Lots of great retro outfits here! Good selection of dresses and nice«office» clothes.

Black Daffodil has been a fave of mine for a while. A real find when all you usually find is mass produced garbage made in some other country. It’s really nice to find a store that sells mostly Canadian designed and made clothing, along with kicky accessories. the retro fifties feel of the clothing is very neat. Considering the quality, I don’t find the prices unreasonable. Dresses are usually between $ 125.00 to $ 250.00 at the high end, however, play your cards right and you can often find something at a hefty discount as they clear out for newer stock. I’m not ashamed to say that over the past 2 years I have acquired 5 dresses at very large discounts, as well as gorgeous tops and skirts — you just have to be patient and visit the store often to see what’s happening(ha ha, like that’s going to be a problem!). I love their accessories — shoes, belts, hats, jewellery — I have gotten some real gems for a very reasonable price. I really love the shoes, but because I am trying to avoid leather for ethical reasons, have not gotten any. They keep their store displays fresh, and their window display is always very visually appealing. A really nice part of shopping at Black Daffodil is the fact that no one pushes you. They are always very helpful, make good suggestions for what goes with what, and are honest if they don’t think what you’re trying works for you. Shopping at Black Daffodil is a good thing.;-)

I really like this store for its style direction and selection. I’ve found several pieces I love, including a swimsuit, gloves, and a beautiful dress for work. All of the pieces have been of great quality and worth the mid-high boutique prices. The selection ranges from costume-y vintage-style to modern with vintage inspiration, which is great since I’m not into dresses that look like they’re actually from the 50s, but I love wearing something that reminds me of that era. I love supporting Toronto boutiques, too; there’s a thriving fashion community in this city that I think is amazing. My only reservation is that I’ve usually felt like I’m bothering the person in the store when I go in. While the service has always been good, it’s also perfunctory, almost to the point of rudeness at times — I feel like small businesses should really be more enthusiastic about the people buying stuff from them, but I’ve never had someone come up and ask what I’m looking for or why, grab the stuff I’m holding to take to a change room, or suggest other options. I’ve asked for an opinion while shopping alone and only had the most basic answer. Once, I asked about the swimsuits and was just pointed to the(one, overcrowded) rack that held them — I accidentally knocked over the half-mannequin that was stuffed on the front before the sales associate helped me, and I was the only person in the store! In fact, I’ve only ever had one conversation while I was there that involved more than me awkwardly babbling in an attempt to be polite, which was(while buying gloves): ME: Yeah, all I’ve got are these mittens right now and I figured they weren’t that attractive. SALESPERSON: Yeah [unimpressed laugh], no kidding. ME: …yeah. Honestly, you can order most of the stuff they carry online — they even have their own online store, or hit Modcloth or other vendors — or buy it at other Toronto boutiques. If you’re looking for a fun shopping experience, I honestly wouldn’t recommend coming here; over the last year this has consistently been my experience. I mean, maybe the person who’s there has some kind of problem with me personally, or maybe they have social difficulties? But it’s an upper-mid-range boutique and neither of those are really excuses for uncomfortable customer service. Go for the selection, knowing you won’t leave feeling great about your experience, or order online.

What a gem! I just stumbled upon this store as I was wandering through the Junction. GREAT selection of dresses — mainly retro style. Also really adorable shoes, mainly Miz Mooz. I love their selection of Stop Staring dresses — I easily could have bought three. I bought one and an adorable fascinator. Really nice service — helpful but not pushy. I’ll be back!

This is a very cute shop! Though I showed some restraint, I was taken by the selection of dresses. They weren’t cheap, but if they are locally made and or designer, I can understand the $ 165 price tags. What really sold me on this place is the fact that I got a pair of darling Miz Mooz shoes for 50% off! Score! If you are in the Junction and you’re looking for cute accessories, this seems to be a sure bet.

Looking for some unique and cool outfits? You need to check this place out. They carry some great lines as well as there own designs which they will alter. I can’t wait for warmer weather so I can add some of their items to my collection. Also, check them out on Facebook as they share new stock often.

Why do all my favourite dress shops have to be downtown? Why can’t there be a cute place in the West end… enter Black Daffodil. This place has all the things that make my squeal… dresses, dresses, and more dresses! The store is a mix of retro chic dresses and bathing a la Betty Paige, gorgeous hair pins by local designer Blair Nadeau, as well as rockabilly-que designs by shop owner Cynthia Rea herself. Although I didn’t have any luck in the dress department I did fall in love with a Cynthia Rea original. While trying it on, the owner even offered to alter the design for me(making it a little shorter and moving the stitching to accommodate my 5“1 frame. I’ll definitely be back here… if not to shop than to visit the super cute shop dog Brandy.
