I’m not a big fan of comics, but I tagged along with a friend who is. Like many places in Kensington Market, Kensington Comics is very tiny and a little hard to find at first. We would have missed it if we didn’t catch the little tent sign — to find the actually entrance you have to go down the side of the house. There’ll be a little sign that says«comics» with an arrow pointing to the door. Up the narrow, steep set of stairs and you’ll find yourself in comic mecca. This store doesn’t have a lot of square footage, but what they have is covered with comic books, floor to ceiling. Most of their stock are the single chapter magazine issues — they’re not like a Barnes and Noble that tends to stock the the larger, glossy book compilations. They also stock some toys and figurines. There’s a back room thats easy to miss — that’s the room with the $ 1 comics. When we arrived they had a 3 for $ 1 deal for comics, and also a toy/figurine sale. My only complaint would be that the staff didn’t seem very knowledgeable or helpful. I’m not sure if we just asked the wrong person, but we came in looking for some specific comics — we showed the person at the register the issue number and cover picture, and got a vague response along the lines of «look through the shelves and if they’re not there then they might be in the back room under the bin marked W,» which was not very helpful. We couldn’t find it in the boxes so we just gave up. This store store is literally stuffed to the brim with comics — a bit claustrophobic. If you’re looking for something specific or just to browse, definitely worth dropping by!

Absolutely loved this place! Various comic books for only $ 0.50 each, and jeans for $ 5? What more do you need?! The music playing was great, the guy who owned the place is SUPER nice and helpful, and I just had a blast there. Don’t let the outside look fool you. This place is a hidden gem!
