Do Not Get Your Hair Cut Here. I called to tell the woman who cut my hair about my bad experience and she hung up on me. She was very rude and when I called back she refused to speak to me again. I told her I would write a bad review on Unilocal, and all I wanted was my money back to get a good haircut because I am disappointed and feel the need to stand up for myself. She said«all kinds of crazy people write bad reviews, do it!» The woman who cut my hair did not know what she was doing, it was $ 35. She did not speak at all in the whole hour cut except to ask me if the haircut was ok. She held the blow dryer in the same spot for so long it burned my head. I had to keep moving my head around to avoid the pain. She also sprayed me in the face with water over and over again. The back of my short bob is really uneven, it’s varying lengths(I hope it can be fixed) and there are no layers in it, it looks more like a mushroom cut, this is a nightmare. The back of my hairline is uneven as well. She asked me several times if my cut was ok and it seemed like she did not know what she was doing. I felt like I knew more than she did. At some point I gave up and stopped giving her suggestions and just hoped that my hair cut would come out half-decent. I was mistaken. I left feeling disatisfied and upset. I went to get my hair recut and the hairdresser said it looked like the hair dresser just gave up half way through the cut” and that it was«a really bad haircut.» I do not reccomend this place at all and need to go get my hair cut fixed tomorrow at another salon. Their customer service is terrible and they are not nice people. Save your time and money and go somewhere that will treat you kindly and with people who stand behind their work.

Other than affordability, this place has nothing else going for it. Not only did the lady do a hack job on my hair, but the place was filthy and the staff was unprofessional. Before I get to that part, let me talk about the hair: I went in, lured by the price and the fact that they were able to schedule me that day. I saw the negative reviews, but I only wanted a trim so I thought, hey, why not? I have shoulder length, straight hair, and I wasn’t looking to change up the style or do anything complex, so I thought there was no way anyone could mess that up. I was dead wrong. I had a photo showing a long bob, and I mentioned how I wanted the front to be longer, so there’s a subtle slope from the back. I motioned to her where I wanted it– right at the base of my neck, just touching my shoulder, which she confirmed by motioning herself. The result was a tragically undeniably short cut in the most unflattering way possible– the front was chin length and the sides were right below my ears. The back was pixie cut length. At first she cut a decent length and asked me if it was okay, so I said okay, then she goes to the other side and chops off a huge amount, so much so that it was visibly uneven. I immediately protested, but she kept saying that it was okay and this was how it was done. She ended up just trimming and trimming until all my hair was gone… This was nothing like what I asked for and I have no choice but to wear a lot of hats and grow it out… Now the place. When I got there, there was no one in the salon. I sat down, and after a while a woman peered out. She was EXTREMELY unkempt. Her hair was basically a birdsnest, like she hadn’t showered for a while and just rolled out of bed. I would later realize she was actually a HAIRSTYLIST. Like really? How could you do hair when your own hair looks like that?! She was also squinting and grumpy, like she had just woken up. Another client came in later to see her, and one of the first things she said was«Are you okay?» Might I add her attitude was just as bad as she looked; the client tried to cheerfully make conversation and she was extremely short with her. Another lady came out later to do my hair, and she at least looked groomed, much to my relief. The place though, has definitely seen better days: there was visible dirt and hair in the corners and along the walls, and there was dust everywhere. There was also a giant fly that buzzed around my head that the lady would just attempt to swat off every few minutes. When I came in the salon was empty, so I don’t see why the two stylists couldn’t have spent some time to clean the place. Also, while I was getting my hair done, the lady with the messy hair would just wander in and out of the salon aimlessly, which was strange. Moreover, it seems like they don’t have a receptionist because my stylist kept leaving to answer calls for the salon, and at several times she would stop just to answer personal texts and calls on her cell. How unprofessional! This turned out to be lengthy, but oh my goodness… Avoid avoid avoid! Not worth the $.

UPDATE: I have been back here for my haircut and spoke to the owner Oleg(super nice guy). For some reason there more than 50 unrecommended reviews on the Unilocal website that are 5 stars that are not showing up.(all the way at the bottom) I like the service here so I highly recommend checking them out before judging this place out. :) Ive been this hair salon a couple times and was surprised with so many negative reviews. Firstly I’m a guy and have a longer style more«complicated» haircut. Here is my feedback. 1. I agree that the guy is better than the woman because he spends more time and has a little bit more style let’s say but she has always done a good job for me. 2. Its NOT toilet paper ;) 3. Tools seem perfectly fine to me and the hair washing was more than fine. If you expect a deep tissue brain massage than go somewhere else. 4. Sure there’s a small language barrier but they are very friendly and understand what you say unlike some of the closer Asian ones(no offense) All in all, a nice haircut for guys. Does the job and for 15 $ you get good value. You get hair washed and all and if you like a good salon without any bells and whistles this is a great spot.

