The quality of the produce here is great but the prices are a little steep. $ 2.50 for an avacado, $ 6.50 for a pint of strawberries? Ouch.(Strawberries were from Ontario, but still…) $ 4.00 cantaloupes and $ 7.00 pineapples? Quite pricey. It was $ 3.50 for a wedge of watermelon here and I saw the same size wedge for $ 1.00 at another place on Kensington Ave. There are other fruit & veg stores in the market with comparable products for more reasonable prices.

My other go-to produce store in the market because it’s a little closer to home and if I’m feeling lazy to walk to the other side of the market. On a very hot or very cold day, it does make a difference in how far I would walk to get groceries which is odd since I run outdoors in all weather, you would think I can walk a few extra blocks, but I don’t. Please don’t judge me! Oxford offers fresh fruits at comparable and sometimes less expensive than their competitors in the market. Always lots of fruits and vegetables available, but has little spacing to walk around the store and now with the windows and doors closed it definitely feels claustrophobic. Luckily, I shopped on a Friday afternoon and it wasn’t busy at all. I was in an out rather quickly, plus the cashier was fast as usual. Yes, the customer service is not usually friendly, but they are very efficient of packing groceries quickly while taking payment and at times have two registers going at the same time. Now that’s multitasking!

Of all the fruit stands in Kensington Market, Oxford stands out to me as by far the best!(It’s no grocery store-style clean fresh bright produce section though…) I always head to Oxford for my produce needs — the staff are helpful(they will give you boxes if you’re about to move!), though not«friendly» per se… but they will answer your questions. The stand has reasonable prices, and a wide variety of fruit and vegetables. They even have some canned items, and boxes of lettuce(if you’re a lettuce snob like me!). Though there are a few stands in the market that definitely offer cheaper prices, Oxford is the right balance of price, customer service, cleanliness, and selection! You won’t find any rotten fruit here!

Oxford Fruit is my go-to market for produce. Open year round, they have a great selection of everything, decent prices, a highly efficient staff, and the place itself is very clean. They have a somewhat seasonal selection, so don’t expect to find strawberries in November, but come summertime, pick up a heaping cut of watermelon to pair with some feta from Cheese Magic — yum!
