Pretty much came here to share in the concensus of how meh this place is. The service is quite mediocre in that you don’t get service with a smile. The servers waste no time in interacting with the cooks though and they get plenty of smiles. This restaurant’s only benefit is location. The salmon and tuna tastes like it’s been sitting in the fridge for a few days. I am never coming back.

The sushi here is meh. Not the best sushi you can get but I have gone there due to convenience and when sushi garden is too busy. Lunch bento boxes are pretty decent for 8.95

My mom contracted food poisoning here. Her test results came back that she contracted fecal matter in her food(yes poop). This comes from employees not washing their hands after a trip to the washroom. I will never go back here. Food was below average anyways.

I have both eaten here and ordered take out over 20 times at Miki Sushi. The food is average, that’s if they remember to pack all the food you order for take out. They’ve screwed up on my take out order probably 5 times all together. Not once apologized or gave me a discount my next time In. My last experience with Miki was a few days ago, and will be my last. I’ve just finished reading other reviews on Miki and found out somebody complained a YEAR ago about the same issue I’m about to tell you right now. I ordered take out a few days ago and when I paid the total didn’t seem correct. After checking the menu prices to my bill, I was shocked to see 4 out of 6 items were billed different. Higher on my bill of course! I confronted the employee that took my payment, and she said the menus are old and their getting newer menus in a few days. This is AFTER I first asked if the menu was up to date. She said YES, and quickly changed her answer when I told her I was charged more. Please double check your bill when eating here… Actually please listen to all these poor reviews and eat someplace with better food and better customer service! Yes, Miki has cheap prices on bento boxes, but the old saying is true folks. You get what you pay for! With so many sushi restaurants out there, you would think they would try to stand out above the rest or at least try to please the customer. NOTRECOMMENDED!!!

We came across Miki after trying to go to a different Sushi place nearby that was closed. I had the bento box which came with a ton of food for the price. California roll, chicken teriyaki on rice, salad, fried vegetables and prawns. The location is nothing special, but the inside of the restaurant is nice and the service was good.

Really bad. Nothing was fresh out of the 5 dishes we ordered. Sunomono prawn was off and the dynamite roll was made way before we ever sat down. Rice was cold and the prawn was hard. Everything deep fried tasted old. Change the oil! Felt insulted by the server when I asked for a new roll and she told me the chef said it was fresh. Never again.

This is now our ‘go to’ sushi restaurant when we’re in N. Bby. Parking is limited and difficult at times. Restaurant is nice and room with lots of space, clean and well lit. It’s actually ran by Vietnamese folks, but they do an ‘ok’ job at preparing and presentation of the food and its tasty aswell. Price seems avg for what you get so it seems fair. Service and atmosphere was also good. Will return and have. Enjoy.

Sorry but this is awful sushi! I went back a couple more times during my lunch break at work and the verdict: not fresh at all and had a fishy smell and taste. They’ve also increased their prices. Bento boxes are now $ 8.49. Totally not worth it for crappy service and food. Also, the previous worm comment just made me sick to my stomach. I wish I saw that post earlier.

I like sushi. I like to try out different sushi place if time & money permits… With all the Japanese restaurants I have been to, I noticed that just in lower mainland, there must be hundreds(if not 1000s) of sushi eateries & operates by Asians from different countries; the authentic ones are of course by the Japanese like Guu, Sushi Hachi, Toshi to name a few. They are always tasty & delicate but pricy. Then comes the one managed by Koreans like Sushi Gardens, California & Sushiful, they are usually fresh & lower priced and the portion is fairly good. The third would have to be served by Taiwanese & Hong Kong & Mainland China like Kawawa, Tentatsu, Matsuyama, Black Dragon Sushi & Miyako… Kinda modified fusion type sushi with average not too bad taste. Another okay one but usually their sushi comes with huge size and big portion is running by Vietnamese like Samurai, Miki. Their prices are very reasonable and makes you feel you get a good deal & good value for your hard earn $$. Fact is you get what you paid for. Simple as that! Now back to Miki Sushi, it is an old timer, been in the same spot for years. Typical Vietnamese type sushi, good service, fair price, nice & clean dinning room, quiet ambiance(an opposite to Suika on Broadway). And I like they have separate washrooms for M&F. I also like they close late at 11:00 pm I will be back. Probably.

