Really nice cozy little pub on Augusta. The menu is definitely focused — they have a good selection of burgers — some pretty creative, along with a few seafood focused dishes like an excellent po-boy sandwich. For the most part, you’re getting exactly what you expect when you look at the menu — but everything is executed very well. A perfect place to stop by for lunch.

The Ship has lovely décor on the inside and very nice staff. I was torn between the fish and chips and the crab poutine, but opted for the poutine. This dish is best shared because the flavour can get boring after a couple bites. It comes with bits of crab and cheese curds topped with their clam chowder. The clam chowder is overpowered by dill and the crab bits are hard to differentiate with so much going on. My fries were also undercooked so that didn’t help the situation either. I ended up scrapping about half of it. My friend got the side clam chowder with a burger. She too found the chowder to have too much dill. It seriously was like a dill soup but with a lot of clam. She thoroughly enjoyed her burger so I’ll definitely stick to that next time swing by.

Went in for some drinks and a bite to eat with a friend. Upon entering the crowd seemed loud and obnoxious, guys making rape jokes and all that stuff. Ordered the wings as appetizers, serving size was mediocre(7 wings), got them coated with smoky BBQ, sauce was pleasant but lacked depth. Service speed was decent(I’d give it a 6⁄10). Food came on time, although our drinks took a bit to come. For dinner I ordered the fish tacos and for the most part they tasted mediocre. My friend had the Mexican burger and it tasted great. Would give this place another try.

Fantastic craft beer selection and great service. Burgers and fishbtacos are also excellent. Definitely one of best pubs in Hamilton.

Went here recently for a family birthday. The food was pretty delicious. I had the crab po boy with an arugula Caesar. The others had the full size Arugula Chicken Caesar Salad and the Perch Fish and Chips. The salads were fresh and the flavour nicely balanced. I appreciated the Parmesan and crisp bacon. The Po Boy was an excellent portion and the crab meat was not too floury. The venue itself is very cozy and well decorated. The prices were reasonable for the portions. A few downsides: 1) The fries were covered in salt — we had to shake the salt off of them! You could see the extraneous salt on the fries! 2) The perch was cooked well, but underseasoned 3) The waitress failed to mention that replacing a side costs an extra $ 2.50. 4) There was no birthday treat even though we dined on the day of the birthday — I would have expected a free drink or something.

Came for brunch with my family after seeing a write-up about their burgers on BlogTO. We were impressed. Service was friendly and fast. Ambiance is good(hip without being pretentious), though we did find it a tiny bit loud. The place was packed. Food came quickly and it was very good. Two of us ordered from the brunch menu, one from the regular menu. All of us were happy with our choice, generous servings without being too much food. And the price is right. We will be back here for sure.

Recently visited The Ship after another place my friend and I wanted to go to had a wait line of 40 minutes. The place was rather small although it had a downstairs sitting area and an upstairs sitting area. We ordered two mains and with a check in on Unilocal we also received an appetizer for 50% off! The appetizer we chose were crab cakes and they were good. Probably wouldn’t get it for the regular price but since we had 50% off it was okay. I ordered the fish tacos and they were really good. The fish was fresh. My friend ordered the Hawaiian Burger with sweet potato fries. She thought the pineapple part of the burger was good but the actual burger part was not the best. Personally, I did not like how the sweet potato fries were too salty and the sauce was sour. Overall, The Ship is a good place to go if you are just hanging out with some friends. I would recommend it to anyone who is a huge fan of seafood. If you’re not a huge fan of seafood, then this place is just average.

I’ve been wanting to check this place out for awhile and finally got around to it last night. I emailed them through Unilocal the day before to ask about parking and reservations and they replied within 30 minutes – impressive. The paid parking is on the street with meters, or a private lot nearby that you have to pay at. We arrived on Saturday evening around 6:00, it was pretty busy. The hostess took our name and told us about 15 minutes. We ordered some wine at the bar(house wine only) and waited. This place looks pretty cool inside with a rustic look to it. It’s pretty noisy with lots of chatter from the tight quarters. The space is very narrow, but there is a second floor, which is where we were seated. It was also noisy, but not as bad as the first floor. They gave us a mini booth which was a bonus. Our waitress named Michelle quickly greeted us and was super friendly. We told her it was our first visit and she filled us in on the most popular burgers that they’re know for. I went for the Greek burger with a garden salad instead of fries and my date ordered the perch fish and chips. The food came out within 20 minutes. The salad was good with crisp vegetables and a nice house balsamic vinaigrette dressing. Unfortunately the top and bottom of the Greek burger was burnt black and the beef patty fell apart easily as I picked it up. It tasted okay. The fish from the perch and chips was dry. They gave lots of fries. The highlight of the experience was the good service, but the food was a bit of a let down.

