Beluga Fish & Chippery

We’ve been coming here for years now and you will struggle to find a better fish and chip shop.
The rice bran oil used for frying is changed regularly and the fish is always fresh.
Clean and delicious, this is fish and chips done right.

You cab get cheap (fish and chips of the day for $ 8) or you can get healthy (grilled whitefish or salmon), and a small range of seafood.
Good selection of bottled beer and wine. When they get a rush, they get very slow.

Belvga was my local fish and chip shop, before it opened about three years ago, it was a trek to st kilda for some good ol fish and chips. Seeing that it is the only one servicing South Yarra, it is always always always busy at dinner service.
Pricing is normal of what you’d expect and I always went with their Yarra’s Edge Pack consisting of fish of the day (always seemed to be blue grenadier), chips, two prawn cutlets and a crab stick for about 12 $. Fish, prawns etc is normally beer battered but you can get them grilled for a little surcharge of 50 cents. And the packs can’t be altered but that’s not usually a problem. And they include tartare sauce with those packs in the price. The chips are done alright, not as crispy outside soft fluffy inside the way I like it but they always come out piping hot as they should anyway.
Try the salmon fillet with brown rice, the fish is nicely grilled and it makes a satisfying and healthy dinner.
As it’s Toorak Road, parking can be a nightmare.

Get the Beluga Pack — excellent value for money. If you want it as a healthy option, you can swap your fries for white or brown rice (but the good kind). Their accompanying Greek salad is also fresh and surprisingly good. VERY filling.
Staff isn’t the friendliest, but this is probably because there’s a high volume of customers at peak hours and this is, after all, mostly a take away place.
I would give this four stars for take away or thee stars for the restaurant (which is pretty bare bones).
