As the name suggests, this place characterizes itself as Old Town Hong Kong. I brought my mum here for a lunch date and she really enjoyed it as it gave her a touch of home. The food was pretty good and there is a great variety but it was a little pricey too.

Located in the heart of China Town Dixon street, Old Town is certainly easy to reach and quite convenient to get to. It can get quite busy especially on general Friday nights with a common 10/15min wait. Booking is available though so advice to book if you have a decent size group. The setting is quite big with 2 stories so a fair amount of seats. The one thing I guess I don’t like about the place is that seats are generally those long tables and hence with a group larger than 6(which is my general dinner size), you might as well be on two tables rather than awkwardly isolating the few on the bookends. The one thing I really dislike though is not the seats, but the food portion. The food does taste decent. Though I won’t call it really ‘HK’ style, I can’t generally fault it much; but man, the food portions are tiny! Given the price ain’t particularly cheap, this really make it a fairly expensive place for some not exactly spectacular food. Been there a dozen of times. I don’t think my perception of the place had improved a single bit. I still go there and I do think it’s a good enough option to go with friends, but no I won’t go there with just my fam. Not worth it.

Got here about half an hour past midnight for«dinner» a few days back and despite my initial scepticism about a restaurant open until 2am, I was incredibly impressed! It’s conveniently located in Chinatown, just across the path from N2. The food is just as good as any other famous dumpling place like Din Tai Fung and New Shanghai — really great quality for a reasonable price. We got soft shell crab too(one of my all time faves) which was great — would recommend that. There’s a huge variety of food — definitely more than many of the other, much larger Chinese restaurants in Chinatown. Their service was incredibly quick and the food came out within 10 mins of ordering too! Not all the staff spoke English but they understood well and were very quick to ask another staff member to help if there was anything they couldn’t tell us. For staff working past midnight, they were very eager haha. Very impressed!

Excellent food and great value. Less than $ 200 for 12 of us. Nothing but great reviews from all. Will surely return.

A lot of good varieties with high quality: This is one of the best Hong Kong cuisine I have ever been to, even better than what you can get in Hong Kong. It is impressive to see the choices you can find on the menu(it is sort of overwhelming). We went there multiple times and each time was a satisfactory result. I especially like the fried dumplings and stem buns. Peking duck buns, juicy pork dumplings, … …, oh boy, I guess I just like everything I ordered. You won’t be disappointed.

Sad dry xiao long bao. Average bbq pork. Overpriced. Staff aren’t very friendly or helpful. Only saving grace is that it’s open late.

Only go every few months and despite being a busy place the main staff remember who we are and the food, service and casual ambience is good. One of our regular haunts now.

This Hong Kong Style café is a wonderful place that has a great relaxed ambience. The menu has all my favourites so grab a couple of friends and try to order as much as you can. i highly recommend the Peking duck baos and the crispy egg noodle chow mein.

I was tempted to give a 3.5 star rating, but a good ratings indicator is whether I end up visiting the place again and I have been to this restaurant twice now, so 4 stars it is! It is small, a little run down, packed, there is a lot of hustle and bustle, loud, and there are often queues — but these qualities are what gives it character. As the name suggests, the olden day theme comes through most strongly in the way the yum cha dishes are served, in olden day bamboo steamers(there is a difference between modern day and olden day steamers!). Even the tofu fa, which I’ve only ever seen served out of containers that look like rice cookers, is served in a bamboo steamer. It has all the traditional Cantonese dishes you could want, even traditional drinks like ice lemon tea and Hong Kong milk tea. Half the fun is looking at all the bustling going around. If you ever go, be sure to check out the waiters’ extraordinary speed of setting up or packing away the china on a table. Both times we’ve been, the staff have been extra fast and have broken some china. It’s all part of the Hong Kong way.

Never experienced a worse service of ordering and paying bills before. A young waiter and another waitress were so rude while others were kind.

This place was awesome! We spent $ 35.00 per person and it was great value. That included drinks, plenty of food, and a great time. The suckling pig was so tasty, it came with fried rice in Lotus Leaf wrap. Good food, good time, and good value. Try it for a casual meal you won’t be unhappy.

70s — 80s HongKong theme: the interior, the tableware … Ha! First impression: I like here! The staffs are friendly, looks smart and cleaned. Ha! I will come back! Omg! The BBQ series is FANtastic!!! It’s juicy and warm when it’s served on the table, if you order BBQ duck or suckling pick, the skin is crispy! Yum! Ha! I will recommend here to my friends!

