I really enjoyed the recent UYE Shiro, and was really impressed by their service and décor. The seating area upstairs meant the UYE group had the section to themselves and is ideal for a group booking. Whilst probably not the best I’ve ever had, I enjoyed the truffle edamame and soft shell crab which came with crunch lotus chips. The tofu however was delicious as was the ‘Ocean’s Five’ sashimi selection. It is pricey if you’re after a casual dine in, so it wouldn’t be my top pick for Japanese in Perth but it is still worth a try. Points also for split billing!

The GTR is excellent. Grilled/Torched/Raw. The dish you must try when you are there. I have to say… the torched version has a balance of freshness at the same time gives your taste buds a sensational scorched buzz. I can eat that all.day.long.

According to the other Unilocalers I dined here with at a recent CMYE, EVERYTHING on the menu was worth trying. Well, that certainly made my dinner choices extremely hard! Shiro Izakaya is a two story restaurant nestled amongst the grounds of Central Park. Our table of 11 was placed upstairs with no other diners around and we were attentively looked after by our server. The service was very friendly, prompt and a massive bonus was being able to split bill. Now that rarely happens these days! I shared a bottle of reasonably priced malbec with fellow Unilocalers(really needed that red wine!) to kickstart proceedings. Once the wine selection was made it was on to the food. I opted for the new style edamame with steam sake, truffle oil and green tea sea salt. It was deliciously oily, and the edamame was extremely fresh. Next up was the Tuna Tataki. This was my favourite dish on the night. It was presented beautifully, with the tuna seared slightly on the outside. Highly recommended. Last but not least before I became way too full was the soft shell crab, one of Shiro’s signature dishes. The salad had chunks of watermelon, lotus chips, with a balsamic reduction and wasabi soy sauce. I found the balsamic reduction and wasabi soy sauce a little too heavy or rich for the dish. The batter for the soft shell crab was nice and light and the chunks of watermelon added a freshness to the dish. It isn’t the best soft shell crab dish I have tasted but it was certainly far from the worst. I didn’t have room for dessert but the ones I saw other Unilocalers trying, certainly looked appetizing.

This place is hidden behind an office building. It looks really fancy and the service is awesome. I had the edamame, tempura vegetables and grilled snapper. The edamame was delicious but the grilled snapper was pretty average — however they have an expansive menu and a nice wine list. They even do split bill. Though I didn’t try the tempura ice cream — it did look very interesting.

Finally headed to Shiro last night after seeing countless mouthwatering photos and reviews from Unilocalers — Claire and Nathan especially seem to rate it highly. That’s enough of an endorsement for me. I planned a catch up dinner with friends for a Wednesday night. The restaurant’s fit-out is very modern and minimalist, it reminds me of a lot of bars and restaurants in Vegas. The menu isn’t huge, but everything that I sampled from the menu was great. The crispy popcorn prawns were topped with a moreish spicy mayo. The scallop sashimi was particularly impressive, with so much flavour packed into a little slice of scallop! All the food is relatively light so you can definitely get an entrée, main and dessert. They seem to really shine at making desserts. The service is excellent and this restaurant is perfect for private functions as they have an area upstairs that you can have to yourself. Overall I don’t think it tops Ha Lu as my number one Japanese restaurant in Perth, but its good.

