I have gone to Art & Soul several times in the last year. I started with Mitch who cut a good foot off and I loved it. After a couple of visits he talked me into a cut to my chin and I’m glad he did. Every colour he did for me was great. I was told he took a hiatus this summer and saw a couple other stylists, David being one. I was always happy with the result… until now. I walked in to an appointment and the man who met me at the door ran over to me and told me not to worry, they would take very good care of me and that he had a stylist that he had just hired, she had lots of experience. Life lesson: when someone tells you not to worry, it’s time to worry! I have naturally medium brown hair but had blond highlights in. I said that I was over blond, ready for fall and asked for darker with some copper highlights, that I wanted a natural look. It turned out even lighter than before. When I told her it wasn’t what I asked for, she got snippy with me and told me it was fine, it looked good. She made no attempt to fix it, just went and did the cut. The cut was fine but again, not what I wanted. I told the man at reception that I did not get what I want, again no attempt to fix the situation, but he gave me $ 20 off. I would have rather had nice hair. When I got home I found several pieces of hair that were at awkward lengths(really, you can’t cut the bottom even??) and a few skunk like streaks when I pull it back. I got the impression that David, Mitch and the old crew are gone. Not sure about the new management and stylists, but I can tell you I won’t be going back to find out more.

Can’t say enough good things about this place. David is an amazing person who puts his heart and soul into what he does. He cares, as was pointed out by the previous commenter. And the fact that I can come back and get a touch up hair do for like 15 /20dollars(?) is pretty cool. …oh…and massage chairs while you get your hair washed. Love it. Will be coming back for sure.

I did receive an email from the owner, David in regards to my review. He wanted me to call and have the original stylist, or another stylist do my hair. He wrote that it normally takes a ‘few tweaks’ to get the style right when one is a new customer. Really? These are supposed to be Vidal Sassoon trained stylists. Wow. He wanted to make my ‘hair dreams come true.’ No thank you. He did tell me at my appointment while blowdrying my hair, that there wasn’t as much volume on the sides because the sides of my head were caved in. Um, I am anatomically correct, thank you very much. Bad blowdrying technique. I could have done a better job than this trained hairstylist did for me. If you go to a hairstylist that claims to be highly trained, and charges $ 65.00 for a haircut and style — it better be a good cut/style from the get-go. I would recommend that people with fine, straight hair not go to this salon, or do their homework.
