The Nite Owl Barber Shop

I’ve been here several times and everytime its great! They are very organized and that inspires me to make sure I show up on time. I get my hair cut once a month and i get a beard trim every two i like how i dont feel rushed, and they time it properly. For me its a time to unwind a bit and i look forward to my appointments. Thats not to say they arent accommodating when you’re in a hurry. I own my own business and just as i sat down for my shave last time my phone went off and i had twenty minutes to be somewhere. I got the express shave from sailor Tony and it looked like he spent and hour working his craft when it was more like 10 minutes. Bottom line great guys, great place, great atmosphere and a sign South Etobicoke is thinking about becoming trendy.

Every single time my SO comes back from the shop he looks dashing & his style sharper than my eyeliner. I have booked him a couple appointments using the site online booking system, which is fast & efficient. He loves the hair products his barber recommends & has made this place his to-​go spot ever since he discovered it last year. Can’t get enough of how great his hair looks & smells. There’s something about the old schooled cut & style that suits him & makes him look even more than the gentleman he already is. Great job team Night Owls!

Wanted to save review #900 for somewhere special, and no one deserves it more than Brian and the team at The Nite Owl Barber Shop. I’ve moved around and tried barbers all over the 416 and the 905 and this is the first and only place that does the old school vibe the right way.
First, there’s the shop: This barber shop has a long standing history in the Long Branch community (south Etobicoke near the border of Toronto and Mississauga). There has been a barber shop in this exact location since the late 1940’s early 1950’s. The original team of barbers retired and the shop was vacant and in pristine condition for over 10 years until shop owner Brian took it over just under a year ago. It’s had very few modifications over the years and much of the contents (vintage waiting chairs, barber chairs, and stations) are original — as their website states, it’s a veritable 1950’s time warp. Truly remarkable. Best of all, there’s always cold drinks (served from a vintage refrigerator) or a freshly brewed pot of coffee available for free for clients.
Second, there’s the barbers: The fellas here are really the heart and soul of this place. The banter, movie quotes, and traditions here will keep you smiling and laughing at every visit. This eclectic group of bearded boys may look intimidating but you honestly couldn’t find 3 of the nicest guys in Dave, Simon and Brian. Don’t be shocked if the three will occasionally ring a bell or shout FIRST DIP when a brand new container of Palmade is used for the first time. They even have a young apprentice barber Vincent, who for $ 5 will shine your shoes in the traditional manner, a time honored tradition which he learned from his grandfather. He’s so good at shoe shining that he was being featured in an upcoming Canadian documentary film based on this lost art form!
Finally, the community: I’ve been to a ton of cool looking barber shops and hair salons, I’ve had a good guy (or gal) cut my hair, but I’ve never have the two come together to create a true Barber culture. At The Nite Owl, the combination of history and aesthetics of the building, merged with the skill and good nature of the staff has created a local community hub for local guys in the know. It’s not uncommon to have local regulars stop in for a shoeshine, coffee and a chinwag and you’re always welcome to pop by (however you might not always be able to get a cut — they’re pretty booked up). I think the sense of community and male camaraderie is heightened by little touches such as the position of the chairs while you get your hair cut. Most times hair salons will have their clients face their respective mirrors making the interaction about you and your stylist. At The Nite Owl, the chairs are turned away from the mirrors so that all the clients and barbers are facing each other which leads to lots of chatter, jokes and laughs.
I’ve been coming to see Brian now for 3 – 4 months already and I’m sold. The man knows his shit cold. He’s the first barber I’ve been to who has understood how my multiple cowlicks worked (or worked against each other) and was able to sculpt a traditional hairstyle that was functional, trendy, and didn’t grow out in 4 days like a patch of weeds. And last month I decided to shed my beard and had Brian do the honors of shaving me down. No nicks, no shave burn, no bumps when it grew back in, nothing. An absolute perfect shave beginning to end with tons of attention to detail done on the preparation and execution of the shave.
I could go on, but I don’t want to sell you on this place to the point where it’s impossible for me to get a haircut anymore. Best you just know that when you need a cut or shave, the community at The Nite Owl will be ready and waiting with open arms, readied scissors and a few good laughs.

A friend of mind recommended I drop by this place. I chose a random barber (Brian) who I think happens to be the owner. I’ve been here twice thus far. First, let’s talk about the people. Brian is what every customer-​focused person should be. Really friendly, easy to talk to, laid back, and obviously a skilled barber. In fact, I feel everyone who works here shares the same sort of positive attitude & skillset. Nothing but good vibes, these guys are fun to be around. The place itself is like taking a trip back in time (in a good way). The price is MORE than right for the service. Hot towels? Yes please.

