Seriously amazing! The sushi is delis and fish is so fresh. And to top it off the service is stellar… highly recommended!

Seafood is not too fresh, the overall food quality is a par above an all you can eat. The price is steep for what you get. The only good thing I can say is great service, the waitress is really friendly and nice.

Living in the village I really wanted to like Nagano. Have been eating here couple times a month for several years, but eventually the impatient service, the massive variability in the food and the price just grind you down enough for it to no longer be a pleasure. They have a captive village clientele and they know it.

I’ve eaten at this sushi place about 3 or 4 times now. The only thing that stops me from going more often is the price. I am comparing their prices to the sushi restaurants I used to frequent downtown Vancouver, and I would say that for an order of sushi for one person is about $ 5 – 7 more at Nagano than what I’ve spent in the past for similar items of similar quality. I wouldn’t compare apples to oranges, and I know quality has to be the same for a fair comparison. It’s not just Nagano, either. Other sushi restaurants within a 2 km radius are also overpriced. I find their rolls are the biggest price difference. I’m used to paying around $ 6.50 to $ 8.50 for a «deluxe» roll and $ 7.25 to $ 9.95 for a bento box. But Nagano’s prices are significantly higher for these($ 9.99 to $ 19.99 per roll and $ 9.95 to $ 12.95 for a bento box) They are around $ 1 – 2 more for most appetizer items. Sashimi(tuna or salmon) is $ 10.99 where downtown it is $ 8.25. I used to eat sushi 1 – 2 times per week, but in this neighbourhood, there’s no way I’d spend that much to go so often. I’m searching for a good sushi restaurant that I can eat at more often without breaking my budget. I just enjoy the convenience of being able to pick up dinner while I’m out walking my dog. Oh well.

I’ve known about Nagano for a few years as my dad used to work in Port Moody and would bring delicious sushi rolls home from this restaurant. A few years later and my husband and I find ourselves living in the area. We visited Nagano with my parents recently one weekend and the owner actually remembered my dad by name and asked him why he hadn’t been around lately! One thing I like about the restaurant is that you can sit in private booths, which are very reminiscent of the Japanese restaurants my family and I used to go to when we were younger. We ordered lots of food: nabeyaki udon, rainbow roll, Rocky Point roll, Moody Fever roll, dragon roll, sashimi salad and chicken karrage. The nabeyaki udon was a bit different than what I’m used to; it had a lot of sliced onion and veggies in it. My preference for nabeyaki is noodles with a cleaner broth to slurp from. I probably wouldn’t order this next time as I found myself fishing out all the onions in the soup. The rolls were standard, very good. My favorite was probably the Moody Fever roll, which featured seared tuna and smoked salmon in a prawn tempura roll. The sashimi salad was tasty and had a spicy kick; I think they use Korean gochujang paste with their dressing. The chicken karrage was also a favorite. It was deep fried but the meat was very tender and juicy, very flavorful! Prices are higher than average compared to the Lower Mainland. Dinner for 4 people with a couple added pieces of nigiri and cones added up to about $ 114 after taxes. It’s definitely pricier than most sushi areas in the Vancouver area, but probably the best sushi joint in Port Moody. Luckily there are a lot more affordable options in Burnaby and Coquitlam that will also do. Still, Nagano is still good and convenient for us so I’d come back.

I love this place for their white chocolate raspberry ice cream and their dinner for two combo! The service isn’t the greatest at times but they have amazing sushi. The only thing I can say is that they do close for an hour which we sometimes forget and it’s super annoying but other than that, best place for sushi if you can’t make you way downtown!

Decent enough; not as good as the original in Coquitlam. Could be cleaner, would be a better atmosphere if they ditched the compact florescent bulbs and learnt to get with what a dimmer does. The restaurant was cold, which left us wearing our coats… You would think that they would take a clue. Maybe turn up the heat and down the lights?

