A decent Chinese joint in the heart of Redfern. Their menu is extensive and has everything from chow me in and dumplings to fried rice and roast duck. The prices are good, but not as cheap as you’d expect from a place with their décor. The duck two ways blows a way a pineapple! That being said, the servings are HUGE!!! Their wait times on takeaway vary but can be frustratingly long and their BBQ pork can be overly chewy which makes for a disappointing noodle soup. On the whole though, it’s a great place to grab a meal and the fact many bars like Arcadia and the Bearded Tit allow you to BYO Wah Fungs in while you having drinks.

Bought take out box dinner with fried rice and beef. Cheap yet very good food, taste and quality are good. I’ll definitely go back to this place!

About as no-frills, hole-in-the-wall as you can get. Seriously, folks. It ain’t much to look at. But. BUT. Just like The Transformers, this little restaurant is more than meets the eye. Which, as previously stated, is not a lot. If this feels like I’m labouring the point, you’ll see why when you go. But seriously, stick with it. The food is great and the locals love it, and that should be reason enough, and damn it all, their fried rice is just so freakin’ good. I know, I know, that’s like going to the Louvre and banging on about how great the toilets are, but it’s seriously delicious fried rice you guys.

Wah Fung is our favourite local Chinese restaurant and takeaway, an authentic no-frills eatery complete with the BBQ duck in the window and exotic menu in Chinese and English. My fiancée has food allergies, but she knows we can go there and eat our fill without exotic additives making her sick. The BBQ pork and Sweet and Sour is our favourite, and we always end up stuffing ourselves silly.

This place is a little local gem and offers some really good quality food. It can be a bit hit or miss, depending on what you order, but I have high standards for Chinese food, and generally it’s very good. I find that if you order more towards the«authentic chinese» side of the menu, you will not be disappointed. Anything written up by hand on the wall is excellent. BBQ pork is fabulous and the long beans with mince Hong Kong Style are not to be missed. They do magic with those beans. One of the best versions of this dish in Sydney. The shan tung chicken is amazing, and they do a really good laksa. Special fried rice or Singapore noodles if you’re looking for a cheap, quick meal to take away. Extra points for bringing tea to the table before you ask, and when you order rice, it comes out in a big bucket, as it should.

What you see is what you get. Cheap Chinese food with a massive menue and all the standards you expect from such an establishment. Singapore noodles are top notch. Don’t be put off by the number of cabbies and cops dining here, after all they know good late night eating don’t they?

Cabbies love it. Journos love it. The locals love it. The cops love it. What is not to like about BBQ duck anyway? Alright, depending on what you order, Wah Fung can be greasy, but it’s always fresh and delicious, and you discover all different sorts of flavours in their dishes; they don’t all taste the same. You definitely don’t get an MSG headache. They have a wide variety of dishes on the menu(pigs ears, anyone?), however we keep coming back for our favourites: the duck san choy bow, the steamed chicken, and the BBQ duck. They also do something with beans and mince that is oily but fantastic. Don’t be disheartened if the place looks full, they have a second«secret room» they can probably fit you and your group in.
