Walking past Katuk, you would easily miss this little hidden away bar. Heck, it wasn’t until we were passing by on the other side of Chapel street, when we noticed people in the upstairs area. Then we spotted the doorway and stairs leading straight up. Who doesn’t like places off the beaten path? So we crossed and checked it out. The front room is decked out like a library with a high wall bookcase. There is a very tiny balcony, it can fit maybe six people comfortably without bumping too many elbows. A stretched out bar is in the middle and the perfect size for here, and the back has more seating and a small smoking area(Don’t quote me on that part). Looking through their menu, there are plenty of drink choices to pick from. I am one of those people who like watching people make drinks, it can keep me easily entertained for a good while, and the cocktails here are well made and created with time. I had the Spiced Pear Collins, it was served in a high glass coated with cinnamon. It was good, gin and pear is always good for me. The Naked & Famous is a really smokey drink and tastes like a pit barbecue of smoked meats went straight to liquefied version and into a martini glass. The normal prices for cocktails go for about $ 20, but if you come on Wednesdays, they have selected drinks for half price.

Katuk is a great little place to visit for after work drinks. Friday happy hour with $ 10 jugs — cheap cocktails and wine. Bargain. A great cocktail list and an extensive range on the bar. There’s a small smoking section which does provide views to the sport thats on tv sometimes. Also on a Friday night in summer they do a BBQ. The front area of the bar and back hidey hole cushioned area can be reserved if you have an event on.

Great find, tucked away on Chapel Street. Unless you knew Katuk or were specifically looking for it, you would just walk straight past. Walking up the stairs there are various zones to choose from including a tiny outside terrace. Wednesdays offer half price cocktails and $ 5 basics for a mid week catch up, but to be fair I didn’t feel drinks(and there is a great range on offer) were particularly overpriced on the Saturday I went.

Great little bar hidden in Chapel St. A long room with a front seated area, and a back room with a open area and a mezzanine about the stairs stacked with cushions. Drinks were fantastic, and after the happy hour madness you can get what ever you want. There are some fine spirits hidden on their shelves. So if you want to smash out a happy hour bender on Friday evening, or enjoy fine alcohol this place is worth a look. If you like the former then skip happy hour times.

Went here for a private function on a Saturday night, fairly busy with queues out the door(It was Derby Day in Melbourne though). Excellent bar service, with well trained staff. Good music and environment. Plenty of places to perch, with outdoor balcony overseeing Chapel Street.

I first went to Katuk for a drink after a Friday night movie a few months ago. It was a door way on busy Chapel Street, but up those stairs is a very cool cocktail bar. There isn’t too much room for sitting and when it’s busy it is loud as it is tiny. But on a Wednesday night, it is quiet and they do half price cocktails and $ 5 basics making a great place for a mid-week catch up. They have cool ‘cubby house’ like seating too so you can really tear yourself away from reality and sit on the floor among the cushions and get settled in for a long night of Manhattans. Very potent cocktail mixing by a lovely bar tender.
