So good. From the drinks to the fresh pastries(that you’ll probably take home) to the main event, everything is always perfect. They pay attention to the small details and the food is always something a little different from your normal brunch food. Speaking of small, this place is tiny, so be prepared to wait and squeeze in with you neighbour. One benefit to this is that the kitchen is open to the seating, so you can watch the magic happen.

Stopped in for weekday breakfast they serve lots of yummy French bakery treats such a as lemon beignet & this delicious s’mores roll… very yummy. Split a chicken panini which was heavenly. They only serve their brunch specials(Dutch baby etc) on the weekends. But still excellent choices for weekday breakfast between the panini a and baked goods. They also have a large selection of takeaway meals on daily basis. Will return!

Superb. Super small joint where the lineups can go between 30 – 45 min –but the wait is worth it. Servers are very kind and will offer blankets to those sitting outside and waiting for tables. They also took coffee orders, which is a nice plus when you’re hungry and cranky. My girlfriend and I grabbed our meals to go since we didn’t feel like waiting, but tbh it would have benefitted us more to just wait for our seats since it actually took us longer to get our takeout. Whatever — we know for next time. The meals were incredibly fresh and flavourful. I got the duck confit with bacon, Brussels sprouts, two poached eggs and a nice slab of thick hearty walnut bread. Perfection all around. My girlfriend had the polenta with corn, spices, pork belly and poached eggs. The polenta was super runny(something I’m not used to) but it was hella delicious(Jesus was it hella delicious!). It’s a bit of a heavier option for brunch, so make sure you’re hungry if this makes it onto the menu again. I licked those plates spotless. Will absolutely be back.

This is a very curious restaurant. The vitrines of pastries and all kinds of delicious goodies are reason enough to come here. And you can always buy some of these goodies to go if there is no table which would not be out of the ordinary. There are very few tables here. This is a very trendy place. It is curiously located on a side street in a residential neighbourhood. Nevertheless, the staff are excellent and welcoming. This is a hipster place without the self-conscious hipster attitude. The reason is simple: Edgar’s food stands up to any criticism. Don’t come here if you are on a diet but otherwise, expect to get what you pay for which is this: unusual menu items with rich taste and excellent presentation.

Amazing little place and awesome food. Their menu changes daily and worth it. Had the chicken baguette $ 8.95 and the cake $ 2.95. Would recommend.

Malgré l’attente 15 à 20 minutes, Une cuisine exceptionnelle, des plats délicieux. Une explosion de saveurs pour un budget plus que raisonnable.

Didnt think I was going to get in for lunch as I showed up at 12:30. But luckily the weather was very overcast and threatening to rain, so I guess people stayed away today. Place was still very busy. Only a couple of seats not taken. Had the BLT(lots of meat, and the bread was excellent), the homemade iced tea, and a salted caramel brownie(and another one to snack at home later). Service was fast and courteous, food was great, and reasonably priced. I didn’t give it a 5 because I dont think any BLT anywhere deserves a 5. Would definitely go there again. My only complaint was the food menu was quite limited, which i guess makes sense because they are so small.

I had a gorgeous lunch at Chez Edgar today. Complex flavours, beautifully presented, reasonably priced and a lovely atmosphere. What a find. I’ll be back!

Quite possibly the best place in the Ottawa area to eat brunch. I cannot recommend this place enough. The food quality, service, and décor are all top-notch. Show up early on weekends as the space only seats roughly 15 people.

Saw the restaurant on You Gotta Eat Here, so tried it out last year. Arrived super early, good thing too. Excited, lined up, and managed to get only table for 3 for breakfast. Lovely Chai and lattes to start. Service pleasant, everyone seems capable and efficient. The menu has three items. Two remain the same and one changes. We ordered one of each. I had the dutch baby, a sweet Yorkshire pudding type meal with syrup cheese and a .very… Small piece of was too big to finish , very sweet. Since that visit we have gone four more times for brunch. The menu is still the same two items, with one new dish each time. My dining companion got the dutch baby once and her pork was huge!!! I found each time I went it was harder to get excited because the tiny menu is very limiting. I do not like their constant spicy egg and legume dish, and the baby is too sweet, so I was left with the other dish each time. While all the food is well cooked and beautifully presented, the staff nice and the atmosphere interesting, it is a real. shame the menu cannot be changed up. more often. The prices are typical for what you get, parking available on street, the line up is annoying in the winter, but my. only problem is the boring menu… I guess the thrill is fine, but it was nice the first time anyway.

Have to put it right up there for top three brunches in Ottawa. The food is amazing, staff is friendly and efficient, and it’s a great little space. Have been quite a few times and never disappoints, the huevos rancheros is amazing and so hard not to order, fortunately it is a staple on the menu so you can always try one of the weekly dishes. The space is very small so if you go when patio is closed I would only go as a twosome, anymore than that and you likely will be waiting a while and won’t get to sit together anyway. Great spot to go in summer after a bike ride in Gatineau park.

The brunch here is absolutely fantastic. 3 menu items, usually a dutch baby, heuvos rancheros and the awesome item. The awesome item is usually my favourite because it has some form of meat, a poached egg and various other goodies. The awesome item changes regularly. If I had to order my preference it’d be the awesome item, dutch baby and huevos rancheros. The space is small so get here early and in the summer the patio is open. It’s bit cramped but suck it up and come get a great brunch. The also serve up sandwiches, have food to go and a bunch of pastries, all of which are delicious.