Where can I start ? This has got to be one of he best restaurants I’ve ever been to. I’m disappointed in myself; the past two times I’ve visited, I’ve forgot to take pictures ! I’ve tried the French onion burger, and the lobster poutine, and it was mouth watering brilliant. The burger was perfectly cooked, with an amazing kick of spice(requested). It has to be hands down, one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. Kudos to the Chef and management for such unique creations and creative display. The crab poutine was spectacular. It had a perfect amount of flavour, and the portion was Enormous. I could take my friend and split it with them, and feel relatively full afterwards. Service here is always great. You can expect welcoming staff with a big, genuine smile. Hey appreciate your business and reviews, and if I could give them a 10 star review I would. 10⁄5 star

The best part of this place was the crab poutine, which was pretty good. Everything else was disappointing. The french onion burger I got was kind of bland and dry, and the description sounded so much better than what it really was. I’ve had much better burgers elsewhere. I think I got taken in by the Unilocal hype more than anything though, as it wasn’t a terrible burger overall. On the other hand, my girlfriend got the chicken fried steak, which I got to sample a bit of it, and it was straight up bad. The menu says they use beef tenderloin, but it was very, very chewy and didn’t taste good either. Think of a chewy, bland schnitzel and you’ve got their chicken fried steak. On the upside, the décor is neat, the portions are huge, and they have a good selection of craft beers. I can see this place being a good spot for students looking to meet up with some friends but for the rest of us they just serve your average, greasy pub food.

Food: –Crab poutine: it tasted like clam chowder plus Alfredo sauce on top of fries. This appetizer was a mixture of fries, cheese curds, creamy Alfredo sauce, bits of clams, rosemary and chunks of crab meat(not sure if it was the sushi crab meat kind or something else). The portion is pretty big so it can probably feed up to two people. –Chicken fried steak: I ordered this dish based on the description on their menu, but it turned out to be too chewy of beef tenderloin for me. It was also way greasier than I expected it would be. Likes: –The fact that they seem to offer a large selection of beer, burgers and other finger foods. –Chillaxing atmosphere –Friendly service –I noticed the waitress using an iPad for managing orders, how cool. –Check-in and get their Unilocal discounts! Dislikes: –We were seated on the second floor near the windows, and from where we were seated, the lights placed next to the sign, «The Ship» were extremely bright, shining straight into our eyes! They should install a curtain or some sort of blinds OR angle the lights away from the windows.

It was amazing; I would totally come here again & I will definitely recommend it to friends. Food, service, environment was all stellar. I recommend the Arugula Caesar Salad with Chicken. Food: I had a tough time choosing my meal but ended up with the arugula Caesar salad with chicken and j had no regrets whatsoever. It was just the right combination of greens with dressing. The bacon was stellar and the cheese complimented it really well. The chicken looked kinda dry but once I took a bite I was glad to find I was totally wrong. The amount of juice in that chicken was unbelievable, I was completely blown away. My friend had the fish tacos and they looked amazing. It was breaded perch on a pita with many different veggies & apparently it was also stellar. Service: Our waitress was great, she was very polite and timely with everything. Super patient with me as I tried to figure out what to order, there was nothing to complain about! Environment: The restaurant had a great rustic vibe; I loved it! All the furniture and décor had a old time, sailor’s theme which totally fits the name of the restaurant. The floors were very obviously renovated recently as were the restrooms. My only thought would be that the seating was a little tight? We were placed in a little spot, directly in front of the fireplace(which wasn’t on of course). It wasn’t terrible, but I found it a little odd.