I really enjoyed the food here, it was beautifully presented, nice and hot and full of great flavours. For entrée I was kind of wanting sashimi but it was so cold we opted for hot entrees. We had chicken kara-age, really tender and juicy with a gorgeous tasty coating that came with 3 home made dipping sauces which were all delicious good size portion too! We also had the tempura prawns and vegies, they came out steaming hot, beautifully presented with an amazingly light crispy batter For mains we had the caramel miso pork belly which was cooked to perfection and absolutely bursting with flavour, I’d definitely have this again, it was the star of the meal. We really wanted the tooth fish but they didn’t have it… was a bit devo about that as we both love tooth fish, so we opted for the snapper which was also really nice. The staff member who served us was really nice and friendly, he didn’t rush us at all and even asked if we wanted a break between course, I think his name was Suguru(not sure if that’s how it should be spelt but that’s what it sounded like) The restaurants itself is really nice, very clean with different style of seating available and a beautiful view over Central Park. My only negative is that is was way too cold, as soon as we walked in(on a cold night) we were expecting for it to feel warm as it looks quite cosy but it was freezing, we sat with our coats on for most of the evening as did other diners, this has happened in a few restaurants which always surprises me that none of the staff notice and crank the heat up a bit… shame because we really liked everything else. I will return to this restaurant as there was lots on the menu I still want to try and overall really enjoyed it but maybe in the warmer months when it’s not so cold.

The food here never fail to impress here. The soft shell crab(huge serve– enough for 3 – 4) was a delight being a crab fanatic. Sashimis are nice and fresh probably the best I’ve tried so far in perth. A huge variety of sake was also on shelf. This restaurant is one of those ones that you can keep going and still not get bored of it. Perfect for a catch up with a few mates or a romantic dinner. Does get a tad noisy but still quiet enough for a decent yawn. It’s a goto restaurant if you are in need of some really good top notch Japanese delights. Great work guys!

This is a beautiful venue which is perfect for casual fine dining, especially during the day when the light streams in through the wide window fixtures. The service is consistently great and I love the extensive sake and cocktail menu. Interestingly enough, Shiro is also home to Perth’s first Ramen Burger, which is available from their takeaway kiosk, Shiro Express. When I tried the Tasting Menu($ 95 pp) there were some inconsistencies and I’d be more inclined to dine ala carte in future, with the exception of their impressive sounding Omakasae degusation($ 150 pp) Must try dishes of the Tasting Menu($ 90 pp — dishes can be found off the Ala Carte Menu) New Style Edamame with Truffle Oil — Grilled Edamame with Steam Sake, served with Truffle Oil and Green Tea Sea Salt. Snapper, Fish Roe, Wasabi Soy and Diced Dashi Jelly, with Edamame, Herbs and Wasabi Ponzu Sauce. Crispy Fried Soft Shell Crab with Watermelon, Baby Spinach, Lotus Chips with Balsamic Reduction and Wasbai Soy Sauce. Torched Salmon Nigiri with Mayo, Teriyaki Sauce, Chives and Fish Roe. Green Tea and Black Sesame Ice Cream

This place feels like a Sushi restaurant on 5th Ave, New York and aptly so as it is overlooking Perth’s own Central Park. The food, the décor, the service, the style. Come and enjoy’s Perth’s finest. A little on the pricey side but nothing that will break the bank. Even better if the company’s paying. In any account they creations are like little masterpieces that are almost too arty to eat.

The fusion japanese food isnt too bad but i believe its too expensive than others. I would say it isnt value for money. I like the concept though.

Great choice for izakaya but not unfortunately food quality at Shiro Izakaya(SI) isn’t consistent. I always get the miso toothfish because the flavor is amazing however, the last two times i’ve gotten the dish has been a disappointment. Slightly overcooked but still great flavors. Please pay attention dear kitchen staff because I LOVE your miso toothfish. SI has finally updated the menu to remove the squid dish. It was very aggravating, getting all excited by reading about the squid dish and remembering that it’s no longer offered(side note — didn’t get to try it ever). SI also removed the sushi roll options. Don’t see any new menu options but i’ll have to peer the menu closer the next time. Scallop and prawn dish is average, pork belly is wonderfully sweet and tasty but woefully small. Wagyu beef is decent but not a dish I would order again. The popcorn shrimp is a must order. Only beef is why must the kitchen chop the shrimps into tiny itty-bitty pieces?! Ranting aside please do yourself a favour and order this dish. Oceans 5(sashimi) is again, inconsistent. I’ve had some icky sinewy sashimi pieces(esp the tuna) and some wonderfully fresh sashimi. Side note: SI offers assortment of sushi rolls for lunch. If you’re nearby after 2 pm the sushi rolls are discounted. YAY!

