I come in once in a while just to browse. I like how organized the sections are, but the front desk is a disaster! Today I was on a mission. I wanted a nice copy of War and Peace. Of course this nice fellow had three. I don’t think the one I purchased had ever been cracked. I’m sure of it. $ 8.00 and it was mine! I tried selling some books here in the past, but he didn’t want any of them. I have better luck selling at the Edmonton Book Store and Alhambra.

Definitely a little more off the usual beaten path of whyte ave but so happy I found this place! I’ve been on the hunt for some beautiful used books for a project and hadn’t had much luck in some of the more popular book stores. This place was great for finding older prints and hard to find editions. It was a little overwhelming with boxes of books around the place and piles surrounding the till but for a true book lover it was heaven. The gentleman running the place was wonderful and polite and I know if there was anything you were looking for he’d be a great help in finding it for you.

The Bookseller is a bit of a hidden gem for those of you who covet scholarly and out of print books. It isn’t a huge store but they stock alot on science, philosophy, sociology, ancient religions, etc while still managing to keep everything neat and tidy. The staff are pretty friendly here and they really seem to know their books. In terms of price as well I didn’t find them unreasonable although I have only made a purchase once when I picked up a book on Greek mythology from the sale section. I am not sure what it is like to sell here but from what I have read online they seem to offer more then you would get for your books at say a Week Book Inn but they also have much higher standards. Also if you have something they are really interested in they are willing to pay shipping or travel to you. This is a great place for sure for those who collect old books or want scholarly research materials but due to the fact I don’t fit into either of those two categories I think The Bookseller is likely going to remain a place I wander into on the semi rare occasions that I am down on Whyte and looking to kill some time.
