Love their breakfast — I always get the «big breakfast» — a few slices of bacon, a couple sausage links and a brazed slice of ham, 3 over-​easy eggs, home fries (THE BEST!!!) and toast.
Really can’t say enough about the home fries! I know there’s paprika in them, but I’d love to get their recipe… SO AWESOME! :)
Also love their banquet burger and fries. Hot beef and turkey sandwiches are great as well.
This is now my go-​to breakfast place.

Good, slightly dated diner with all-​day breakfast. The club sandwich was delicious and the breakfast food on other customers’ plates looked delicious too. The staff are very friendly, recognizing the locals by name and conversing while still managing the rest of the store. As you can see from other photos, they use frozen McCain crinkle cut fries, which really ruins what could be a 4+ star diner if they used fresh-​cut fries!

I went here a couple of weeks ago and the service was absolutely horrible. Food was good, so we decided to give it another try this past weekend for a chance to redeem itself. The service this time was even worse. We waited 15 minutes just to get coffees and the lady still forgot our water. The food also took about 25 minutes and we ordered eggs, bacon and toast. Thisnuse to be a regular spot for me, but i cant stand the service. Never will I be going here again.

This was mine and my wives first time here. The waitress was fantastic and the food was awesome. The prices were very inexpensive! Must try!

I LOVE this place. Traditional greasy spoon food done well.
The lunch offerings aren’t great, but Checkerboard really shines at breakfast time. Eggs are cooked perfectly over-​easy and the homefries are unbeatable. It’s the best $ 6 breakfast you can find in KW.

Mike is the most friendly server in town. This is a nice place with simple food where I felt very welcome. I had a great chicken club and a few cups of coffee. I think I’ll be a regular here.
