The ice cream freezer has been broken since they opened 7 years ago… very wasteful. Staff ignore reports. Produce very fresh and bakery very tasty

This joint was built as a Coles Express mini-supermarket and that fact shows. While clean and fresh and airy and all that usual sort of stuff, the stunning lack of depth of the aisles outs this as a far less than full range supermarket. If you can squeeze past all the young guys in tank tops in between gym and the Waterloo Community Pool and those apartment dwellers who love to shop in their jarmies, you will routinely get to the checkouts to discover, mayhem. Have you ever been on the subway in Beijing? Well picture that crush but only this time the punters are shiny pretentious things without much civility and with far too much hubris. It’s all push, shove, get out of my way… Now that after two and a half years living here we are Waterloo ‘veterans,’ we have learnt to limit our shops at Coles Waterloo to bare necessity and sheer laziness. There’s a much cheaper Aldi just across the road in Bourke Street and for everything Asian the Orange supermarket further down Crystal Street can’t be beat. We suggest you can best exercise your sociological imagination at Coles in nearby Surry Hills. There you not only get a much larger supermarket but also a much more fascinating cultural mix, with gritty urban realism defiantly making its final stand against the flood of appallingly style-less gentrification…
