I had tried a few yoga studios in Montréal through Groupon before settling on this one as my home. The studio is bright, the locker rooms are clean, the staff is friendly, and even better — it’s walking distance to my home! I started going to the 7am hot yoga class taught by Anastasia, who I adore. I enjoy that each class is different and challenges a different set of muscles. I get very bored in yoga classes that go through the same series of postures and poses every time. I was a little intimidated that majority of the class was taught in French but(luckily) I know my left from my right and my body parts in French AND I’ve been doing yoga forever so I caught on quickly. It’s actually quite rewarding as a French language learner to be able to follow the class. I still have to peek at the instructor or neighbouring students here and there but it’s not a distraction nor a deterrent. Besides the hot yoga class, I also tried the TRX Mom and Baby. At first, I thought the class would be structured in a way that my son would be engaged. Not so. Most of the babies were… well, babies(and therefore stayed in a stroller or carrier) and my son is a(rambunctious) toddler. While he was intrigued by the straps for about 10 minutes, the rest of the class was spend trying to keep him entertained and stop him from fussing, while at the same time trying to get in my workout. It was a challenge. If I try it again, I’ll be sure to bring some distractions/entertainment for him — snacks, a tablet, a ball or two. I don’t like that the Mom and Baby TRX is not included in the membership and you have to pay an additional $ 20 per class. That’s a turn off, especially since there was no real reason given for why. Honestly, it’s one of the reason’s I haven’t given it a second try. When the TRX class started, I thought the straps were a bit awkward to use and immediately following the class I didn’t feel like I got a great workout. The next day however I realize how much of an ass kicker it was. Everything ached! My legs, my abs, my arms. EVERYTHING. It was great. My only criticism of the gym as a whole is that I wish they had a more robust schedule of classes that fit my schedule. Other than that, I’m very pleased and would recommend Studio Breathe to others.