We love that this restaurant is practically on our door-step! The staff is really nice(one lady in particular, maybe the manager? is so great), I love the little separate rooms, and they often give us a complimentary appetizer when we’re there for dinner. I’m vegetarian and but my fiancé is not and we both always enjoy our food. I love the veggie croquette as something different. I don’t really like their teriyaki(like tofu teriyaki with veg) which is a bit disappointing but I’ve been happy with everything else. Their prices might be a bit on the high side but we don’t mind.

I ended up in Nagano last night after looking for a sushi place to eat that was open late in the tri-cities and guess what? They are open until 10pm on Sundays. I am so glad I found this place! It is right in Newport Village, Port Moody. The place has a really nice atmosphere, it is cozy, kinda romantic, nice music and they have private booths!!! Very intimate, good for a date! ;). As soon as we walked in, a very nice lady helped us out, she walked us to one of those booths and gave us 3 menus: drinks, dinner bento boxes and sushi. I looked at the menus and there are plenty of items. I found the prices a little high but as I always say, as long as the food is good, I am ok with that! The waitress brought a small complementary appetizer while we decided what to order. I believe it was salmon tempura, it tasted great and had a really nice crunch. I ordered tako(octopus) sunomono, negi fry roll(it is their own version of the negi toro roll: tuna maki with green onions but they deep fry it) and spicy tuna roll. I must say my food was great! My favorite item of the night was the negi fry roll. My fiancé ordered the yam tempura roll, avocado roll and chicken teriyaki roll(yes, he doesn’t like fish!). He said it was very good and his yam tempura roll was the best he has ever had. The portions are good, nice flavours, good textures and great service. I am not a fan of thick cut rolls and that is why I don’t give them 5 stars, however, if I go back and the service and quality are still there, I might change my mind! Consistancy is very important for a good restaurant. I give 4 and ½ stars to Nagano! ;) Check it out!

I’m was regular customer at this place, I generally went in once a week. I love the location– located right in the middle of Newport village! Also, the prices are decent, the service isn’t bad, and the booths make you feel as if you got privacy. Usually, I order the udon or the chicken teriyaki. I also like most of their rolls(my favorites being the Spicy tuna and the chopped scallop roll). On fat days(lol) I go ahead and go for the Ebi Mayo, also. The reason for my low rating is that recently(I’m talking October and beyond), I feel as if the food just isn’t as good as it used to be. The chicken teriyaki, in particular, is extremely bland! It looks good, but it doesn’t have enough sauce and just tastes plain. Moreover, the udon broth is become too salty for my liking. The rolls and Ebi Mayo are still good though, but with my two favorite entrees becoming unsuitable for my tastes, I don’t go there as much anymore. One thing I must say though. They usually give these small complimentary things. They are sooo good! I enter the restaurant looking forward to these, haha.