My roommates and I decided to go here for dinner before watching the fireworks down by the Harbour. I found the service to be ok, nothing really blew me away. When I asked our server about the menu he didn’t see to know much about what I was trying to ask. I ordered the Chicken Fried noodles which was exactly what I expected. The food arrived at our table pretty quickly, it was sizzling hot and were pretty big portions. There was one that wasn’t what we expected and that was my roommates ribs and rice. We all expected it to be much more that what is was. It look plain and didn’t have much to it. We all shared our plates and before my roommate was done the lady came and took the plate away. I didn’t like that because we all didn’t see it and there was still food left to be eaten. When it came to the bill we were shock. Apparently because Monday was a holiday they added an extra charge on the bill. Next I wanted to pay with my card and there was another additional charge of 2%. I didn’t like how there was a lack of communication from the moment we walked in and left. It would have been nice to be told about these extra fees before and then deciding if we want to continue to stay and eat. Poor service in that area

I finally checked this place out last week and what a treat! The dim sum here is as good as it gets and the roasted pork buns are so good, that I would come here just for those alone. And the steamed BBQ pork buns were also about the best ones I’ve had since I left SF: the outside was light and fluffy(not gluey, which a lot of places seem to do) and the pork melts in your mouth. We also tried several other dishes, the sweet and sour chicken(yum) and the Mongolian beef were standouts. Everything we had was great, the service was excellent, and the price was fair. One small quibble, I still prefer the soup dumplings at Din Tai Fung(tried the ones here and they aren’t bad at all)… but the prices here are much better and I am a little«DTFed out» after 50 million visits since moving to Sydney(approximately).

I work in the hospitality field and my hours can sometimes be long and late. Old Town opens till late and the food isn’t boring. They have a wide range from little nibbles or fulfilling meals. The dessert menu is one full A4 page and a variety from deep fried egg whites, puddings and Asian style«pancakes» which are basically crepes with a whipped cream filling and some kind of fruit. I really enjoy the Hong Kong Style milk tea, and there is one that’s mixed with coffee and that’s even better! When I’m hungry and I just want to eat something that fills me up and taste good, I don’t like thinking about what to eat if I’ve been there before. I always fall back for Peking duck buns for entrée and the old grandma tofu with rice for my main. Price is decent because it opens till late. I forgot what time but it’s probably after 10PM there are a few items on the menu you can’t order because they only have enough servings per day. And when it sells out, they won’t make anymore. As for service, there is one man that is very nice and catered to us very well for a Chinese restaurant. I should’ve asked for his name, but I never got the chance to. I will next time but there is also one man that is very rude and acts like he hates his job. Usually you expect Chinese restaurants to offer tea services for free, but WARNING! this place doesn’t. My friend black listed this place because the tea wasn’t free.

Neat fit out — no red velvet to be seen. Food is good but the Xiao long bay were a little bit dry. The duck buns were really good. The har gow were great. Problem is Tim Ho Wan in Hong Kong where I had the best har gow in the world. And I have been spoilt by Din Tai Fung’s and Lynn Shanghai’s soup dumpers. Old Town Hong Kong is worth a visit, especially if you have already been to DTF forty thousand times, but the real Hong Kong leaves it for dead.

Shocking just shocking, just an outrageous experience. This choice was probably one of my most irrational dinning decisions. I was attracted to the hanging duck like a fish to the line bait. HALFPEKINGDUCK There’s so many things wrong about this Peking Duck dish: the number of pancakes, value, quality of the duck skin and quality of plates. Normally does not the duck run out first? there were only six pancakes for half a duck. Pancakes should be cheap enough why were they pancakes so scarce? The duck skin was so hard, it was like chewing on a plastic wrapper which finally broke down after five minutes of terraforming in my mouth. Meat was alright, although isn’t the beauty of this dish in the skin? Their price positioning is not low! it’s more mid-level and I find it very disrespectful of them to use third-world plates. I would understand if it were a $ 10 meal but it was quadruple that. The plastic plate looked like it was chewed on by Godzilla. Very unappetising to say the least. They should have invested in the plates instead of the flashy lift. Conclusion Zero value, I would seriously have had a more satisfying meal at Maccas. Good to have N2 Gelato strategically located next door to comfort my taste buds and overworked jaw. @thesydneynoob

I went to Hong Kong in 2011 and this place is waaaaaaay better than any of the food I had when I was there. Old Towne is conveniently located at the far end of Dixon Street towards the harbour. SERVICE: Everyone one is so prompt and friendly! I’ve been here 4 times now and we’ve never waited for more than 10mins for a table… Even on busy night! QUALITY: You have to order the ROASTEDPORK or DUCKBUNS! They are to die for!!! Everything is absolutely delicious. Pork dumplings, green beans with minced pork, stir-fry noodles, calamari and even their steamed rice is good! VALUE: I would eat here everyday if I was a millionaire! $ 8 for a serving of Pork Buns(2 pieces) is pretty steep for this baller. But It’s definitely worth the value when you’re out with a group of friends and share plates.

This looked really cute from the outside. I’m a sucker for vintage-style décor so I was excited to try it out. We made reservations one evening and it was surprisingly not busy. I was advised to go up to the 2nd floor, which you have to take an elevator to get to.(Make sure you don’t press«3» otherwise you end up at a martial arts class, like my friend did.) Sadly, we were both disappointed with the food. It wasn’t bad per se, but the thing is there are a lot of other Chinese places nearby which serve yummy food for a better price. We ordered buns, dumplings, noodles, and mango pancakes(from what I remember), and while the food was decent, it wasn’t really outstanding, either. Service wasn’t over effusing but got the job done. We were confused if our waiter got our order because he would just walk away without a word after we told him what we wanted, but we got all our orders anyway so I guess he really was paying attention: P

Great décor and food. Also very well priced. You know this place is authentic when 90% of the clientele speaks the Hong Kong Dialect(this place also feels like being on an upmarket restaurant in Hong Kong).
