Lucky Dips, how cool is that!!! I will definitely buy one of these next time! It’s a book covered in brown paper with a brief intro on the front. If you’ve already read the book they are happy to exchange it for you. I’m so impressed with the two staff members on that day, so cheerful and one went out of her way to recommend and help me find some great books. She was also training a new staff member, answering the phone and serving other customers. This place gave off such a great vibe, I can’t wait to go back

I love the Elizabeth’s bookstores! I love most bookstores, especially seeing as they’re becoming such a rarity these days. This store has a lot of character with a range of book genres ranging from science to the arts. Give yourself time to wander through and I’m sure you’ll buy something different than what you had in mind. I think that’s one of the things I like about this store, it really opens your mind up to books you never knew or thought of before walking through their doors. I love the idea of their book lucky-dip, just pick a book wrapped in brown paper and see what you’ve bought when you get home.

Elizabeth’s has an old-world charm, and looks as though it has been a fixture of Hay Street since the turn of the 20th century. In actual fact, it hasn’t — while Elizabeth’s is an established chain, they’re younger than they appear. There can be some very interesting books at Elizabeth’s, although some of their books are over-priced. For instance, a lot of their mainstream books can be bought online for cheaper. However, they do have antique and unique books that are well worth a read, as well as a decent selection of old comics. For those wanting to trade in unwanted books — Elizabeth’s tends to be very selective in what books they want. Plus, they tend to be stingy towards payment for books.

This place is a labyrinth of new and pre-loved books. There is an amazing variety that will hold your concentration prisoner to the store– from old leather bound classics to books on cross-dressing, children’s, cooking, comics and more. You can easily spend hours filtering through the shelves and most of the books are very affordable. They buy for cash books and comics. My favourite section is the art book corner and customers are more than welcome to flick through the books and peruse. The staff even put notes of recommendation on books of interest if you are lost and don’t know where to start looking in the store.

I love books, I was always the loser kid in school that read books during lunch time or actually enjoyed library class. Bookstores consume a lot of my time, for me I can’t just go in for a quick look, I go in and look at almost every single book. It is time consuming, but I won’t go in a book store unless I know that I have at least half an hour. This bookshop is one of my favourites. For me second hand books are even better than new books, they have that delicious old smell, the yellow stained pages and they are just all round loved. I like to picture the people, or person who has read this book prior to myself. It really is a magical shop, full of some amazing books.

I’ve been a fan of Elizabeth’s since discovering it in Pitt Street, Sydney a decade ago. When I learned that the woman behind the name was a Perth girl, I was even happier, being the patriotic Perth-born-and-bred kid that I am. For me Elizabeth’s is great for buying and selling. I shop here whenever I’m looking for a one-of-a-kind book — new or old — for friends that love literature. I’ve bought gorgeous coffee table tomes here, and the tiniest of Dr Seuss books. I tend to do a bit of selling to, since I go through books like crazy. And Elizabeth’s give a fairly good amount of credit on books. So long as your recycled literature is not overly thumbed-through and if you’ve been clever enough not to dog-ear the pages, you’ll get a good couple of bucks per title. Keep up the good work ‘Liz!

I’ve never walked past this place without going in which says something considering I live around the corner. What I love most about Elizabeth’s Bookshop is the variety of rare or out-of-print books they have on offer. After looking for an original«Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas», I was over the moon when I wandered in and saw the yellow cover staring back at me from a display stand! I bought it immediately! I was so happy!!!

I am fond of a good book shop. My room could basically double as a book shop. And as far as they go, Elizabeth’s has that real world charm that is intoxicating to those of us who are way too nostalgic for our own good. The floors that creak as patrons rummage through pre-loved books, thinking about what sort of people read these books before them. Did someone in 18th century Vienna read this as they were pondering whether the earth was in fact round or flat(please note all historical references are made up and I in fact have not researched whether 18th century Viennans would have known the earth is in fact round)? What was my point? Oh right, Elizabeth’s. If you have an hour or two to spare and you find yourself on Hay Street, please do wander in because you will walk out with a new friend(yes, books are my friends. what of it?). Christmas presents, birthdays, weddings, anniversaries, letting someone know you loathe and despise them. Elizabeth’s has every occasion covered.
