Even though one of the regular workers there is pretty dense and slow, the food is great. Fresh, nicely portioned, and aesthetically plated. Vibe is clean, relaxed, like an indoor patio with lots of white wood and blue. Totally normal to come eat alone or with people. That’s how comfortable and welcoming this place is. The pastries are moist and hard to pass up when you go to pay the bill. So I usually buy a bunch to share with my office if I go before work.

If you like your coffee super strong, with the aroma of coffee beans wafting from your mug, then this the place to be. The coffees here even come with sultanas, which surprisingly go with coffee quite well. I love good matcha and egg waffles, so upon seeing this dish, I had to have it, even though it was breakfast time. The matcha in the teapot is warm, rich, and oozes out from the pot. The matcha ice cream is also delicious. The only point for improvement is that the ice cream and red bean paste make the egg waffles chewy, and they are better when they’re crunchy.

Having been here a few times already I can give this place a fitting thumbs up for quality of food and choice. The menu is Asian fusion at its best blending Asian food to match the desires of current food trends. The café frequently offers new and exciting options that are an instagramers dream. The waffle series they offer will get lots of attention and even the cups are cute. The service is friendly and they do there best to seat you as quickly as possible. The Coffee is almost at the background but they offer a complete coffee experience allowing you to literally tailor it to your likeing in terms of body and flavour. They have nailed the science of it. The hot chocolate is delicious too and well worth the order. Times I have been here have choosen salads, salmon dishes and to date have left satisfied and fueled for the day. Its located 2 mins from Central station so its easy to get to. Great spot.

Haven located just across Central Station’s Chalmers Street exit is a relatively new café. The menu contains classics but also fusion Asian-Western food. They seem to be a coffee specialist with most of the menu dedicated to drinks. I drink coffee everyday on weekdays so I did not try their customisable coffees on this visit. GENMAICHATEACHICKENBURGER $ 16.5 Just hated it because of the cabbage. The cabbage texture should of given the burger some much needed crunch, but it was soggy and the bitter taste of the cabbage took over the burger. After removing the bitter cabbage, the genmaicha tea sauce was actually tasty; a creamy sauce that would be more fitted for pasta. That’s where the positives end. The chicken was tough and some spots even dry. POTATOLATKES $ 16.5 The next dish was a total flop. Bland. Everything was bland. Even when eating all the elements with piece a of bacon, it was still lackluster. The potato latkes(aka potato cakes) were too thin and unseasoned, it was boiled in oil rather than fried as it had no crunchy bits. One of the eggs was overcooked. Beware of the Surcharge! Surcharges are not the norm in Surry Hills and I was caught out by the 10% «fine» that was in the fine print. The service was quick and efficient but even much better cafes do not charge a Sunday surcharge. The hot chocolate was majorly disappointing. The food is an attempt at fusion that ends up being below average for the area. @thesydneynoob

Didn’t have the food but enjoyed some unique coffee from Costa Rica. The barista I had was very helpful in explaining everything which was likely difficult because I am a coffee novice.

I have been here a few times and have always really enjoyed what I have ordered. My friends however haven’t always loved it so I guess it isn’t for everyone. It is a great place for brunch and coffee and the staff are all really friendly. It does get pretty busy so plan on a bit of a wait at peak times. I loved the soba(or they may have been buckwheat) noodles with mushrooms in an earl grey broth. The mushrooms were some of the best I have ever had. The watermelon salad is also delicious and beautiful. The polenta stacks are amazing.

Coming from San Francisco I have a pretty high bar for coffee. Haven can easily compete for the best coffee I have had. The presentation and tasting notes were spot on, and the coffee quality was top notch. I would highly recommend Haven for any coffee lover. The food was also quite tasty. My only complaint would be the latkes were a bit thin on my order of Latkes and Bacon. Everything else was exceptional, especially the house made yogurt.

Have seen pictures popping up of this place everywhere. Stopped by for a quick breaky after a few sale visits in the area. Place has indoor and outdoor tables located opposite the central station tracks. Ordered the Potato Latkes with bacon and poached eggs $ 15.50. Very light meal but still filling. With my cappuccino i also received some dried raisins to add if i wanted. To be honest it was a first for me having dried fruit in my coffee but it went well. Food came out under 10 mins so it was a nice short & sweet visit.

Absolutely love this place. They don’t just make food, they make art. I mean look at their interior and the ambiance, you couple with the art they place on your table, the experience is simply mind blowing. Def a must visit.

