With my wedding coming up in September(eek!) and my to-do list guaranteed to only grow between now and then, it was time to put a checkmark next to «buy formalwear»! My father-in-law to be has been nicely bugging me to go suit shopping with him and I finally got around to it. I guess I could wear one of my existing suits or literally dust off my old tuxedo but where’s the fun in that? He suggested we check out Moores which was just fine by me. It’s much nicer than International Clothiers(obviously) but not going to set us back several limbs like Harry Rosen. So I think it was a perfect choice. I’ve shopped at other Moores locations in the past and they’ve always had good selection, nice quality stuff and again, you’re not going to break the bank. So, you know, nice clothes that regular people can afford! My fiancée’s dad was already waiting when I arrived(damned QEW /403) and he had actually done lots of the work for me, having scouted out the place and catching the attention of a salesman. Once we established what colour I wanted(grey or thereabouts) the helpful and not at all pushy salesman(Doug) presented us with a rather slick looking Calvin Klein number. I tried on a few others but as is often the case, I liked the first one I tried on. Possibly the easiest time I’ve ever had clothes shopping in my life and for my wedding no less! Bonus: It was buy-one-get-one-free, so we both get new, matching suits for the big day! I’m sure they have these promotions all the time, but still it’s nice. They didn’t have it in my size(apparently I’m a 40 Regular, except when I’m a 38) but he was more than happy to order it in. Just gotta come back for the alterations and accessories. Bonus #2: While I was changing back into own clothes, the FOTB stealthily paid for everything! He probably won’t read this but I have to thank him yet again for his generosity! Thanks! So yeah, you’re not going to find Armani or Hugo Boss there but you will find very nice menswear that is actually affordable for major chunk of the population who don’t have two thousand bucks to drop on a suit… and weddings are expensive enough as it is!
