the restaurant is on a corner lot, and looks like a renovated home turned into the restaurant. the food was very delicious, very hearty too, but given where it originates from and their winters, I understand. I had the cabbage rolls and they were like I remember from my childhood days. There is nothing fancy or over the top. Ethnic food and beer to go along with the atmosphere make it a great place to eat, and you can tell very quickly a lot of pride and love has gone into the entire set up. I just wasn’t in the mood to eat there, but someone else wanted to go, and I obliged.

This place looks like the ‘before’ shot from the restaurant makeover show. The pink upholstery, silk foliage, and twee décor look like your Grandma’s place. But, if you are very, very lucky, you also have a Grandma who cooks like lady in the kitchen.(If you do, you probably call her Baba). The food is very untrendy — a combo of Central and Eastern European faves — Nothing fusion and very little that is green but OMG tasty, light perogies, crêpe-like potato pancakes wrapped around spicy goulash, and light and crispy schnitzel are among the winners we tried tonight. Great comfort food for the dog days of winter. I couldn’t help thinking that if they funked up the dining room and served up big mugs of Czech beer, they would have the the trendy and the hungry lined up out the door. The dining room is served by the ‘pop’ side of this mom and pop operation.(Mom is in the kitchen) Pop is justifiably proud of this place. He even gave us our 2⁄1 coupon back to give to ‘a good neighbour’ after taking the discount off the bill. Next time you’re hankering for the best perogies ever, put on your shades to avoid the overwhelming pinkness and get thee to Amber Garden/Dalmacia(lots of parking, and lots of tables — even on Friday night).
