Can anyone verify if this place has gone downhill or has my tastes changed? I didn’t think the food here was too bad but on a recent return visit, I thought the food was pretty poor. Our seafood congee had bits of dried frozen seafood which was pretty poor while the fried noodles were wayyyy too greasy. This place has been around for ages but on current form it will disappear as well given the high turnover of restaurants on this section of Sussex St?

Finally some decent food at a very reasonable price in Sydney. We had been stuck ‘hiking the tourist trail’ our first few days visiting Sydney; paying far too much for not too great food and drinks. We’ve finally started to figure things out and found this tasty late night eatery in Chinatown. Great congee and wonton soup hit the spot when needed, and they had a reasonably priced wine selection to boot. My only complaint was the bathroom was a but gross and smelled funny. Id definitely go back again!

If you look from the outside you might not think much of this place but actually it has a pretty extensive menu to order from. The inside looks quite good, very simple but does the job. When you sit down and order they will bring you tea and a glass of soy milk, which is excluded from your bill or so I think. I’ve been here a few times, mostly to eat congee but the last time I went which was not so long ago, I ordered congee with Chinese doughnuts and some curry fish balls. The fish balls was good as it was able to soak up some of the curry. The congee tasted quite ok and good enough I think if you are thinking of eating congee here. The best thing to do when eating congee I think, is to dunk the doughnuts in the congee then eat it. Getting doughnuts with congee is quite common in Asia or so I believe. If you want to eat congee and are around the area, you should give this place a try and also you might want to try the other items on the menu if you feel congee isn’t enough. Not many restaurants serve good congee in Sydney but this place does it well enough if you are looking for a late night snack but not as good as some places like Superbowl in my opinion.

This is a good place for cheap & congee(although not as cheap as Superbowl) served with complimentary chinese tea and soybean milk. This place is open quite late so its very handy for city residents who are hungry in the late hours but don’t want to cook anything.
