R M Williams

RM Williams has some dubious styles, and can make someone look like an outback hick. On the other hand, if you are careful with matching hats and shirts, you can give off a cool, outlaw vibe.
Some of the their coats makes it seem like you skinned your own cow, then cut some holes to make it wearable, but no matter the style, their coats are high quality — they are water-​proof and warm. Their hats are also of a high quality, and are designed to take a battering.
If you are looking for utilitarian clothing, RM Williams has them in spades.

RM Williams is a legend of Australian retailers. On the East Coast like Sydney and Melbourne they have shops everywhere. In Perth this is the only one I have seen in recent times.
A lot of their clothes and accessories are the upmarket Australian country type, with lots of plaid and checked shirts and work boots, but too fancy to actually work whilst working. They also have a great range of trousers and accessories for men and women, but they are definitely on the higher side of things.
I am clearly not in the target market for this store. But if you have to find a gift for someone who loves this kind of stuff RM Williams should be your first stop.

RM Williams is an Australia institution, but it never really caught on in Perth. In Sydney and Melbourne they have heaps of their stores throughout the city. In Perth we have a couple of them and most people don’t even know where they are.
RM Williams actually do clothes for both men and women. It is style is very rural. Think Australia cowboys and cowgirls. With lots of plaid, Akubra style hats and boots. Their style would suit the more mature set. They also do a range of car mats and accessories, watches and bags.

Though RM Williams is a chain store, they don’t have a lot of locations in Perth. They specialise in the kind of threads you might wear if you were a cattle station owner or a rural guy looking for some classy casualwear; decent trousers, shoes, wide-​brimmed hats and polo shirts. It’s trickier to buy for these kinds of threads and wear them without looking either as though you have no idea whatsoever of how to dress yourself (avoid clashing patterns) or as though your wife buys everything for you (baby pink and powder blue challenging colours for a man to pull off). The staff are helpful and unlikely to lie to you about what looks good and so long as you keep those two rules in mind, it’s easy to walk out of here with some nice new threads. While it’s not cheap, the prices they charge are fairly standard for decent menswear these days. I particularly like their range of shoes and hats, as I need pretty sturdy boots to get around in but like them to still look presentable. Worth a visit.
