2.5 Came here for lunch today. It caught our attention because there’s not that many places you can get soups on this area. It’s mostly just Japanese, Burrito or Falafel places. At 11:45am, we were the first customers. They had 4 different soups including a chunky garden vegetable, turkey and rice, beef noodle and chicken noodle. To be honest, they all looked good and fresh, but also very much like Campbells soup. I’m not sure, I’m just saying. For $ 6.95 you can get a huge bowl soup that comes with bread. For $ 7.95 you can get a sandwich on a fresh bun with toppings such as sauce, fresh onions, mushrooms and peppers. For $ 10 something, you can get a combo of soup and sandwich. There were also some hot food choices, but looked no different from the cafeteria food in my office. The Sandwich options ranged from chicken, pulled pork, grilled veggies. You can get them on a big cibatta cheese or onion bun, or you have a choice of a wrap. A good point that my co-worker made, was the although the bun was fresh, it looked(and tasted) like stuff you can get at the grocery. There were no whole wheat options. The sandwhich was yummy, but nothing unique I would come back for. I also asked if I could have my bun toasted, and she said no. They have a toaster, which wasn’t installed yet. They’ve been open for a year — just saying. The place itself is nice. They have big communal tables, seems good for a casual big group meeting. I like the wooden floors, and the décor. It’s clean and modern, without being trendy. There are metal chairs and tables at a good size, but my bum hurt after a while. It’s serve yourself, but not sure if it’s clean after yourself either. I can see that with one person working, tables might leave with empty plates and be neglected for a while. The company that runs this café, also has a catering company and the office is right in the dining area, I’m not sure why. At some point the photocopier was running. I did not like the fact that the soups were on this extremely high countertop, where I had to stand on my tippy toes to lift the lid and take a look see with the ladle. Would I come here again? Meh, it was nothing special. Probably not, with Porta Via in proximity, we’d rather go there.
