The service leaves something to be desired, but they’re very friendly and clearly have regulars here. The food we ordered was very good for the price, and I’ll come back for their eggs florentine again when I’m in the area. 3.5, Unilocal willing.

We thought Steve’s Open Kitchen could be a regular brunch spot for our downtown crowd but unfortunately we were wrong. The food was mediocre at best(in fact, our eggs and toast were cold) and the woman waiting on our table was quite rude and impatient(I promise we did nothing to deserve it). Maybe we caught them on a bad day but I don’t think we will be returning. Brunch alternatives: Red Crow, Aberdeen Tavern, Wimpy’s, etc.

Wanted to try breakfast here one morning with my partner. We walked into the diner and wasn’t greeted by anyone so I had to ask if we could sit down. The waitress didn’t bring us menus so I grabbed them as well. Waited for another 10 minutes for the waitress to come by and she asked us what we wanted to drink. I ordered a hot tea and my partner ordered a glass of water. Took her a little long to bring the drinks over and she quickly rushed away before we could ask to order our food. Also, to my surprise the teapot had no hot water in it — just a lonely little tea bag. I tried to get her attention so I could have my drink while we waited, but she didn’t come back and avoided our table. Then we noticed through a window in the wall that she started to take orders from a table of two that came in 10 minutes after we did. At this point, my partner had enough and suggested we go. I managed to make us wait another 5 minutes to give her one more chance but she didn’t come over. We got up and left wasting about 40 minutes of our morning. Would not try this place again unless they fix the service issue.

I had lots of issues with service accepting a coupon that was given to them prior to being given the bill, on top of multiple mistakes in what I ordered. After sending it back twice everyone had already eaten by the time I meal came in full. Service could have been a lot better.

The setting was casual, quite quaint, subtle, cute and relaxing. however the food said otherwise. my woman and i were in and got a few breakfasts. she indulged in «the farmers» omlette and for myself i ordered«the hungry mans» a traditional all day breakfast including bacon, ham, sausage, 3 eggs, toast and one’s said«homefries». my partners omlette featured onion, sausage, ham and«tomato»… we both dug in to only find two miniscule tomatoes. we brushed it off and thought nothing much of it. however. i began eating my breakfast, i think they took all the components and dropped it into a dirty deep fryer besides the«homefries». black bits and so on. by the time i had a couple bites my plate was sopping with grease. «free refills» on the tea? nope only a bit of hot water added to the used teabag. I’m disappointed and felt nauseous. i won’t be returning. hamilton needs to up their brunch game. greasy spoon

Steve’s Open Kitchen is a cute diner located on James Street in Hamilton. They had the classic black and white tiles with dark red booths. Coming in, we slowly learned that you can choose a place to sit and grab a menu as well. She asked if we wanted coffee(not sure if it was free, but we decided to go for the waters instead). There was only one lady who was working, but she was pretty nice. We ordered to pita gyros for a little more than $ 5 each, plus tax. The gyros were folded in half, which provided more room for filling on the inside. It was fairly cool gyro, I would like it if it was a little hotter, but not super hot gyro. It was definitely large in my opinion. There was the usual lettuce, tomato, meat slices and sauce that kept dripping. Thank god they gave it to us in a bag and a plate as well. It seems like they have quite a few regulars here, which I found interesting because they seemed to know the server and the chefs well.

This is a greasy spoon diner, but not dingy at all. Actually pretty cute. Its always busy on weekend mornings but we’ve always been able to get a table without a wait. Then again there’s only two of us. I’ve gotta say this place has one of the best eggs Benny’s in Hamilton. So good! The service is good, the servers are very friendly but they’re also really busy so don’t expect the fastest service. I’ve been several times and the portions vary. Sometimes you get a ton of home fries/fries and other times not so much. That’s kind of frustrating not knowing but still one of my top places for breakfast! Prices are fair, not the lowest for breakfast but worth it for us. Its still very reasonable.

Classic greasy spoon with a comfort food menu and a few healthier options including smoothies with flax seed. They quickly accommodated our group of nine. Even the other customers were making room for us. Had a delicious eggs beni and they gyros also got good reviews from the group.

Service is very hit & miss, but my boyfriend & I practically lived here on our weekend dates in the initial stages of our relationship & still dine here from time to time. I love their Eggs Benedict because they’re so much cheaper than the ones in Toronto yet just as well made(if not better). Their hotcakes are great, too. I like their clean washrooms & cute retro atmosphere as well. You know a greasy spoon is reliable when it’s been around since the 70s.

Went for brunch on a Sunday. Place was busy but still got a table for 2 right as we walked in the door. It’s small but cute, really friendly and attentive staff. Had a breakfast meal which was very tasty and reasonably priced. Will go again!

My favourite Hammer Town greasy spoon by far. I usually get the three eggs, peameal and coffee. Eggs are always done right, bacon is thick and juicy and the home fries are perfect. Coffee gets filled promptly and service is fast and friendly. Prices are good. Always leave full and never feel yucky. Great breakfast.

Nice place and great staff! Breakfast is what you expect from a diner… Was nice and filling, and I liked it. The waitress we had was amazing! Very attentive, and always refilling our coffee. The coffee was fresh and I enjoyed my experience.

2nd favourite greasy spoon in town, best downtown for sure. Greasy spoon with a touch of style, good prices and food, service is exceptional!

The breakfast was pretty decently priced, but the place is really tiny and kind of dumpy-looking. Alright if you want a breakfast and you’re in the area, but nothing that special.
