If it looks like a pub, swims like a pub and quacks like a pub then you’d be all like«Woah! It’s a swimming, quaking pub! Run for your lives!!» If you’ve got a keen sense of adventure like me and the thought of a swimming, quacking pub doesn’t put you off, then I think this might just be the place for you. Located at a busy interchange on Bourke and Cleveland you can sit outside and watch the ongoing battle rage on between Sydney’s worst drivers as they try to make it through without dying. It never gets old. With that in mind It’s a great stop off point if you’re heading toward the SCG or Fox Studios serviced by the m20 bus from central. Good place for beers or wines and there’s value to be had in them there Jugs of beer. Decent size smoking area for those of you who simply can’t go another minute without a cigarillo or whatever the cool kids are doing now. The upstairs is available for parties and have been there once, it’s a good venue with it’s own bar. Wasn’t too expensive to rent if I remember correctly. Pool table located at the back bar near a screen. Staff are nice, this place is what it is and not trying to be anything more. A nice clean pub with friendly staff and a really nice seating areas. Trivia nights and cheap meals during the week and a bottle shop attached too. This place has seen an upturn in fortunes as it’s located just outside the lock out area and goes till late so Friday and Saturday Nights are really buzzing with a younger crowd..

Love to relax here with a glass of wine and good old pub food!!! Loud, especially with the traffic. Don’t come for a quiet chat due to the noise.

It might not be your first choice for a Friday or Saturday night venue, but Bar Cleveland is an easy, relaxed spot for afternoon drinks or a mid-week catch-up with mates. It actually opened as the Cleveland Inn in 1912 and is now a heritage-listed hotel. It’s had a few renos over the years but the owners have aimed to keep the old art deco features. There are three different bars within the venue, the front bar and outdoor tables which are good for Cleveland Street people-watching, the back lounge bar which has a big screen for sports games if you’re into that sort of thing, and a cocktail lounge, function area and courtyard upstairs. They’ve got a bunch of events on during the week and great specials like the $ 10 cocktails on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights.

A standard dive bar near Moore Park in Surry Hills, Bar Cleveland is house within a large venue on the corner of Cleveland and Bourke Street. I went for a birthday party and the top floor Cocktail Lounge was rented out. Since it is so spacious, with an outdoor courtyard and dance floor, it seemed like a fine place to host an event. The bartenders were very gracious and made decent drinks. Downstairs, there’s the Front bar, which is large and decorated in the taste of the early 20th century Cleveland Inn. The bar itself is U-shaped, meaning you shouldn’t wait long for your drink, though the bartenders seemed attentive enough to not let that happen. There’s also the Back Lounge bar, which is akin to a sports bar. There are pool tables and a large plasma TV, making it the perfect place to catch a game and a few beers. I’m told Bar Cleveland is open later than other places in Surry Hills, so I’d probably come here once the night starts winding down.

Stopped in on a Friday night before heading somewhere else for a gig. It seemed nice enough. The crowd was mixed and relaxed, there were both beer and wine drinkers, and barstools existed happily alongside soft sofas and loungey chairs. It was quite dark and atmospheric, which I like: I hate over-lit bars at night. There was a pool room with a couple of pokies in back, quite separate from the rest of the bar, though you go through it on your way to the toilet. I only spent an hour or so, and fairly early in the evening, killing time, but it was a perfectly chilled place to do so.