Yikes! This is what happens when absentee owners run the business… Went here for dinner last night near closing time and had the following: spicy salmon roll, unagi tempura roll, negitoro roll, chopped scallop roll, a few pieces toro nigiri, and a miso soup. The sushi is better then Sushi Garden down the road, but service is a bit odd to say the least. They ran out of tea! Which restaurant runs out of hot tea — nuf said. Food came quite promptly and presentation is what you would expect from a run of the mill Japanese place not run by original Japanese. The negitoro is not toro first of all and is just tuna with green onion. The menu price says $ 2.50 however, they charge $ 2.75 — the staff claimed that the regular tuna maki is $ 2.50 — hmm perhaps change the price on the menu? The miso soup was pure miso, not one piece of soft tofu in there and they charge $ 1.50 a bowl. When it was time to pay, we had the negitoro price mishap mentioned above plus TWO other wrong prices. The unagi tempura roll was $ 3.95 and they tried charging us $ 5.95 and the chopped scallop roll was $ 3.95 and they tried charging us $ 4.95 for the spicy chopped scallop roll instead of the regular. The lady insisted after the 2nd price change that they could not charge the stated price of $ 2.50 for the negitoro roll and that was a final price and b/c it has green onion in it despite the menu saying it’s $ 2.50 it’s right to be charged $ 2.75 instead of the stated price. Never have I experienced such confusion and mispricing before at a restaurant. It’s sad b/c this restaurant has been around for about 15 – 20 years. Head to ‘Take’ on Hastings and Willingdon instead. Never will I give this place a try. Bad service, mispricing, and no tea — spells disaster… take your hard earned money elsewhere!

Sadly, I did not have a good experience here. Went there for lunch and waited for nearly 40 minutes before finally giving up and having them cancel the order. We sat and watched as a few other patrons came in, ordered, ate and left. We were seated and give tea and menus right away which was a good start. The pages in the menus though, are pretty ratty and probably due for a reprint. The table was also a little dirty and sticky but I’ll let it slide being that it was during the lunch rush. We ordered… And then we waited… I don’t know for sure, but I think they completely forgot our order and only noticed and checked their tickets when I was looking to find out what was going on. By then our lunch hour was nearly up and we just weren’t interested anymore. As for the food, all I can say was the miso soup we had was a little saltier than most other places. The only positive thing I can say is that they were really apologetic and we didn’t have to pay for the soups. haha.

Miki isn’t one of those places that you’d think of going if you wanted Japanese food. It’s not a place you’d really recommend to a friend or even a place you’d really admit going more than once — It’d be like admitting you watch the Real Hoisewives of Orange County. Despite this, I’ve been here several times. Why? Location, convenience, and value. It’s located in a small strip mall across the street from Brentwood skytrain with a free parking lot. Unlike the wildly popular sushi garden down the road, I’ve never seen the place more than half full but many people seem to do takeout. The restaurant itself is an older building recently updated and modestly decorated. There isnt much of an ambience — it’s relatively quiet save for the two tvs which are always on TSN or Sportsnet. The food here is something to be desired. I’ve tried both the udon and bento boxes and they’re just mediocre. The noodles and broth are bland and the sushi is carb-heavy with fish that isn’t overly fresh. However, given the price and large quantities, there’s certainly value to be had. As a self-proclaimed hungry man, I’m stuffed after wolfing down one of the dinner bento boxes. At $ 9, my wallet stays pretty happy too.(I think the lunch specials are around $ 6) They also have a fairly good selection of items. Service can be hit or miss but they’re usually friendly and efficient. For a quick dinner, I’m always in and out in under 45 mins. It’s not a place I’d recommend unless you were looking for a cheap no-frills meal. And no, I don’t watch the Housewives series.

