This hole in the wall book store is one of the largest mom and pop books shops in the west end. The staff all seem to have their own area of expertise and when they aren’t helping you find something your looking for or to fit your taste they are having very open conversations with each other or enthused customers. The depth of the store itself cannot be seen from the outside, when you enter you pass the shelving of new titles ranging from literature to non fiction and comics. The whole back end of the store is a rare book section full of first editions and signed copies. Well managed with the right amount of dust for a book store, A Good Read is one of the many stops on Roncesvalles for anyone with a reading hobby. Highly recommended.

gets a meh I have experienced better rating because of the dismissive and impolite treatment I received in the store this weekend. I was purchasing an item but the clerk would only speak to the man down the aisle — was he a friend? was it continual male bonding? were they very busy and my purchase interrupted their conversation. Take my money but don’t even talk to me. Then when I mention it yell a «have a nice day» to my back as I am leaving the store. That was quite rude. Well I work hard for my money and trendy bookstores are thankfully not yet extinct so I won’t be back to this one.

Unlike some people, I can appreciate bookshops that put out books that are not for sale. This is the case with A Good Read– the whole back section is a library of antiquarian sets of Dickens and other classics with a sign that says«Not for Sale»(and under which someone has graffito-ed NOTYET!). I love the idea that the person who owns the store isn’t just selling for profit, but they’re also keeping simply out of love(and willing to share). BUT! That doesn’t mean that they don’t have a fairly good selection of books that ARE available to purchase, again most impressive to me are the antiquarian sets. A great place to go if you’re a collector(hey, maybe you can even bargain to buy that Dickens set…).