Seriously this place is amazing.
A little backstory first. I’ve been going to the same «salon» to get my haircut for almost 20 years now. I won’t name them but the odd review of theirs that comes up all share the same points, namely listening to the wants and needs of their clients and not being attentive to the client in the chair. I’ll admit I have had a better experience there than most but my last trip there soured me. I’ve been wearing the same style for quite some time and wanted a change. I discussed this with my «stylist» and we both agreed that I’ll need to grow it out a bit (the top only as I keep the back and sides short) to change it. The following cut was terrible, he just went back to what I had before. All that time growing it out was now gone… I went home disappointed.
Later that night I was just reading some news online and saw sidebar ads about some other men’s «salon» near me. I guess since I had the appointment on my phone Google read it to target some ads my way. Well this time it actually worked. I started Googling and came across The Nite Owl. I’ve always hated changing where I get my haircut, but after reading reviews and seeing an interview with Brian on youtube I just knew it was the right time and this would be the right place.
On to the review.
It’s a great little shop. The décor is just what one would expect from a tradtional barber shop. Simply put, this is the best haircut I have ever had. Brian is truly a craftsman of his trade who obviously takes pride in his work yet remains humble. It’s not just the great cut that has me loving this place, it’s also the little things such as even though it was my first visit there, Brian remembered and used my name. That makes me feel valued as a customer and not just another number.
When I left, I looked great, smelled great, and most importantly felt great.
To me it was worth the drive from Burlington! The Nite Owl Barber Shop has earned it’s spot as the only place to get my haircut. My next appointment is already booked :)
Do yourself a favour and check this barbershop out you will not be disappointed.

I required a last minute hair cut and my barber was unavailable, so he recommended me to Brian. Luckily Brian had a cancellation, and took me in at the very last second. I run in late, and all flustered he looks at me and says «You okay man? You’re in the right place». I laughed and the rest was history. Great guy, nice shop, amazing haircuts. My Cut: unshaved fade at the top, 1 at the bottom, comb over, low taper at the back, half inch off and thinned out on top.

Brian is fantastic, end of story. If you want your hair cut properly, this is the spot. If you want a proper shave, here you go. Beard trim, a pro look in no time.
It’d be awesome at twice the price.

I was sad to hear that Brian had left Crows Nest in Kensington Market since it was so convenient to get to, but change is always good. After a couple of months of trying different barbers I felt something was still missing. Nothing, and I mean nothing, compares to the way Brian cuts hair.
It’s not just the cut, it’s the way he listens and fully understands what I need every single time. He’s a stand-​up guy with great people skills, and I love chatting with him while he works on my hair.
The one-​hour TTC ride to get to his new place is more than worth it. I won’t go to anyone else, no matter how convenient.

A work colleague of mine recommended i go check out his barber as we both had similar hairstyles, boy am i glad i did!
Brian has brought back to life an amazingly good looking and traditional barbershop and provides an unmatched tailored experience with the best customer service i have received anywhere. I used to frequent salons that were within a short walking distance of my home and am very picky about who cuts my hair but i have to say i am now more than prepared to go a little out my way to visit Brians barbershop to receive a better cut and better treatment for half the money that i was paying the salon.
Brian is an exceptionally friendly guy who takes his time to give you the best cut possible and has created a very welcoming atmosphere for all his customers from the moment you walk in the shop to to the moment you leave.

Great little shop! The atmosphere is unpretentious and welcoming. Mr. Hurson does great work. Well worth a trip to the end of the Queen line.

I had actually found Brian while scrolling through pictures of the barbershop Brian previously worked for before pursuing his own venture, and was absolutely blown away by the photos he had posted of clients’ cuts. When I found out that he was opening up just down the street from my place, I knew I had to check it out.
The Resurva booking system is fantastic because I can easily see exactly what times are available, as well as having the ability to cancel and reschedule within seconds. The barbershop is typical old school which in reality is quite charming. There is no pretentious design or stuck up feeling here. The best part is often coming through the door and chatting with Brian and his current client as you wait for your turn. The conversations are always quite interesting and even for someone in their very early twenties, I always love spending 30 – 45 mins at the barbershop chatting as Brian does his work.
The haircuts are absolutely unbelievable. The cuts go way beyond anything you have ever experienced and his attention to detail is remarkable. Brian had posted on Instagram a few months ago that his goal is to ensure that the haircut looks just as good grown in (in two weeks), as it does when it’s fresh.
At the end of the day though, it’s Brian who makes the shop what it is. I’ve yet to meet someone so humble and he goes above and beyond for his clients. I had asked him if people tend to shave in their part after a week or so once it grows in. Brian told me not to bother, and to just come in whenever I needed the part to be re-​shaved in. I’ve asked barbers in the past for something small like that, and most will say they are too busy, etc.
Brian is one of the best in Toronto and if you truly appreciate a fine hair cut and service that goes above and beyond, I’d suggest you give him a shot. All you should do is take a look at the Nite Owl’s Instagram and look at the incredible work he does.

I saw The Nite Owl Barber Shop on a blogTO article promoting the business and decided to tell my fiancé who has been searching for a barber for a couple of years now. To say the least, the search ended this Friday after the wonderful experience we had.
The ambience is great. It really reminds you a barber shop from the old days. The actual place itself is a restored barber shop that was closed for the last 10 years. Brian the main Barber and owner of the shop recently restored it. He’s been open for the last 6 weeks and his client base is already great. The day we were there he had back to back appointments.
The service itself is great, it’s very personalized because Brian does all the cuts and there is generally only 2 – 3 people in the store at once. So everyone gets to know each other while waiting and sitting.
My fiancé was very satisfied with his cut, he has been to several barbers like I mentioned before but this time was the first time he left feeling 100% satisfied. He even got some product that Brian recommended as it worked great with his style.
The price is reasonable, the location is in the quaint up and coming neighbourhood of long branch.
Definitely worth checking out if you’re looking for a unique affordable experience with personality and a great cut or shave!