Nagano Sushi first began in Newport Village in Port Moody over ten years ago. I still remember when I first started going when I was in high school. With so many sushi restaurants opening and closing, there are maybe a few I would consider best Japanese restaurant in Coquitlam /Tri-Cities area. Shyun Sushi(click), Osamu, and Nagago would be your best choice IMO. Nagano soon expanded its operations to Glen Drive by Coquitlam Center. It is a sign that this place retains loyal customers and attracts new ones with its quality ingredients and friendly services. The Coquitlam Center location is trendier, while the Newport one is more traditional. Both are good and depends which location you are closer to. Nagano Coquitlam, has private party rooms along the back, section tables and a sushi bar with high chairs in the front. Polaroids of restaurant parties, guests, and staff makes the sushi bar rooftop more personable and character. Sometimes if you are lucky, the owner /chef will be in house making your sushi, sashimi or rolls. He is always sociable and comes by for a chat!
Cuisine: Japanese, Korean, Fusion Price/Entrée: $ 10 – 20(dinner) Out of 5…(1: Don’t bother — 5: Excellent) Food: 3.5 Service: 3.5 Ambiance: 3.5 Overall: 3.5 Usually they are complimentary starters… Tonight was bite size teriyaki salmon with house special sauce. Seafood Croquette $ 6.99 Bite size karrage balls with drizzled with tonkutsu sauce. Inside is mashed potatoe, seafood and carrots. Sometimes because they are so bite size that they become a little charred and hard. Toro Sashimi $ 15.99 Generous portion of fatty tuna belly that melts in your mouth. Rocky Point Roll $ 10.99 Real crab accented with big hotate and tobiko. Swimmingly fresh real crab cali roll topped with scallop. Sometimes if you have special requests, they are more than happy to accommodate and make recommendations. Don’t be afraid to ask /be adventurous! Iniri Sushi stuff Crab Meat, Chopped Scallops, and Tobiko I was first introduced to this at Osamu Sushi(click) another one of my favorite go-to sushi places. The chef recommended it after. Iniri sweet bean curd is opened(instead of the typical folded with rice inside) stuff with goodies! Smoked Salmon and Cream Cheese $ 10.99 Slightly disappointed that there were no «cream cheese» type fusion rolls on the menu. We asked if this was possible. Some smoked salmon, cream cheese, tobiko, wasabi mayo Also one of my favourites here is the oranges that are served afterwards. No worries of getting your hands dirty! To finish off, green tea and mango ice cream Also notable: Silk Worm Roll — chopped scallop, tobiko, amaebi wrapped with avocado Chirashi Don — assorted sashimi and rice BBQ Ebi Mayo Black Cod Japanese /Fusion One of Coquitlam’s best Japanese Restaurant Opens Late until 1am Friendly service Two Locations: 254 Newport Drive, Port Moody, BC 2918 Glen Drive, Coquitlam, BC

Oh, my! This fish could’ve been straight from the boat. My mouth waters at the memory. Big chunks in both our sashimi platter and the rolls. The spicy tuna kicks some major ass. Everything was deeee-licious, though. I thought their prices were reasonable — we had takeout for dinner and fed 3 adults well for right around fifty bucks.

Food — some are good, some are bad — price is bad. They are at least 1.5x the price of other Japanese places and there is nothing here to justify such price gap Newport Village as a whole tends to be a bit pricey & overcharging and this one is pricey but quality is mundane… There are lots of Japanese restaurants within 10 minute driving distance from this restaurant and I can’t think of any reason I would drag myself here in the future unless they drastically improved the restaurant– either in quality or reasonable pricing– or both. I should not have to pay $ 20 for take-out unagidon when it tastes burnt, dry, and lean. their nabeyaki udon and some of the rolls are OK though.

Meh. I’ve head better, and I have had worse. While I don’t mind paying premium prices for premium sushi, I feel like the prices did not match the quality, which was, well, meh. The one extreme positive note was the salmon and tuna sashimi — extremely fresh and accompanied by a flavourful spicy sauce. Not so good? The soft, mushy rice on the exterior of the maki, and the mayo-y mess inside. I don’t normally order dynamite rolls, and this one reminded me why, tasting more like a McChicken than maki. My brother said similar things about his yam and spicy tuna rolls. Sad sushi face. :( The seafood gyoza was also a bit funky, the filing reminding me of fish food. *Shudder* So why three stars? I liked the atmosphere, and the service was fast and professional, but mostly because the sashimi was spot on. Next time I will stick to the basics and a miso soup! Happy sushi face :)

The first time my wife and I walked into Nagano, we took one look at the prices and almost left. Thankfully we didn’t. Being vegetarians, it’s nice to find a restaurant that has a separate vegetarian menu. It makes ordering so much simpler when it’s all in one place. The rolls can be a little pricey, but they’re worth the cost. My only complaint is that the staff can sometimes be a little aloof. Like, when they’re dealing with you, it’s like they’re already on to the next thing. If the service were better, I’d give the place 4 stars.

Been to all the local sushi joints, and this one we keep coming back to. Eat in and take-out. They are pricier, but their salmon sashimi is very good; my kids think their cali rolls are the best ever; and the sashimi salad is actually very good value relative to their other items.
