While every little girl dreams of a ludicrous, princess-level ball, I’m not entirely sure if indulging that wish on the gratuitous, hyper expensive level this store offers is particularly healthy. A school ball can be an indulgent affair on a much smaller budget and encouraging sixteen year olds to spend impossible amounts of money on it seems to me to encourage a strange message. If you’re dead set on spending an insane amount of money on your daughters’ dress for the night, she’ll probably want to come here. While that’s not such a bad thing, as they do have a policy to not sell two identical dresses for each schools’ ball, the dresses here are fairly uniform in terms of the kinds of fabrics and styles they use and you may be better off going elsewhere. Seriously, ludicrously expensive.

This store has an exclusivity that dares you to confront it. I have never seen any Dana Mathers designs before so when I saw this shop my eyes lit up! With a slogan on the front stating that any girls dress would be exclusive to her«prom»(how American) or it was free I thought this is a one of a kind, kind of place. With the eaborate displays and the jewellery displayed on the centre table I was surprised that there wasn’t a cover charge~ then I saw the price tags and revised this thought. The girls behind the counter were disinterested, maybe they have been conditioned to only tend to 16 year old divas and their rich daddies? Either way, I entertained myself with the dresses.. . all of which looked like a sequenced explosion of glammer and gitz. I found the visual impact quite overwhelming and imagined that this is surey the entire collection from the Sydney Mardi Gras floats! The dresses are spectacular, but a bit too attention seeking and expensive for me.(How does one justify $ 600 for one dress? Outrageous!) I’m glad I briefly explored the land of the image concious, where your dream gowns become a reality and you can be «princess of prestige» for a night, but Dana Mathers– you are not my style and tragically, the wedding is over!

I’ve been to Dana Mathers to look for a dress for a few different events but there is never anything that catches my eye. I really love some of the designs, they are risky and bold but there is really nothing I feel I can grab and hold on to. Her designs are for a younger, edgier, maybe more flirtatious demographic. My style has a more layered appeal. I rely on an intertwining of bold pieces for my outfits and I find her bright pink short front/long back dresses much to outrageous to blend with any of my other clothes. But aesthetically, I think she has a real understanding of what most people want. Her dresses are priced according to what you’re actually getting but I do believe you can find some nicer pieces for a better price. But that’s my personal opinion. She has perfect designs for any young girls looking for a ball dress and the winding staircase right outside the store gives it an even more glamorous appeal.
