Loooove this place. They’ve got a lot of kids comics in multiple languages(even Tagalog!), and there are lots of events you can take kids to, especially on holidays.

Review 100! Woo! Anyway. There are few places in the world that perfectly perform the task they’ve set out for themselves. McDonalds moves millions of burgers out the door, but they’re bad food. Other places do a good job preparing their products, but don’t quite get it to people in the right way. Little Island, on the other hand, has great product and does a great job getting it in the hands of the people. The store is a speciality offshoot of the Beguiling, and is a much more satisfying shopping experience than its forerunner. Anyway, the Beguiling often had its name mispronounced as Big Island. Hence, the children’s annex has been named Little Island. I’ve been delighted each time I’ve been in here. Once I went in alone, and found the staff responsive and friendly. Another time, I went in with my wife, a librarian. The Beguiling provides comics to libraries, and they were able to help her Johhny-on-the-Spot, looking up her account and helping her get her books organized. The third time, I needed to get some comics to give away at Halloween(rotting their minds is better than rotting their teeth!). I called them to ask if they had any, and the clerk said they did. Now, I was driving in from out of town, so I mentioned I might run a couple minutes after closing. No problem, the clerk said, I’ll wait. The Gardiner ended up being as bad as it always is, and I didn’t get there until twenty minutes after close. Although the door was locked, the clerk was there and waiting for me with the books. The selection of books is great here, with European GNs(Tintin! Les Shtroumphs! Asterix & Obelisx!) next to mainstream comics versions for kids, and all sorts of things inbetween. It’s not just kids comics, and it is great. Yes, they have manga. I have to accept that that’s popular to some people. Seriously, go here, buy comics for the kids in your life(or your own inner child). It’s good work.

Such a cute little store! The space is small but they’re packed to the rafters with all sorts of children’s comics, books, and goodies. You can find a whole range of mainstream lines like Tin Tin, Marvel, The Hardy Boys, and Archie, but also many, many lesser known varieties. Part of the space is still closed off, but they are getting it ready to do things like readings, events, and kick-off’s. The girl working the day I went in was very knowledgeable. As I browsed she was very engaged in helping a young boy find something new to read. She asked lots of questions of what he’s read and the things he likes, then made some suggestions. Whether you have kids or you’re just a kid at heart, you’ll probably want to check this place out.
