Umi & Co.

My best friend and I just had our eyebrows done by Umi (semi-​permanent). Her artistry is beyond amazing. I have never looked so good in my life. I am very sensitive and she was very careful not to hurt me, so when I was uncomfortable after the first application of numbing cream, she used a different one that made the procedure completely unpainful. And I am a wimp! It’s one of the best things I have treated myself too (and I have done MANY pricey cosmetic procedures!) We love Umi and already have friends who are so amazed by our brows they are making their own appointments!

I found Umi and Co by googling for Korean makeup in Edmonton. It was a little difficult for me to find, but I’m glad I persisted! The owner took the time to try out different shades on me and answer questions about the makeup. I bought one BB crème on my first visit and have bought more on subsequent visits, as well as skin cleanser which has done wonders on my acne!
My only complaint is that the shop is closed over lunch time while the owner takes a break. I don’t begrudge her her lunch time, but it makes it impossible to pop in on MY lunch time to restock.

I visited Umi & Co. for the first time today, while looking for a Korean BB cream since I’ve begun researching Asian skincare & makeup lines. I searched online for local business who specialize in these products and Umi & Co. was the first one to pop up.
Nestled in the heart of Whyte Ave & Old Strathcona, it was a little difficult to find, as the shop is located on the second level of one of the buildings. Look for the images in the window upstairs, near the intersection of 105 Street & Whyte Ave, on the north side of the avenue.
Yumi gave me one of the best customer service experiences I have ever had. While I came in looking specifically for a BB cream (and knowing which ones I was looking for) she took the time to talk to me about my skin & it’s characteristics, my beauty routine and what I was looking for & wanting to achieve. She picked the best couple of products that would suit me and removed removing my current makeup to ensure I was getting the right product, instead of layering it over top of other products. When I mentioned that I was also curious about some of the Korean skincare, she helped me with that right away as well, applying the skincare prior to the BB cream. I really appreciated everything she did; you could tell she is passionate about her shop and she wanted to make sure I was happy with what I was getting. She answered any questions I had and showed me application techniques — something else I loved, she made sure I understood what I was buying.
I walked away with my BB cream, a new line of skincare (Laneige) and some samples (I LOVE that she offers samples for a very, very small price $ 1.50-$ 4 and you can look to pick one that has items you want to try!), however not once did I feel pressured to purchase everything we tried out.
Another thing I appreciated was that she made sure I was all evened out when I left the store… I’ve walked out of many beauty stores looking like Two-​Face from Batman.
I will definitely be back to visit Umi & Co. and cannot say enough good things about the amazing & friendly customer service… and if you’ve thought about branching out into Korean beauty products — do not hesitate to visit Yumi!
