I ordered the Ginger Beef and Shanghai noodles. I am used to some spice in both of them. However, the ginger beef had a red sauce that looked like beet juice with only a hint of spice. The noodles had no curry taste at all and we also not hot. However, the flavor was good in both of them. The place has been remodeled and looks great! Always clean. Not a lot of other customers, but then there usually isn’t because we tend to go quite early.

Went to the Rice Pad last night. Walked into this restaurant @ 6:30 pm on a Thursday night and it was completely empty. This does not build confidence when one is trying a restaurant for the first time! Me & my 4 guests sat ourselves @ a booth because literally no one was around… Looked clean anyway :) My daughter and I both ordered soup & my boyfriend & friend ordered the vermicelli. Well the food was fairly decent, except the salad rolls we ordered, they were dripping water & not completely rolled(so falling apart as u ate)!! The experience was definitely different, quiet… but like the food, fairly decent. Would I go back? Which is the most important question, probably not. Nothing stood out @ The Rice Pad, and nothing made me Want to return.

I have been visiting the rice pad on occasion since it has opened and recently went during lunch. I’ve always enjoyed the basics including vermicelli bowls, salad rolls, wonton soup, spring rolls and peach shrimp. Today I had the lunch special: Ginger chicken on noodles. While it was priced well($ 11.95 plus came with a small bowl of wonton soup), it did not resemble ginger chicken at all. In fact, I don’t know what kind of meat it was. It appeared to be dried beef battered and deep fried, although a couple pieces appeared to be chicken. Due to it being my lunch hour, I did not have a ton of time to reorder. Unfortunately, I will not be back. It used to be a great, quick lunch with great portions, but today, it ruined my appetite.

Service was terrible, and food was not on par. Phở hoan Pasteur is a better alternative if you are in the area. When my food took more than 30 mins to prepare, I asked to speak the the manager naturally. When speaking to the owner I didn’t even ask for anything, just wanted to address the time issue but she accused me of trying to demand a refund for the meal. Made no sense.

I have eaten at this restaurant for years! It has been consistent in its service, and food. Good, «clean» food with generous portions.

We have been coming to the Rice Pad for a quick fix on Vietnamese food. But this time will probably be my last. Don’t get me wrong, food was good. But I have to complain about the lack of Cleanliness, and the way food was stored in the hallway going to the washrooms, and even some things are being stored in the ladies washroom, ya that’s kind of gross to me. Our table was somewhat dirty the bottles for the condiments of soy sauce and hot sauce were all sticky and felt dirty to touch it. There were even food particles on the wall of our booth that were stuck on. The service was OK, but every time we were ready for another drink, the server was behind the counter eating herself. When she saw us starring she came running to our table with this huge smile, and asking if we wanted anything. I really feel like giving this place a two star, but I’ll be a little more generous, only because, we have been here before, and the food was good, then too. Other then that, I don’t really know if I’ll ever come back, dirty restaurants don’t really fly that well with me.

My husband and I have eaten at this location of the Rice Pad a few times but have always found it a little bit on the bland side for flavor and seasoning of their grilled meats in the vermicelli bowls and the sauces provided(peanut sauce for salad rolls & fish sauce for the vermicelli bowls). I also find that their prices are a little higher than most Vietnamese restaurants in town. The atmosphere and service were average — no complaints but nothing to get excited over either.

I went to the new on on 184 street and Stony Plain Road — I ordered simple dishes — Salad Rolls and Green Onion Cake — the Green Onion Cakes were fantastic… however the Salad Rolls were horrible. On the menu it says«Beef, Chicken, Pork, Ham and Shrimp» — and I got them with shrimp and some kinf of LUNCHMEAT rolled up!!! If this is what they consider authentic Thai or Vietnamese — then NOTHANKS! And to top it all off, the price was pretty steep for what I got. Not impressed.

This is a really nice Vietnamese restaurant that I’ve been meaning to go back to. It’s still fairly new; I don’t think it’s been around more than five years. The inside of The Rice Pad is really nice. The décor is a mixture of modern with traditional. The tables and chair are all dark wood with clean edges, and there are a couple of large flat-screen TVs hanging on the walls. Ironically, when I was here, they were playing the Food Network! The menu is quite extensive. There is a large variety of rice bowls, soups, and stir fry dishes. They also have yummy appetizers like spring rolls. I played it pretty safe and got a bowl with chicken, rice noodles, and veggies. It was very tasty and very fresh. I think it only cost 7.99 too, which is very reasonable. Be careful though, because some of the hot sauces sitting on the table are very hot. I tried one of them, and I almost couldn’t handle it! I learned my lesson. I will definitely be coming back here sometime soon!
