What I love about this place is that it’s open late, especially on weekends for you night owls! I’ve only ever gotten the same combo plate the handful of times I’ve been there. It seems like your typical Westernized Chinese food. But the amount you get for the price is totally worth it. This would be my go-to-place for Chinese take-out until I moved to the West end of Ottawa. But the drive would be well worth it if I ever needed a late night meal. There’s nothing fancy about the interior, just a few chairs for you to wait for your order as it’s take-out only.

Just awful. Egg rolls were dry and tasted weird. Noodles and rice were both gross. Surprised cause I heard this place was good… not returning and not recommended. I haven’t made a review here in years, logged in just for this if that says anything.

Probably the takeout in Ottawa. Generous portions compared to other places especially when it comes to individual plate and their egg rolls are amazing as well. Definitely recommend trying if you are in the area.

Yes really. Perhaps one small step below some of the fantastic eateries in Vancouver’s and San Francisco’s Chin town.(I haven’t been to China or Ottawa’s tiny Chinatown.) I was pleasantly surprised when I opened my first order. The food comes in high quality reusable containers.(I have a collection in the cupboard.) Everything was hot and even the delivery guy was nice. The open ended egg rolls are dee-lish and everything else ranges from very good to superb! Head and shoulders above yer average Chinese take out. Yes, really. It’s take out only, folks!

The thing to get are the open-ended spring rolls. Just get those — they are pretty good. Food is ok, portions are good, but doesn’t merit a re-order imho. I would order these for take out if in the area, or if you live close, give these guys a chance. 3 stars and not 2 because of those rolls

This is as close to perfect as you can get. It only pains me that I no longer live close enough to order take out from here for the last 8 years. Ottawa may not be my type of city, but this take out mainstay is most definitely my type of place. First off, the egg rolls. They are the first thing and the last thing you should and will remember about this Ottawa mainstay. In conversation with the owner one time I was amazed to hear that they make upwards of 10,000 of these a week. They are ethereal. There have been immitators and challengers but never an equal found. Too good for words or stars to represent. I’ve gone back to Toronto with suitcases full of orders that my friends there have asked me to bring back to them. When you bite into them you will be transported into a land of flavors that before you dared not dream of. Order a couple dozen and they will provide you with enough plum sauce to drown a stack of dime pancakes. You won’t need it once the flavor takes over and makes you forget you even have the sauce in the first place. Aside from the egg rolls, the remaining food is also quite praise worthy. The won ton soup is tasty and the won tons aren’t soggy despite the fact that the soup is not their primary dish served. The rice is tasty and not too salty and the almond chicken guy ding also garners attention. I don’t care about those though. It’s like the one girl at the ball you want to dance with. The rest are just distraction before the real headliner

I really found this place to be nothing special, I was told their egg rolls would blow my mind but I was pretty disappointed. I ordered a combo plate(rice, sweet and sour chicken, chow mein), a few eggrolls and a spicy chicken dish. The egg rolls were really unremarkable, they tasted kinda like chinese five spice and pork, and that is it. There was nothing particularly awesome about them, since they were so hyped up for me I was quite sad by that. The spicy chicken dish was pretty much flavorless and not at all spicy, to top it off it was EXTREMELY mushy. The combination plate was ok, the rice was good, chow mein was good and the sweet and sour chicken was also pretty good, although the chicken balls were kind of small and it was not the most generous portion. The décor at Ruby Inn has clearly not changed in years, or if it has they should fire whoever updated it. Surprising, because its normally those kind of places that makes the best food, hole in the wall restaurants. Not Ruby Inn, there are certainly better options around.

Ruby Inn serves North American style Chinese food. As take-away goes, it’s much better than a lot of places in Ottawa. All of the menu selections are tame and westernized, nothing like you would expect from Somerset Street, but tasty and good when you’re in the mood for this sort of thing. There are no tables at Ruby Inn, it’s take-away only.

Ruby is a Chinese food take-away place on Bank Street in that strip mall at Walkley. It is just next to the Shoppers Drug Mart. I have been to China and have eaten authentic Chinese food. Some of it is scary — scorpions on a stick, for instance. But, when I feel like Chinese that is the kind of Chinese food I grew up with and love, I call Ruby. It has zero seating, so don’t actually go there and wait for a table. It serves all the usual«Chinese» food suspects — chicken balls, beef and broccoli, chow mein, fried rice, egg rolls… They even have fortune cookies! Yes it ain’t that healthy. Yes, you will be hungry an hour later. But yes, it is delicious and a great deal once in a while!
