I visited this store on a dry clean sunny day and yes, they ask you to remove your shoes before heading up to the second floor which is carpeted. My problem was that their grey worn carpet looked less sanitary than my shoes so I hesitated. Fortunately they do have those blue hospital cloth slippers. You don’t feel glamorous with them on but hey, us women will do anything to find our perfect dress. I was helped by Racquel who was friendly, knowledgeable and responsive. I visited a lot of evening wear stores in a span of a week and most were not friendly or professional.

I went to madeline’s today with my mom and sister. This is honestly now my favourite store to shop. I got a royal blue ball gown and my sister got a blush maxi dress and my mom got a blue maxi dress. I was amazed with the quality of the service and the variety at the store. The person helping us was christine. She was funny and lighthearted and also managed to get us just what we wanted. Each of us had a few dresses to choose from. And they all fulfilled everything we asked for. She was brilliant and did her job happily despite how full the place was.(Keep in mind we stayed for 3 – 4 hours) Madeline herself was also very friendly. Overall the experience was outstanding. I would recommend this to anyone!

The staff are a bit rude, and not welcoming at all. There are about 5 dressing rooms in total on the main floor. 2 or 3 on the top section where alterations are. The selection is ok, they carry a lot of La Femme, and Jovani, a few Sherri Hill. If you are looking for Sherri Hill more specifically Want Boutique right beside it has more. Also if you are a smaller size it will be harder to find things that fit you, as the dress brands often use vanity sizing(I think my 0 Jovani is really a 4). My Jovani was $ 680 and La Femme was $ 430.

Great store with a wonderful selection of dresses. My mother found her mother of the bride dress here for my wedding. Madeline was an absolute joy to work with and her alterations and dress turned out stunning! We will definitely return for further occasions :)

This has to be, by far, the worst dress shop in Toronto. The selection is very limited. They only have each dress in a few random sizes. The dresses themselves are beaten up and really shopworn. The dresses are priced nearly 50% higher then other retailers(mostly in the US, but still ridiculous). The worst part though has to be the staff. They are beyond rude. I tried on a dress that was too small so the salesgirl starts removing the other dresses out of my fitting room saying«well the other ones will be small too» What? I couldn’t even try them on? I just left. Never will I set foot in that shop again!

Madeleine’s has a great selection of dresses. However, the staff are rude and snobby and only nice to you when you’re handing your credit card over. Before and after that, not so much. I went there to help my friend choose a dress for herself and her daughter to wear to her son’s bar mitzvah. I also was going to be returning there a couple of weeks later to purchase my daughter’s prom dress. When I was there with my friend, the young saleswoman was brusque and abrupt. We were not made to feel welcome, notwithstanding the fact that my friend was about to spend nearly $ 2000 on two dresses. At one point, the saleswoman berated my friend when a dress dropped to the ground. We felt rushed, and she was not attentive or helpful. When I returned with my daughter the next week, we unfortunately had the same saleswoman. I told her what my budget was. When she was going through the racks with my daughter, she whispered, ‘how set is your mother on the budget?’ and proceeded to put her in dresses that were double what I was willing to spend(which wasn’t a low number to begin with.). It was embarrassing when I had to tell my daughter to take the dress off, and when she realized I wasn’t going to go for a dress that was $ 1000, her tune changed and she was no longer helpful. My daughter fell in love with a dress that was a size too large but we bought it and left it at the store expecting to have to spend a lot on alterations. I called a day later and spoke to the owner and she offered to order a smaller size, which the salesgirl did not offer to do, and which necessitated yet another visit to the store. The size down ended up fitting perfectly, but you’d think for a full service dress store that purports to provide luxury service, she would have offered to do this for us on the spot instead of us suggesting it. The whole atmosphere makes you think that they feel you’re lucky to be shopping in their store. Very disappointing. A dress shop of this calibre should have extremely attentive customer service and they should not leave a bitter taste in one’s mouth when shopping for special occasion wear. They the opposite of bend over backward at this store. I know at least 5 people who won’t go back because they felt uncomfortable shopping there.

It’s been a long time since anyone reviewed this store and I think it’s about time someone updated the public. I have been to Madeline’s on several occasions. Each visit starts the same way: Enter store, have owners stare you down, get asked by salesperson to remove your shoes. Honest! Why would I lie about something so preposterous? The store is filled with racks of merchandise organized via colour and size. There is a lot of bling in the store but it does attract many young girls requiring prom dresses. On the last two occasions I accompanied my daughter to Madeline’s, we browsed the racks until my daughter located three dresses she decided to try on. The sales person said the fitting rooms were occupied and asked if we would mind waiting until one became available. Of course we said that would be no problem. My daughter continued to browse while I chose to sit on the bench at the back of the store. Suddenly, the sales person requested that I remove my shoes! What? Seriously? I wasn’t even the one trying anything on! I politely told her«no» and with that she walked over to the cash register where another salesperson stood and I overheard her ask the second salesperson to look after us since I would not remove my shoes! Geez, it’s a nice sunny day in August, my shoes are clean as a whistle and I’m just sitting her minding my own business! When a fitting room became available, my daughter was summoned inside. Again I was requested to remove my shoes and again, I refused. What is up with these people? I really needed to get an answer to this silly request so I asked why I was requested to remove my shoes. I was told it was to keep the off-white carpet clean! OMG! Either get darker carpet or deal with it. After that, the service went down hill quickly. Yes, we have purchased several dresses at Madeline’s but we will no longer return. EVER. Even my daughters were slighted by the shoe removal request as well as the snotty sales people and owners. With many girls to clothe, I do not need to be reprimanded for wearing shoes into a store. Nor do I need to feel intimidated by salespeople. All in all, this store is not worth the effort. The same dresses can be found either at Holt Renfrew, Andrews, DEW, Want, Edith’s and Poor Little Rich Girl. Toronto is a big city, you owe it to yourself to shop where the sale people show you respect and your feet can keep their shoes on!

I went to Madeline’s today in search of a long black gown to officially transform myself in a bridesmaid for my close friend’s wedding in September and I could not believe my luck! It was my first stop in this dress hunt and I found my dress at this store. Madeline and her staff are fantastic. I told them exactly what I was looking for and they immediately pulled 6 styles in black for me to try on. As well, they showed me styles in other colours that could be ordered in black. The overall selection at Madeline’s is to die for if you are a dress lover or need something spectacular for a special occasion. They carry tons of dresses that are beautiful for bridesmaids or mother of the bride or groom. They also have funky and sexy party dresses for the prom or any classy upscale parties. The prices at this store are not inexpensive but you are paying for high quality — both in the dress you are purchasing and in the service the staff are providing to you(both with assisting in the selection process and the alterations). However, I did notice they had a HUGE rack of dresses on sale for $ 99 each, which they apparently have all the time. Overall, I was very happy with the reception I received in this store and the dress I purchased. Now I know I can go to my friend’s wedding and march down that aisle with confidence and feeling great in my attire.

Since my wedding in May I have sent many of my friends and relatives(bride’s maids, mother’s of the bride, etc.) to Madeline’s for dresses. Here, a husband-and-wife team offer incredible service and a huge selection of glamorous gowns and chic cocktail dresses for every occasion. Prices are on the higher end but quality and service result in excellent value. Alterations are done on-site in a timely and precise manner and dresses are available in all sizes and styles. Such variety is hard to find in one place: from high school prom dresses, to trendy gala-wear, to bridal gowns and mother-of-the-bride frocks.
