Sometimes, a rose is just a rose. But dessert! Dessert is an art, and A La Folie are masters of their craft. This small French patisserie specialises in macarons and petits choux, and have also recently added fruit tarts to their offerings. A «petits choux» is a bite-size pastry with a touch of fondant on top. The macarons are absolute perfection, melting in your mouth. The Paris-trained owner is a solid challenger in the South Yarra patisserie wars. They’ve been open just over a year now, and are clearly doing something very right. I’ve been known to duck into side streets and leap over cars in futile attempts to avoid stopping in while walking past. I’ve witnessed many an injury from Chapel Street pedestrian traffic rubbernecking the irresistible window displays. A La Folie also do specialty cakes, macaron towers and other catering type offerings, although I can’t speak on those from personal experience(yet). Vraiment délicieux!