I have to say, this is one of the worst haircuts I’ve received in a long, long time. The lady who cut my hair apparently had no understanding of what I wanted. She was very rushed while cutting. It literally felt like a hack job. The only positive I can take from all this is that the cut only cost $ 15. Also, it was cut way shorter than I wanted, so I can probably go an extra month without needing a cut. Bottom line, save yourself the trouble and stress, pay a few extra bucks and find a place that will actually give you a decent cut.

Terrible hair cut and colour. I had my roots coloured and in no way does it match the rest of my hair. Every other salon I have been to in my life does a wonderful job of matching the colours quite well. The worst part… the cut. Please Please! Do not go here if you want a haircut. I have spent years growing my hair. I asked for 1 inch to be cut off. About 5 minutes later she had cut off 5 inches and it was too late for me to realise as she did most of it at the back. I am so furious at what she did to many years of growing my hair. And yet, even the cut itself is disgusting. Absolutely no shape, the lengths are uneven, she told me she would layer it and there are no layers. Please, just don’t go here unless you want to take a huge risk. It’s a 50⁄50 place I think

I just got the Worst haircut of my life here. Even worse than when i was 14 and my aunt took me to get a 5 $ cut in Chinatown. In fact, i got this haircut 5 minutes ago, i decided to write this review immediately in hopes that perhaps i could save someone from what happened to me. I step into this salon, after seeing some nice pictures on their website. Sure there were some bad reviews on Unilocal, but i thought maybe it could be good. Looking back, i was naïve. I start explaining to my hairstylist exactly how i wanted my hair done, exactly. After years of fussing with my hair i knew what styles and cuts look good and bad on me and i was sure to tell her this. She kept saying«ok, sure, yes». She washed my hair, and from the weird way she was washing my hair i started to suspect that she wasnt a trained hair stylist. I felt like a kid was spraying water at my head. Then she started cutting. I felt good because she assured me she would not cut too much. Ok. Then this is where the nightmare started. She grabbed a chunk of my hair and asked how short. I said not short. Ok… She shows me that she’ll cut 3 inches off… I said No! I want it long! Thats when she asked if i speak french, but even her french was broken. I tell her, i want it long, and i think at that point she decided she got tired of trying to understand me that she quickly cut an even bigger huge 4 inch piece of my hair off. She did it so quickly, i was in shock. No way to stop her. I was horrified. At that point i chose to let her finish layering my hair instead of walking out with a 4 inch piece of hair missing. At the end, the hair cut was everything that i didnt want and more. The truth is she doesn’t speak English and she was saying yes even if she didn’t know wtf i was saying. She just cut whatever she felt like cutting. What kind of evil hairstylist does this??? And the cut is bad, its uneven, choppy, some layers are chunky and it honestly is the Worst hair cut of my life. I tried to assert myself and asked her why she pretended to know what instructions i was giving re my hair? It was futile, she looked confused as i expressed my dissappointment. The moral of the story is that you get what you pay for. I paid $ 20 yes, but i will spend $ 60 tomorrow to get it redone elsewhere, and will wait 6 months to grow out my hair.

Ok well I booked an appointment on feb.15 at 3pm. I took the time to book an appointment like 10 days in advance. I called them at 2:45pm to let them know i might be late of about 10minutes. I got there at 3:03pm so I wasn’t that late, and the lady told me, sorry we’re running late, come back at 5pm. … like seriously ?? I had to get my hair done at 3pm because it was my birthday and she told me to come back at 5pm !?! How unprofessional is that !? Bad bad bad bad service.

I had the worst experience here. I don’t recommend this place to anyone I wanna cry. But here’s why 1– lady who cut my hair did not speak English very well. 2– she told me to wait 5 minutes so she could go smoke and come back smelling like cigarettes(and I think she was pregnant) 3– I showed her multiple pictures of what I wanted my hair to look like and she STILL butchered it. 4– the place was dirty and was not at all professional(I don’t know what these google reviews are all talking about) 5– I felt like I knew more about hair than she did. 6– she can’t wash hair for shit and she brushed my hair soo hard I could go on but she sucked soo much and the place was sketch. I should have trusted my gut and not cut my hair there the second I stepped in. The only good thing about it is that I paid 20 $. And I regret tipping. Don’t go here. That is all. Sincerely, angry client with ugly hair.

That Slij is owned and operated by a European stylist is reflected in the atmosphere and experience. The staff is stylish, attentive, and has a great eye for what styles work best with your complexion and face shape. The prices are also low because Slij just recently opened, so that definitely worth taking advantage of before everyone discovers it and demand drives up the price. It’s also conveniently located downtown and open late 7 days a week — perfect for anyone with a hectic schedule.
