gorgeous rich brown and looks completely naturally. Thank you Katie… You work wonders and are super nice to boot! Now I can show my face (or head) again!

For years, I was always «that guy» who gets his hair cut by friends, and never pays for cuts.
That attitude is what led me to get my hair cut by Erica (for free) while she was in hair school, and now I’m hooked. I’m back to paying for hair cuts, and I don’t mind one bit. Erica is great.