Super cute café near Central Station in Surry Hills. I went here on a Groupon breakfast deal(2 mains and drinks for $ 25!). The restaurant was packed when I arrived at about 9:45am which looked very promising. I had heard really good things from a workmate about their coffee and approach whereby you can customise almost anything with their coffee from acidity to coffee: water ratio, to the aroma. However, without knowing what I like about my coffee yet and no introduction by the waiter to the ways in which the coffee could be customised it was hard to make those decisions about my coffee especially prior to having a coffee so I ended up sticking to the usual flat white. The coffee was definitely good. My companion had a chai tea that came out with a cute timer to let you know when to pour it out. However, the food was a different story. We waited for a very long time for our food watching tables that came in after us get their food before us. I had the potato latkes with bacon. The latkes were thin and crispy but a little too greasy for my liking. There was a generous amount of bacon and two poached eggs which were a little undercooked and left me concerned. By the time we left at 11am the place was half empty which made me think that the majority of their customers, like us, were Groupon users restricted to 8am to 10am hours.

It was cold Sydney spring morning and was looking for a quick breaky near Central station. Just opened up Unilocal and find this place called Haven nearby. I love the hip interiors and the friendly staff. If you are a coffee lover, this is definitely a place to visit! You can request to your preference, t’was so cool!

One of the best coffees I’ve ever had. I will be coming back for the coffee and food next time. Great service as well!

If you’re a coffee snob or simply a hipster, this place is for you. Run by one of the World Barista Championship judges, they will do your coffee however you want it. You could probably ask for it in a funky cup and they will probably accommodate. They also hold cupping sessions, just need to ask when. Their tea game ain’t too shabby either, but it can be a little cumbersome pouring through so many filters. The food here is a funky fusion with fresh ingredients and on the healthier side of things. I ordered the Kimcheese Burger… ha-ha get it? It’s not really a «burger» per se as you can’t really eat it with two hands but with a knife and fork. The kimchee went well with the cheese, and the pork belly was real tender. I would have no qualms ordering this again, but I’d definitely explore other items on their menu. Will be returning.

First time visiting this café today. I ordered the Roasted Pumpkin, which was one of the best I’ve had. Also ordered a Mocha, great as well. I like the vibe of this place and the staff were very friendly. The best part is they can customize your coffee to your request.

By far one of the BEST brunch experiences I’ve had. Loved the atmosphere, the food was spectacular, and the staff was great. Although it’s a little pricey, it was worth every penny. I rate this place a 5 :) Food: 5 SO. GOOD. I ordered the autumn hash, which is braised lamb with celeriac remoulade, pickled cabbage, and poached egg. The lamb was juicy and tender and flavorful, and it went sooo well with the pickled cabbage. There were also some pumpkin sprinkled on the side. Definitely a high quality brunch dish. Drinks: 5 I love how customers have the choice to customize their drinks. You can tweek the aroma, acidity, sweetness, body, and aftertaste of almost any drink. I got a mocha with extra sweetness(mmm :)). My friend ordered tea(Milky oolong), and it was also an amazing experience. There was an elaborate tea set and she could refill her tea up to 6 times. The tea itself was unique and spectacular. Another plus is the latte art. The people who brew the coffee there are well known(award winning barista?!). My friend got a flat white with a perfectly drawn swan on top. :O:O Service: 5+++ LOVE the people there. All of them were friendly and had a sense of humor. Our waiter took his time to chat with us and took a selfie with us. Overall, the good attitude of the staff was contagious and lightened up my mood. Atmosphere: 5 Great set up. Loved the open space and wooden theme of the restaurant. There were also displays of different teas and coffee beans. Misc: 5 I left the restaurant smiling and thinking: what just happened back there? The group of friends I went with all had an amazing time. Highly recommend for everyone to check out!

How utterly disappointing. This place was definitely not my cup of tea. First and foremost, they are ridiculously priced. I ordered the kimcheese burger, which was a whopping $ 22. At that price, I’m looking for exceptional quality and flavour. The taste was quite sub-standard. In addition to the food, the coffee was quite mediocre as well. I don’t think it was badly made, but the beans they use were not to my liking. These guys appear to be relatively popular, so I definitely wish them well — but I certainly won’t be returning any time soon.

Whether you like your coffee extra bold or slightly nutty in flavour, these guys can make the perfect blend for you. Not only is the coffee superb, but the food and customer service are top notch. Some of the dishes we ordered: Pork Belly Kimcheese Burger — It was 10am but it’s never too early for pork belly. The burger comes with a gentle house made kimchee, grated apple, shaved radish and sesame omelette — a combination resulting in a truly tasty meal. Roasted Plum Parfait — A creative twist to your traditional fruit salad, this dish is not only healthy but simply delicious! The sweetness of the coconut sago matched perfectly with the citrus fruits, and the roasted plum on top gave it a special touch. This is a go to dish for anyone looking for a great start to the day. and lastly an epic dessert, the Masfogato– their altered version of the traditional Affogato using frozen marscapone, walnuts, a warm dark chocolate brownie and shot of espresso. I personally would have still preferred ice cream, however this dessert did not disappoint. It melts in your mouth and is the perfect ending to any meal at Haven. This is a unique café experience. The healthy menu, friendly staff and beautiful open venue are a couple of key reasons customers will keep coming back.
