Wow again! Year after year Incontro always succeeds to impress. Just when we thought it could not get any better, it does! It ticks all the boxes when it comes to food, service, location and atmosphere. Their piccolo menu is well crafted and gives diners an experience to taste the delicious selection of fine foods that they have to offer. You choose your menu or let the chef choose for you. We go their every year but this year was special as we celebrated our 1st wedding anniversary. We were given a complimentary glass of French champagne and the best table in the restaurant. Staff were gracious and polite and Peter(chef) regularly came out and chatted to customers. I could go on and on so just go there and experience it’s fabulousness for yourself!

I went in company of 4 other ladies. We were greeted by Anna in a very friendly manner even though we were half an hour late. I was immediately impressed by the décor and the magnificent view across the Swan River to the city. The waitress asked if we had been before and as most of us hadn’t she sent out the chef Peter to talk to us. He was most friendly and asked what type of food we liked. After listening to us he made a suggestion that he prepare food for us to share. He got it exactly right. The food was excellent. 2 of the party started with 12 oysters between them. The bottle of wine was $ 65 and the total bill was $ 260 which was a reasonable price. The service was fantastic, the ambience gets 10⁄10 from me.

As is often the case with restaurants that provide stunning views, one is forced to wonder why the food is so average. Are we simply paying for the view(as many realtors like to hypothesis), or do they provide enough of that je né suis quoi which allows for a drop in food standards. Ok, maybe a little harsh. It wasn’t bad per se, but a tad overpriced for the quality of food. I went for dinner and had a salad nicoise which cost me $ 35. For comparisons sake I’ll add that I used to eat a salad nicoise every sunday for brunch in one of the hippest cafes in NYC for half the price. Enough said…

In Contro is kind of flashy, and while the views of the Swan River and city skyline are amazing, the food is interesting and tasty enough, and the interiors are mod and aesthetically pleasing, it just doesn’t quite hit the mark for me. My mum took me for breakfast once and I was a bit underwhelmed for the price we paid. I did notice the chefs have devised a ‘picolo’ menu with lots of tasting tidbits and carafes of wine which sounded suitably European, so perhaps I should return for lunch or dinner some time and update this review. I’m open to that.