They don’t honour the Unilocal check-in offer unless you buy beer… I didn’t know you could just tack on stuff to the check-in offer like that. We came in because of their promotion on Unilocal only to have been falsely advertised to. Upstairs looks like it belongs in a frat house. The main level is nice and cozy though but unfortunately no space to sit. Seems like a decent place to get beer and a snack if you can sit on the main level but not for lunch, and definitely not upstairs. In Toronto we’re spoiled with good burger joints. This wasn’t bad but the false advertising left a sour taste in my mouth.

We drove to Hamilton to start knowing better what our province(Ontario) has to offer to the tourism. So we went to discover Hamilton and I can say The Ship made me smile. Since you go walking thought the terrace on the street, you can see that they have a solid attendance of regulars that want to be seen in there. In the inside, they welcome you with a big authentic smile while asking you where would you like to enjoy!!! They have a 2nd floor where the washrooms are located, but also another big more private seating area, so no worries if downstairs is crowded… We enjoyed a couple of pilsners on drought. I fought against my carnivorous self, because their several options of original toppings on their burgers were commanding my cravings. But after knowing I could have a bite and some fries from my partner on crime, I opted for the delicious grilled shrimps with feta cheese, on arugula and watermelon salad… I finished everything sucking every single part of those shrimps and fingers that touched that food… kinky I had a big bite of the onion’s something burger, and it tasted like a loved, well cared home made burger some cool mom would fix for her teenagers on a BBQ day. Congrats for the place, vibe, flavors, and smiles you give to your customers. PS. If you check in with Unilocal: they give you a 25% off on burgers when you ask a pint too!!!

Delicious food, interesting menu with many creative dishes, it was difficult to make a choice! We ordered Crab Poutine and a Lake Perch and Chips. Both were superb! The atmosphere of the restaurant is rustic and cozy, the waitresses are very friendly and provide great service. It is also clean, and has lots of patio space at the front and back. Definitely a place I would visit again, and recommend to my friends

Walking in I was first struck by the awesome décor and wooden ships above the fire place. Then unfortunately when we sat down there was a swarm of about 8 flies that had apparently just flew in earlier and I was so grossed out I almost walked out. The server was really nice and moved us to a table on the side where the flies were not swarming, so we decided to stay. So glad we did because the burgers were amazing! Sweet potato fries were the best I’ve had in recent memory and the chipotle mayo sauce completed me. Service was the cherry on top. Our waitress was very attentive, very friendly and our waters were consistently refilled. The burgers are a bit pricy, most in the $ 14 range but it’s pretty worth it. More of a 4.5 than a 4, but I really couldn’t get the flies out of my mind so had to round down.

Quant little restaurant mainly focusing on seafood a craft beer. It was a Friday night and we were able to get a table out back which was private, but seemed a little dirty. The beer list was good. I ordered the cat fish po-boy. It was really tasty on nice bread. We were quite happy with the ship and would dog back for sure.

We must have came on an off day because we didn’t experience the same thing as everyone else. Food was great. Service? Not so much. When we got to the hostess outside, she told us that there would be a half hour wait for a table of 4. Meanwhile when we looked left to the patio, there were 2 empty tables. We asked if we could just put the tables together and sit outside. So of course the hostess agreed. Our server came to our table looking awfully pissed. Not sure about what, but we proceeded to order our drinks. She brought our pitcher with 2 glasses. My friend asked for another 2 extra cups. Next thing you know, she brings out a second pitcher. We told her we just wanted the cups. She insisted that we might as well take it since she already brought it. Anyways, we got our food in a timely manner. It was delicious especially the crab cakes and crab poutine. But at the end of it, we paid for an additional pitcher that we didn’t order. It was her mistake that ended up costing us instead. Maybe the next time we visit the service will be as good as everyone claims. We enjoyed the food, however the service fell significantly short this time.

I’ve been a fan of the Ship since my very first visit. Its a great patio bar on the very fun and hip Augusta. I originally started coming here based on a tip I got that they served $ 13 pitchers of Amsterdam Blonde. Hamilton lacks truly good deals on drinks and this was a good send. I’m not sure if its still that cheap today, but its what kept me coming back and enjoying the Ship for years to come. I eat here often too. Food is superb. Its burgers sandwiches and pub grub but there’s a lot of variety and they play with traditional flavours. I especially like the crowd and staff at the Ship. There’s always an interesting mix going on. Music is good, they have board games on offer and all the elements for a fun night out.