I admit that being frequent diners out it was pleasant being recognised from Jacksons and 1907 by some of the staff, I am sure that made a much warmer welcome than what we might otherwise have received. Having been here a few times now we know that the sashimi is the best place to start — my favourite in Perth hands down at the moment! Moving on from there I have tried many of the cold, fried, grilled and speciality dishes and so far they have all been of great quality, so much so in fact I have tried and enjoyed dishes I would typically avoid. The atmosphere is really groovy — and even when the restaurant fills up the noise level seems to allow for casual conversation. The staff are efficient and provide good service though a few times the miss time deliveries of food & drinks… I recommend mixing things up a little and choosing so comfortable dishes and getting the staff to help you select a couple of new ones as there is the possibility of discovering a new favourite dish here, at least that is what I found.

One of the best sushi places in Perth! So glad to have found this restaurant as I have been searching for a good japanese place to eat over the years. The atmosphere inside and out of the restaurant is really high class which gives you a satisfied feeling when you enter into the restaurant.

Sumptuous, Elegant and tasty to boot. I was lucky enough to join my wife and friend for a dinner that was more than expected and quite filling. We started the dinner with some yakitori, we had one order of each except the beef. It would have been hard for me to pick a favorite but I’ll try… prawn, salmon, chicken, vegetables. Note that just because vegetables are last that does not mean they were bad, I’m just a carnivore. The group also enjoyed some beer and sake. They have quite a selection of sake that delighted my wife but since it was a week night we had to stop at two different tastings, which were both excellent and served cold. Finally for dinner, our guest had the Grilled snapper, my wife the Ocean’s 5(sashimi platter), and I the Miso toothfish. The Ocean’s 5 platter had quite the layout with roughly three pieces of each fish to try. The only bummer about the platter was that they had no tuna so my wife doubled up on the yellow tail, though I’m sure she actually liked that better. Our guest loved the Grilled snapper and enjoyed the second tasting of sake as well. As for my Miso toothfish… I don’t know what type of fish it is but it was delicious! Usually restaurants make this dish with black cod/gindara/butterfish(not sure what it is called here) which is quite an oily fish but the use of toothfish did not deter from the excellent preparation of this dish. I may have a new favorite. We all had a side bowl of rice which did not come with the meal, other than that the total bill was less than I expected. A nice surprise considering how expensive it is to eat out in Perth. Nice décor, nice views, great food and great service. The only dinks being the lack of tuna and my favorite beers ;) We will be back, hopefully soon.

In the heart of Perth CBD, u’ll find this perfectly situated Japanese restaurant Shiro Izakaya over looking the beautiful Central Park. Offering classy fusion Japanese food. Definitely pricey but don’t forget it’s classy & exquisite :) Extremely friendly staff that comes for an occasional chat to be sure food is satisfying. Up the stairs to the bathroom & more dining area or maybe a small private function? My overall experience was a wonderful one. If anyone ask, I would definitely recommend this place highly. 2 Thumbs up.

Shiro is my favourite Japanese restaurant in Perth. Situated at Central Park, its a great place to stop in after work. They have a good range of Sake’s and make some great Sake Cocktails. My favourite is the Saketini. It is better if you share the food with the table. My recommendations are: For the sashimi lover, the Oceans 5 is a must. Popcorn shrimp is fresh and spicy. Prawn Yakitori with Spicy Sauce. Wagyu Beef with sauteed japanese mushrooms And of course to finish: Banana Maki with a glass of plum wine. They do some really nice specials as well so make sure you find out what they are before you order.

Really great food, so many flavours that compliment each other so well. The Décor’ is modern and flash, the place looks good, the prices match though. The staff are very friendly, knowledgable and informative, pretty much give you a run down of each dish as they are serving it which was great. I would certainly recommend this place and dine here again.