Excellent meal. The dutch baby pancake is something really different and worth a try. Every plate seems to have great combinations of textures and flavours in every bite. Mouth-watering pastries and desserts on display are impossible to resist. Unfortunately, there isn’t a lot of seating here generally, and tables only seat two, so you can’t bring a group of friends with the intent of impressing them with your excellent taste.

Where do I begin lol this food has got to be the best I’ve ever had-I would love to work there for free so I can learn how this chef does it. Moreover the service at the end of the day was spot on!

When i came across edgar i didnt expect what i would be indulging on. Looks like your ordinary café that sells pastry. Sandwiches and coffee. But when i asked whats on the menu to my surprise«porchetta» was on. My mouth drop and waited patiently. While waiting i could see the kitchen prepping for the days ahead roasting vegetables pan frying chicken and baking in the small kitchen. What a view! My porchetta came with a rocket salad. Piled high with crispy flavourful delicious porky goodness! Mashed potato came with it with a little nugget or surprise inside cheese! This dish couldnt go wrong. Great comfort food! Never did i expect this dish in this café! Love it!

I was just offered a cookie that came from here, and I have to admit that it was only DIVINE!!! Now I need to find an excuse to go there in person(here comes trouble!) But please — keep me away from the cookies — if you can! — I’m getting fat just thinking about how good that was!

BESTBREAKFASTEVER! I rarely give a 5 star rating but this amazing gem deserved it. I had the huevos rancheros(which I have eaten dozens of times at other restaurants) and its never been this delicious. the coffee is sublime and the service was cheerful and on-point. We got a sampling of pastries to bring home with us afterwards and I can honestly say I would take a large detour past there on my way home one day to pick up more! Simply put — you MUST eat here. It’s a very small pace but WELL worth the wait… so be patient Foodies ;)

I had heard great things about this little wee restaurant… they were featured on You Gotta Eat Here and then 1 or 2 rounds of Gold Medal Plates — including 4th place in Canada this year(congrats) and finally after seeing a delicious looking tweet that came out friday about a brunch meal we decided to get our tails over there sunday and try it out. The issue was it has 11 seats… we think it may be 14… lol but certainly very small and we weren’t keen on waiting outside this time of year. We arrived at 10:00am and there was one other couple waiting… we stuffed ourselves inside and i was the operating the door for other customers that were coming for fresh pastries and coffee. At 10:15 we were seated and ordered coffees and water… i don’t speak french but i knew #3 was my brunch…2 poached eggs on toast with a side of french toast, beans, potato’s, beef brisket, a pork back bacon/belly(not sure but super fatty, crispy outside and soft inside), brussel sprout leaves, and some other goodies… omg it was so crazy good. the service was friendly, fast and they spoke perfect english… we scored a bar height table with a great view of Marysol in the kitchen working her magic. The size of the restaurant is almost comical… watching the 5 staff dancing around each other was very entertaining. the pastry selection was incredible and we ordered 4 to go… in fact i haven’t had mine yet so maybe i will have to end this review now so i can go enjoy it… it looks really really really good… lol i would hands down say this is the best brunch/breakfast i have ever eaten… seriously ever!!! my suggestion would be to time your arrival on when tables will be flipping…9:30am they open so first tables will start flipping between 10:00am and 10:15 and then so on etc. enjoy this place in it’s quirky crazy setting before the open up a traditional restaurant and you can’t watch the staff go at it less than 5 feet away… actually probably more like 1 – 3 feet away. thanks so much Edgar you rock. ps keep your party to 2 people for a quick seating pps the pastry was awesome !

Great food for breakfast and lunch. They serve the best cappuccino in the Ottawa region. Nice cozy location with very friendly staff. Great options for take-out, too.

This is the best brunch I’ve had in the Ottawa area.(Though I’ve still yet to visit my beloved Murray Street for brunch…) This place is tiny. Tiny. It has 11 seats. We did not anticipate that it would be so tiny when we went with three people — it would be much easier to go as a pair. But oh man, it was worth it. The coffee was outstanding — likely the best that I’ve had in Ottawa. We were greeted in French, and everything was in French, but as soon as we spoke in English the servers happily changed languages, which was a relief even though I’m sure we could have managed.(I know, I know. We’re learning.) The chalkboard menu is small and obviously changes fairly often, but it seems as though the Dutch Baby, which I had, is always on it. And that’s good. This thing is like a thick, walled pancake fortress filled with apple compote, pork belly, sharp cheddar and maple syrup. Oh. My. Gosh. It was so good. As if that wasn’t enough it was topped with a groundcherry, and I’m obsessed with those things. It might be called Dutch but this, dear reader, is prepared in the finest traditions of French Canadian cuisine. My partners in crime both ordered Le Vilain: poached eggs with duck confit, brussels sprouts, lardons and baby potatoes. This was much lighter(in spite of the confit) but very delicious. I wouldn’t have been disappointed if I’d ordered this, but that doesn’t mean I was ready to trade away my Dutch Baby, either. As we were off to visit our friends in their new home, we also loaded up on pastries as gifts(that we would help them eat, naturally) before we departed and they were really good. I can’t remember exactly what we had but I do remember lemon custard filling a cupcake and that being an exciting surprise. This place is totally worth a hop over the river. I hope we’ll be back soon.