I was in the area, and tried this place in a pinch for a quick lunch during my break. It was either this or the more fattening option of Fatburger. Decided to go «healthier», and had Box #5 from their lunch bento menu — chicken udon, california roll, shrimp and veggie tempura combo. First, the good: — Very reasonable price at $ 7 — Quickly seated during the busy lunch rush — Prompt service — The chicken udon was quite tasty — The salad dressing was tasty, right amount of sweet and acid. Definitely a bottled dressing, not house-made Now the not-so-good: — The tempura was NOTlight. The batter is quite heavy, and I felt like I was biting into a flour ball. I have had way better tempura. This one left me feeling heavy and sad. — The california roll had way too much rice on the outside. It wasn’t the freshest tasting cali roll I’ve ever had. It also fell apart really easily. — The décor here was downright sad. I’ve been to my share of small, nicely decorated japanese places where they take pride in presentig their restaurant with personal touches. This place had none of that. Would I return again? No. I’ll be looking elsewhere for my work-week sushi fix. I’ve heard Sushiholic at Rupert & Broadway is good.

I was hungry and on my way to BCIT so I stopped here for a takeout dinner. I got the bento box F, unagi rice, salad, and sashimi with miso soup for about $ 13 including tax. It was great! Portions were big and I felt quite full. The restaurant was quite full, which was quite a surprise given the unlikely location beside a gas station and a closed down nail salon. A big tv was showing Eurocup soccer game. Service was quick and efficient. I will definitely be coming back if I’m in the area again.

I came here with one of my bridesmaids for a quick lunch between bridal store appointments around 12:30pm. Even though it was lunchtime, there was still a few booths available. It’s not the nicest restaurant by any means, but it’s clean and comfortable. We were seated immediately with two cups of tea and menus. Near the back of their menu, Miki Sushi offers lunchtime bento boxes for $ 7.50. They include miso soup, two salads, fruit, and standard options for tofu/chicken/beef teriyaki, tempura, sushi, or sashimi. For my options, I chose chicken teriyaki, a mix of vegetable and prawn tempura, and 6 california rolls. My bridesmaid chose the same box, but got tofu teriyaki instead. Immediately after ordering, we were given 2 bowls of miso soup. By the time we finished them, we were given our bento boxes. Everything was standard, nothing special to write home about. The fruit portion only consisted of one orange slice, but it was a very good orange slice. I really liked the tempura and california rolls. Where this place shines is speed. Receiving quality bento boxes in under 15 minutes for under $ 10 is fantastic! If I’m ever in the area and need a quick lunch, I’d definitely come here again.

I stopped at this joint on the way home on a Sunday afternoon. Ordered a couple of items including the spicy roll combo, the vegetable tempura and veggie yaki soba. The tempura was nice and crispy and perhaps the best part of the meal. The spicy roll had some kind of a citrus flavored dressing that tasted out of place and tasted like an orange creamsicle. The spicy scallop roll had quite a fishy flavour which indicated the scallops were not fresh. The yaki soba arrived sizzling and smelled very good but it was burned at the bottom. The tea did not taste like the typical tea at Japanese restaurants. It tasted like it was watered way down. Also, beware if you’re coming in on a rainy day as the floor tiles are super slick when wet. Almost everyone that walked by our table lost their balance at some point. The two stars that I am giving this place is because of the waitress who tried hard to please us and the tempura that was right on the money

So we were headed to Sushi Garden after bumbling about Burnaby, but came here instead because there was parking. The restaurant was basically empty except for a couple and a family that was watching a video on their camcorder. We sat by the window away from the other tables. Our server was very fast at bringing us tea. I love places that bring us tea without asking and charging. Since we are gluttons, my fiancé and I each get a box and we share an order of wild salmon sashimi. My fiancé is difficult, so he asks to substitute all his nigiri pieces in his box for salmon. Their miso soup is great. I don’t really like it when there are huge pieces of seaweed floating in it. Theirs just tasted really nice. I can honestly say that their california roll is one of the best I have ever had. Everything about our meal was great. Food was fast, teas were refilled… washroom was clean. I would definitely come back here.
