I attended a private event at Sopra Upper Lounge on Tuesday evening, December 15th2015. I foolishly thought my coat with belongings was safe in their coat check. As I tried to leave at the end of my night, my coat and IPhone was gone from their coat check. Between my Canada Goose coat, Iphone5s, and other items in it, including medicine, the total value of my properties stolen is $ 1,867.00. not to mention the mental anguish I’ve suffered as a result of both the theft, as well as Sopra’s unwillingness to assist in retrieving my belongings. The owner Paulo, repeatedly requested that I not involve the police, assuring me that although the coat check was operated by the event organizer that night, the theft was caught on security video, and Paulo would personally do everything within his power to retrieve my belongings. Again, I foolishly trusted that the owner Paulo, would fulfil his promise, to at the very least supply me the video of the theft, if he was unable to retrieve my coat and IPhone along with my other belongings. Sadly the owner and bar staff have chosen to ignore my multiple phone messages over several days, and they’ve done nothing but give me the run around. I strongly suggest that you not support this business, which feels no remorse in supporting thieves who blatantly and heartlessly steal from their patrons, only a week away from Christmas. If you must attend any event at Sopra Upper Lounge, do yourself an emense favour and do not trust your belongings to their coat check. However, if your belongings are stolen from their lounge, involve the police immediately, because I can assure you that any promises they give you of cooperation or assistance in retrieving your stuff, are hollow promises indeed. These fine people sent me(a single female 24), out of their establishment at 1:30 am with no coat, no phone and no house keys, that’s how much they care about their guests. I wouldn’t send my worst enemy to patronage this establishment. Shame on you Sopra Upper Lounge, shame on you.

There was no space in Mistura, so four of us dined here on a Saturday night instead. The place is fabulously decorated and has a very chic but modern feel. It was surprisingly empty on this night, even though there was a live pianist(who was just OK). The food was overall delicious. The bread to start was addicting, and the quality of the olive oil and vinegar was high. I had the daily special, a grilled calamari platter, to start. Loved it! The tomato-based sauce that the calamari were served with had all of us licking up the dish. I’m not sure what exactly it was but it was incredible. For the main, I had the duck confit dish — a very generous portion of tasty duck sitting on top of some mouth-watering potato gratin. Others had the beef tenderloin which they both enjoyed(although at over $ 40 it darn well better be amazing!). One of us had the wild boar ravioli, and I heard that the cherry sauce was wonderful, although there wasn’t much taste to the boar itself. For dessert, we had tiramisu all around. It was amazing! It was very different from tiramisu I’ve had in the past, with the ladyfinger cookies being on the dry side, but we all loved this innovation on the recipe. The service was solid, although at the start a bit overbearing. We were asked about 3 or 4 times by 3 different servers if we were ready to order our food. I got the sense they were trying to rush us a bit, although it could have been the fact that there doesn’t seem to be just a single waiter serving you, and that there wasn’t enough communication between them.

This is Chef Massimo Capra’s baby, and with Mistura down-stairs one would expect better. The ambiance was interestingly a balance of classy, mixed with youthfully under dressed female 20-something year olds and older men. A large piano took helm at the front and on this occasion, the very touchy-feely Trevor Gowan played and sang at the keys. Our appetizer of scallops was tasty, however, my sea bass(from where I’m not sure) was delicious in itself, but made bland by the sliced radish ornament on top of it. Really a good piece of fish with the wrong accompaniment. My partner’s striped sea bass was a colourful hunk of meat, that exuded goodness but disappointed the palate. Paired with a bitter radicchio, it really was rather awful. Dessert was unmemorable. A chocolate something or other that thankfully, didn’t offend.

This place was amazing. I was taken here for an occassion, either my birthday or valentines day. The food is amazing. I had the cornish hen. It is a very upscale restaurant /lounge which is above Mitsura. The décor is fabulous, the space is intimate, we listened to live music while we had bottles of champagne on ice, it was beautiful. Later on it becomes kind of a party atmosphere. This is a mid 30’s to 40’s range, but classy, clean, stylish place.

My partner and I went to Sopra with high expectations as the place was highly recommended by a foodie friend of ours, plus the menu looked promising on the restaurant’s website. Here’s why I decided to give 3 stars. We started off with a complementary basket of assorted breads — somewhat tasty, but a little greasy for our taste and did not offer the fresh-out-of-the-oven pleasures that we’ve experienced at similar restaurants. We then moved on to an appy of Kobe Beef Sliders. No complaints here — patties were juicy and retained the original flavour of Kobe beef; the buns were topped with cherry tomatoes for good presentation. Other than the small portion(2 miniature burgers), we quite enjoyed this dish. Following the sliders we ventured on to a pasta dish that packed in buttery flavours complementing the lobster pieces along with leak and plenty of parsley. Though my partner found the noodles to be slightly undercooked, I quite enjoyed the chewy texture and thought it was cooked just right, al dente style. Again, the portion was on the small side, but the flavours were wonderful. The third and last dish we tried was the Sea Bass, served on a bed of diced potatoes sauteed in leeks, sprinkled with marinated cherry tomatoes and olives. The fish was very tender and juicy, wrapped in its crisp, pan-seared skin. The potatoes were a little lacking flavour and the whole dish was in need of a touch more seasoning, but the portion for this dish was satisfying. Overall we did enjoy the food but found the price and the portion/taste of the dishes to be at a bit of a mismatch. We did very much enjoy the live music and the excellent service.
